No, you really don't dear. This is extremely dangerous to a ferret. They would be suffocating and asking for help and yes, they would die if this were to happen. I used to laugh at the silliness and cuteness of this myself at a picture I saw but then I saw how many people who were avid ferret owners that cried out animal abuse and after a little research, sure enough, this is very very dangerous to the dooks. Please don't do this to your ferret.
Ferrets won't sufficate like this, if their head fits, they fit, but msot domestic ferrets are pudgy dooks and can't fit all the way through. It is a good idea to remove them from the tube but they won't just fall over dead from it. That said, giving them a cardboard tube and not supervising them is ill advised, they aren't rodents, they don't nibble the tubes apart, they tear parts off and can choke on it or get it stuck in the digestive tract.
So, this is cute, and while you are wrong on suffocation (unless it's a really fat ferret), I can agree cardboard tubes are something dangerous to them if not careful.

I want to be a ferret owner someday so I worry about these things. Considering the crazy outcry I heard from someone who took a picture like this, naturally I went around to research a bit and it can be dangerous so you can understand my worry. I suppose as stated below if it has a cut so they can easily squeeze out or just keeping the carpet sharks under your watch (because you don't want to leave them unattended) should be enough, yes?
Yeah, many pet owners will treat everything as some greater threat to the little dooks. This image isn't inherently dangerous, ferrets are very flexy wiggly fuzzy snakes with cute little paws. They are fine like this, but ferrets will chew and gnaw on many things, so you need to keep close watch to them and set up a ferret-proof zone if you intend to leave them alone.
Many people will set up a special room with nothing in it that ferrets can chew on, like electrical cords or things like boxes and paper. In most cases they put a metal fence around the ferret cage so they are confined to a small easy to control area. If you intend to get a ferret, I have two things to recommend, first, invest in Ferrets fir Dummies, it's a great reference, and even has recipes in it for when your ferret is ill and all sorts of care tips. It's a collection of advice from many ferret owners and they will tell you what is and isn't safe to do, like don't leave a ferret in a bath tub if it has more than an inch or two of water, they will get exhausted and speed bump, their head going under the water and they could drown.
The Second thing, buy a ferret from a private breeder, don't buy a ferret from a pet store, check their ears, if there is two little black dots, it comes from a ferret farm, which is just like a puppy or kitten farm, animals kept to breed and pop babies out that are then often taken from their mothers before they are ready and are thrown into cages in a pet store where they stay till some one decides to buy them. Except ferret farms are much worse, and aren't illegal like puppy or kitten farms are, like at a ferret farm when they are de-glanded, their anal spray glands removed, which is fine, they don't actually need those, but often the farms spay and neuter the ferrets before they are sexually mature, resulting in them having a stunted mental and physical growth as well as increases of health issues, and these practices are allowed since ferrets aren't a dog or a cat.

Thanks so much for all that info! I definitely planned on getting research books and whatnot before getting a pet I had no idea about. I did that once with a lizard (more like she found us, hanging on our bug net after a breeder moved out a couple weeks before which means she likely escaped him) and I struggled to keep her healthy and well but in the end she passed away, a good year later so I believe strongly that if I had proper research and could spot signs of illness I could have kept her alive for much, much longer. (She was a girl bc she laid an egg).
I was actually not aware at all that such horrible things like ferret farms existed at all. You figure you can trust pet shops with the animals they receive, especially big chains like Petco because being so big they would worry about someone informed who could put a lawsuit on them you know? I'll definitely look into a private breeder (I know its good for pets like hedgehogs and rats but I had no idea ferrets fell into that too) and do plenty of research before getting a ferret of my own. Thanks again for all that info!

Yeah, there is a lot of money in the breeding and selling of cute animals, the issue is many places don't treat the animals well and there are sometimes inbreeding issues to. Also, check with the laws of where you live, for some ignorant idiotic states, Ferrets are deemed "exotic" animals and in places like Texas, they literally think if a ferret where to, say, get released in the wild, they would form packs of rabid ferrets that would literally attack livestock.
Which, for note, ferrets can get rabies, but it effects them differently, instead of going crazy and becoming aggressive and bite-happy, they get what is known as "dumb rabies" which is, the virus makes them become lethargic, listless, they lay around all day and don't eat food or drink water, and literally starve to death. Atop of it, ferrets can't hunt on their own in the wild due to out level of domestication, meaning one put in the wild would literally over heat fast, become dehydrated, and if they can survive that, usually die of hunger due to there being no convenient ferret pellets roaming the wild for them to eat.
In other words, they literally can not survive without human help, they are 100% dependent on you feeding them, cleaning after them, and making sure they get plenty of water.

There are plenty of animals like that. Hamsters are a prime example of that. I am well aware of the fact that ferrets are 100% domesticated. Its the same thing with pet skunks too, they have no sense of direction and you would lose the little stinker. And let's agree on one thing, Texans are stupid? I mean, I know the stupidity is dying out as the old idiots get replaced but its still probably the state that's most backwards out of all of them...its the head of the stupid wave of stupidity that US currently is going through. Not to worry though, I lived in FL and will be returning there within the next few months and I know FL is cool with ferrets since they sell them on regular pet stores and whatnot.
Yeah, Texas is full of idiots, like those guys that while open carry protesting, walked into a Chipotle with AR-15's and M16's and got offended when even the NRA said it was a bit weird to see that as well as they got kicked out of a Sonic or something for walking in with their rifles and scaring away costumers. When even the NRA is like "whoa, that's going a bit far" you know you are really some one of special needs. XD Of course, they threatened to withdraw their support of the NRA and the NRA, back-peddled and was like "NONONO! It was just the opinion of ONE person, not the whole org, we're sorry!"
Well, it was a protest, a peaceful one, about being allowed to carry openly. It actually was not illegal what they did, but it was really unsettling to the people around them, as seeing some one with a rifle like that, let alone several people all at once, walking in with their rifles over their shoulder, usually means they are there to rob the place or take hostages. Pistols on a hip holster are fine, those tell people that you carry open and proudly, and if shit goes down, they are the one to go to. But AR-15's and M16's along with AK-47's are what our society as deemed are the 'bad guy' guns when you see them outside of a war movie or action movie.
I don't believe in peaceful protesting...if you were from Brazil like me you'd understand. There is always ONE SOB that fucks it up for everyone else, always, period. Besides, guns, IMO, are meant for protection, not for showmanship, I would NEVER feel safe on the streets if ANYONE was walking around with a gun with them. Living half of my life in US and half of my life here in Brazil has proven one thing for me, Americans are paranoid as heck and I just can't trust anyone with a gun, even when its someone I know, let alone someone I don't.
Exactly, I don't have to be from Brazil to know, I know how bad it gets there, more so with the riots over the World Cup. Peaceful protests are fine, if it's like, a 1-day thing, and there is a lot of control around. At a protest like was happening, no one is going to go off and shoot people, the entire group would turn on you in a second and blow you away. But by taking their guns into places full of people, not part of the protest area, they did ruin it for everyone. Guns are for protection, most people that carry guns never have to use them as just having one keeps people from messing with you, and if they do, you have some sort of defense. But I agree, Americans are Paranoid, and with good reason, given how messed up things are here with the rich getting richer and exploiting things to benefit them atop our medical bills being insane, the less rich and poor are more prone to acting out, to being violent and desperate, robbing houses, turning to selling drugs, mugging people, all of those things usually ending in some one getting hurt sooner or later.
Very true...I noticed that quite a bit as I grew up there. The real reason for this stupid riots is because of politics, although most of the world doesn't know this. Brazil is RETARDEDLY corrupt, its what keeps it from progressing, which, of course, is the exact opposite of our flag says "order and progress" my ass. I do like a lot of the laws on US far more then here though, far more, and as for people...I rather deal with ignorant people who I can ignore then a corrupt country I cannot. Its pretty bad how paranoid US has become since 9/11 but seeing as I was there when it happened, I can understand how they feel, even if I don't agree. I never point a finger accusing something or someone right off the bat because paranoia or frustration, I always try to find a calm and logically thought out solution to why something happened and that is a sad but true trend in US. Its not "why did this person snap and shoot all these people?", its "who can we blame this time? the niggers, the fags or videogames"...its rather pathetic IMO. Also lol, from ferrets to serious world conversations, I wonder how many people are scratching their heads going "uh...these two are nuts!" lol
Ive read up about the dangers of leaving a ferret unsupervised with one, yes. People online have just suggested taking a bit of a larger tube and cutting a line down one side, so that it doesnt constrict them. That way the ferret has somethin to fit themselves into, and they wont get stuck. As for those small tubes, I can imagine a ferret might stop enjoying those quite quickly.
This is a thing that has happened! Behold: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/12979113/
