Heheh, my head cannon is Blueblood only acted that poorly at the Gala because he gets girls fawning over him all the time and wanted to scare off any suitors at the royal family's least favorite party. Still probably embarrassed the heck out of his auntie so this would make a good punishment for her "favorite nephew" X3

My form of headcannon has Vladmir Blueblood here being the governor of Canterlot and is in such a position of power due to his ancestry; namely him being a descendant of Lord Cobalt (the elder brother to Princess Platinum, who tried to reassert the old governing system with Unicorns at the top and every other tribe beneAth him alone. This devolved into a near-war if not for the Alicorn Monks intervening and setting up the modern equestrian government we know of today). Living in perpetual shame of his ancestors' actions in almost destroying their home, Vladmir uses tactics of arrogance and self-centeredness to distance himself from power-hungry Noble suitors that are seeking him for his power in an attempt to gain control beyond "The Priestesses" (Celestia and Lunas' official title, with "Princess" merely being a mispronounciation that simply stuck over the centuries)

Since the Grand Galloping Gala is apparently 'Nobility Only', Chances are he probably thought that Rarity was yet another one of these Suitors sent to entrance him for his power
