like my art, my model building is based on wouldbe shouldbe couldbe/alternative/alien. the gauge represented is 30"=2.5'=760mm. the scale is 1/4"=1' or 1/48th.
the motive power and most of the passenger stock and some of the freight stock are of my own designs, just as if i were designing for the real world, which in a sense, i am, designing for the 'real' alternative world inside my head. one based, though not yet obvously in my modeling, other then, you may not the abscense of vehicular roadways, on living and engineering infrastructure, to be in closer and more sustanable harmony, with the natural environment on which all life utterly depends.
similar prototypes do exist, and did so more abundantly up until quite recently, in eastern europe and other odder little corners of the world. thought there are no exact prototypes for my specific passenger stock. my motive power shell is based loosely on design considerations which can be seen in a number of narrow gauge prototypes of similar gauge and proportions. the henshel, the tu2-4 series, even zillertal bahn's newer power, though that is of much broader gauge though still narrower then standard.
power and stock are limited to 28 prototype feet in length due to clearance and curvature limitations. also an overall width of 7 feet or less, for the same reason. there are no vertical clearance limitations on this line, however i have attempted to maintain a maximum vehicle hight no greater then neccessary, thus to be able to opporate at reasonable speeds given the gauge of track and curvature requirements.
the current motive power is based on a fairly conventional sort of diesel electric propulsion. future motive power will however, be built to a solar/storage propulsion design.
passenger operation is push-pull do to lack of space for turning arrangemets, though there are runnaround sidings near each end of the line for freight operation.
there are a number of on line freight customers, in addition to the industrial yard area shown, and a team track at sutcliff. construction has yet to begin on the perminent station and related developments at wadsworth, but there is a platform in place with temporary shelters allowing passengers services to have commenced and continue during construction. the passenger facility at sutclif is essentially complete, though further development in the area remains to be constructed.

still a small fraction of what there will be, depending on how long i get to live where i am and continue working on it. maybe the rest of my life, maybe not. i don't own the house, but as long as i am here and alive and i can, i'll keep building on it. quite a bit more has been built just in the time since these were taken.
(The sound of Tired diesels straining up the loop at Tehachapi echoes in my mind.) My model building buddy Michael also enjoys working in 1/48th scale. I've gotten to the point where I don't feel comfortable working on anything smaller than "I" or "Garden Scale" now due to my weakened eyesight. I really like the fact that you can use your 3-D printed characters and creatures on your layout. Kinda like a Dream within a dream, coming out into the real world.
