A massive commission for
solidstate, who needed nine different characters to be designed and brought to life :) Been working on this one all month, and while I don't know much about those depicted, I believe they were all genetically engineered experiments who managed to escape and together became a band of mercenaries - bonus points if you can guess who they decided to base themselves on ;) Lots of challenges to this commission, aside from easily being the biggest single project I've worked on thus far - suffice it to say, had to look up lots of references for weapons and dog breeds :b

The mutt with the big chaingun? Yeah, I specifically designed his head just a tiny bit on the small side, to contrast with his big body, and because the same "small head big body" concept was used in the Heavy's original design: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/imag.....50px-Heavy.png - so even if he doesn't literally look alike, he has similar body shapes :)
I had a friend who was real into Team Fortress around 2 years ago. She introduced me to all of them, though I couldn't possibly name them all. The one that really helped make it identifiable was the Medic (because a scientist type guy among a bunch of combat dudes) and the Heavy.. then I noticed the Spy. And I was like.. wait... I was on Skype with my boyfriend and we were both just discussing the details before trying to think of who they were... TF2 had crossed his mind as well, but he wasn't completely sure. He didn't play either, but he games more than me. So now it's all... self attributed cool points for me. x3 Really love your collie and Chinese crested. I didn't know borders could look so darn sophisticated.
well, the first thing that cought my attention was "the heavy" and his minigun, i though "oooh, he looks just like heavy weapons guy form TF, oh and look over there is a pyro! i wonder.... yes, engineer too!!" and then it all became clear to me even before i read the text below.
Hah, I wouldn't know - I don't know a thing about guns, but I hope it's not terribly obvious in the art :b I would actually guess it WOULD be bigger, as the Heavy is an abnormally large fellow, and this is a futuristic world we're talking about. I believe the idea is these characters are living in a future sci-fi-esque world, but decided to base themselves off TF2 characters who, to them, are likely charmingly old-fashioned. So maybe they custom built a retro-chaingun - I imagine it wouldn't be to normal specs :b
Thanks for everything Jen! I really love how this turned out.
I still need to write a little background on them and post the individual pics too. It might be this weekend with work and such.
Like Jen said, in my little universe they were an illegal genetic experiment to create soldiers who rebelled and freed themselves. They modeled their little band after heroes from the past they discovered in training simulations.

You're super welcome!
Y'know, I was browsing through your gallery, and I appreciate the effort you seem to have put into your character and world-building, particularly designing races and cultures. It can be hard work, especially to come up with something that feels a lot more real than "Xargs are super tough and can kill anything and only respect the strong!" :b Some people just don't bother with the details or plausibility, but I think it's really what makes the difference. So keep it up :)
I'll keep an eye out for when you post the bios of the characters! And, oh, while it's a super minor detail, maybe it's worth noting - the belt buckle on the Sniper's belt was supposed to be reminiscent to the cowboy feel of the original Sniper, but rather than just putting a typical cattle skull on it, I put a dog skull with two arrows crossed behind it. I was just thinking, "What sort of belt buckle would a dog sniper have based on a cowboy sniper? :V" and thought it looked kinda cool, even if it probably wouldn't get noticed, but maybe it'll help inspire a legitimately neat character trait or something :)
Also, my fiance thinks perhaps the doctor could use some more details to make him look more like a field medic than just some doctor - put a red cross band on his arm, give him first aid kits or something. Up to you obviously, but let me know if you'd like anything tweaked :)

I like making those little details and I'm glad someone reads it.
Yep, that's a neat little detail on Sniper-dog. (I still don't have a name for him yet!)
Future hubby is probably right about medic. I missed that but the iconic armband would be good. I kind of envision him as part doctor and part mad scientist. :D

I'm a big fan of world-building, so I appreciate the character flavour, stuff that isn't just "this is what makes them badass/feared/respected", y'know?
Heh, okay, I can do that :) Did you want me to do it as, like, an actual band wrapped around his arm? Or just as a pattern printed on his coat?

Oh god, I think I just fell head over heels in love with you. (In, I hasten to add, an entirely platonic way, unless you're better at fixing household appliances than my husband, which nobody is.)
This is just so totally insanely awesome that I wriggle in helpless puppyish glee. :)

I finally posted this with a description of the group! I'll be posting the individual members later.
