Just a little rough reference for a roleplay on Tapestries.
Despite the lakes, rivers and forests marked on the map, the whole region really constitutes a desert as the annual rainfall is generally abysmal throughout Tessiel
Glowmed - One time seat of a kingdom spanning all of Tessiel north of the Tes and Ahora rivers, Glowmed is still a powerful citystate and trading center, and still holds claim to Pervanni and pretty much all the arable land along the Pelvanni river up to the edge of the marshlands at Migsa. Current population, ~50,000 (50% Jackal, 30% assorted felines (Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Caracal), and 20% others (Mostly avians and humanoids from the Yarkori Wastes, and aquatics from the Seraph Sea)). Strong but aging King Tautetphis (jackal) rules, while his heirs Seph and Tosaj compete viciously for their father's favor. Princesses Kanu, Siela and Vashy focus on the people and pretty much run the state in the meantime.
Feztan A protectorate long since become wholly independant of Glowmed, ruled by the lion satrap, Maraff. Feztan's population of 35,000 is almost wholly feline, with the majority being lions, though it swells to nearly twice that during the trading seasons when desert nomads and caravans flock to the city to 'summer over'. Despite being a trade mecca, the majority of Feztan's wealth comes from diamond and sapphire rich mines in the hilly ranges a few days travel northwest of the city.
Hilvex More a citystate than a kingdom, the Republic of Hilvex contains equal parts of just about every race imaginable, bringing in pearls and fish from the Djinn Mist Sea, rare woods from Skrum Forest, and a wide range of foodstuffs farmed from the relatively fertile soil year round. Hilvex city proper has a population of some 30,000 souls, though the outlying urban hamlets and villages easily treble this number. The current senate has elected a raven, Yexxan, their president. Popular with the demos, Yexxan's position is likely going to be short lived as his ultra-liberal politics unpopular with the rest of the senate.
Kharakul Despite the name, and the fact that the city's population of 25,000 is 80% Caracals, the king of this lakeside realm is Seldal, a Tiger who's family has been in power for over two centuries, after a bloody coup which rooted out and exterminated all of the prior regime's family members. It took a century and several uprisings before the status quo was achieved, and there are still rumors and popular mythologies regarding a 'blood heir to family Kharakul' who will return one day and retake his rightful place on the throne.
Dorone Farming town, 5000 (80% Fennecs, 15% Dholes).
Abrosh Mining town, 2000 (50% Sandcats, 30% assorted mustelids (Honeybadgers, Weasels, Skunks)
Terephi Farming, mining town, 2000 (50% assorted Avians, 40% assorted Reptiles)
Quelisia Trade town, 5000 (30% Leonine, 20% Hyena). Note: Quelisia is also known as the city of vice. Sultan Rosh Kefaldi (Hyena) has legalized drug and slave trade within his tiny kingdom, and once every season a one week slave faire is opened, quadrupaling the city's population for. While most of the cities in Tessiel outlaw slave -trade-, only Hilvex outlaws slavery outright (though one might argue that their inheritable indentured servitude laws come to the same thing).
Riverton Known for its wineries, breweries and cheeses, Riverton's population mix of 3000 breaks down into 40% Otters, 25% Wolves, and 15% Cheetahs.
Umash Little more than a humanoid trading outpost, Umash's 2000 inhabitants are comprised of an ever shifting population of orcs, goblins, trolls, kobolds, and gnolls. More 'civilized' than their mountain and desert kin, this motley group raids non-humanoid villages too small to note on the map, sells slaves at Riverton, and does brisk precious metals trade from the mountains down to Kharakul, with whose ruler, they seem to have an understanding.
Sinkul Keep is an anomaly, a holdout of the ancient Tessiel Kingdom, and still answers to the king of Glowmed. Despite its bleak environs, extensive wells and oasis in the immediate area provide enough food for the butte fortress to host a population of 5,000 soldiers, farmers, and other workers and their families (total population of 10,000, 90% Jackal).
Migsa, Vaksesh and Draszh are ruined cities from the prior rulers of Tessiel, the assorted Insectile Races, referred to as simply 'The Ancients' by the other races of Tessiel. Its been over a millenia since their peoples dissappeared in fire, war, famine, and disease that came with the onset of the sea peoples - Mammals, Avians and reptiles, from beyond the Seraph Sea. Tessiel was once the Land of the Scarab, and will never forget its deceased, some desert tribes say sleeping, Kings.
