A new taur to my family of taurs that love trains. This fellow at least doesn't have to worry about soot and coal dust showing on his pelt.

He is naturally black in color but like most melanistic species the spots still bleed through.

I wanted to ask about only female panthers being melanistic, but then noticed "chakat" tag :)

I've seen male melanistic panthers. Did someone tell you that only females can be melanistic? Its not true.

I somehow suspect that there would end up being an accumulation of white ash instead.

Surprisingly the cabs on the steam engines I have been on are pretty clean and even the smoke from the stack doesn't put out much soot or ash but some does come out. Coal itself tho is pretty dirty and leaves a residue if you've ever handled it. Hand some out for Christmas. Its fun.

That's cool to know about steam engines! I only mentioned the white ash because it seems to be inevitable that when you have white it gets stained by everything but, somehow, when you have black it ends up covered in white dust or similar!

When I was on the Zephyr they also had a car that that a coal burning kitchen. It was really cool although ironically that train was Diesel.

If you mean the train I have no idea. I'm sure there are also some levers up near the ceiling and other parts of the cab that aren't shown. He is laying down after all. No gas pedal

I don't know about modern steam engines (other than many of them use liquid fuel), but a century ago the locomotives had the crew of at least two: a driver, who handled the controls and a stoker depicted above. They didn't even have to be in the same room.

I've seen taur trains and 4 legs is quite enough as it is. Then there are the other naughty taur trains heh which I won't go into.

Could very easily be a "Camelback" type. The cab for the engineer and his assistant is midway down the boiler. They were eventually banned.

Yep, there are a couple of taurs and chakats that like train stuff. Railrunner is a fan as well.

Firefeeder is more narrow gauge though, since I am here in Queensland, Australia where it is all 3ft6in and 2ft gauge
