"Artefact" is a fine spelling for it, particularly in a fantasy setting. The original phrase is arte factum, from ars facere, blah blah blah hurr durr burr: Point is you're fine. Your in-canon reasoning is cute, too♥ =P
Vix is dead on g'ddamn target, tho. That burd be bonkers. Rolling around in her brain'd be fun, I bet. Fun and prolly filled with clouds of indecipherable glitter-smoke.
I bet Vix's mind is like... a rather placid pretty surface with twisting, branching labyrinths below... Doesn't seem sinister, just a li'l 'huh?' but with much more going on than she generally shows.
Fen is probably a nice li'l serene scene she's built for herself on a 'floating island' except it's not actually floating, it's precariously balanced on a dragon's back, but given it's a usually stable ride, she's usually oblivious to her heritages.

Visitors, however, are usually kept to the outer halls and the whole thing is decorated in somewhat fragile but modest adornment. Porcelain tiles, stunning filigree, but light, light...
Not a flashy or loud mental world, and those who tromp around too noisily are likely to be swept out quick before they crack too many tiles!
The Meeka is a shy, subtle beauty with immense strength deep down, but not a lot of brassy flash or confidence. x3
