[PHOTO] NS-8100 Nickle Plate Road 03 - Creighton, PA
I stole a glimpse of this Norfolk Southern Heritage Unit, NS 8100, commemorating the Nickle Plate Road while laying over in the Etna Yard on my way home from work today. (Feb. 19, 2014)
I raced home but missed it going through town. So I hop-scotched about 10 miles up the Allegheny River to Creighton, PA where I took these shots with my Canon 300D and new Cannon EFS 18-135IS lens.
I turned and took a burst of photos as NS 8100 and 8088 continued up the line. This shot gives good detail of the paint scheme and "Nickel Plate Road" is legible. NS8100 is an ES44AC model locomotive.

This is the first one that I've seen up close. I caught the Monongahela on the line west of Pittsburgh, but I was like three football fields away, riding in a car.
I must say I'm not as familiar with the original paint schemes to know the difference, but talking with other Railfans, rabid Railfans I should add, they concur with your thoughts on the NS Heritage Units.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the photos.
