Auric Refsheet - lower main pane (by Ashe Skyler)
This is just the lower main character pane of The Great Big Auric Refsheet found here http://www.furaffinity.net/full/15514436/ I believe most of these are digital drawings with digital color, though there may be some traditional linework under some of them.
Auric's wing pattern is from a Buteo called a Long-Legged Buzzard, which is a hawk not a vulture. The wing pattern is simplified and somewhat stylized on this refsheet and it can be further simplified by an artist. It can also be expanded to look more like the real bird, if you are an expert in drawing wings, enjoy details, and like the pattern of the long-legged buzzard. This is one of the best examples of Auric’s color morph, showing both sides of the wing: http://ibc.lynxeds.com/photo/long-l.....-flight-photos
In general he has about 20-22 flight feathers on each wing but it varies and I'm not worried about keeping that consistent, so it can be adjusted to fit the size of his wings and the style of the artist (although I’m now imagining the Foghorn Leghorn quote “Fortunately I always keep my feathers numbered for just such emergencies”).
Auric's hybrid tail has a few tail feathers on each side near the base of the furry tail, and some small coverlet feathers at the top base of the furry tail. Generally 3 to 5 tail feathers on each side are good, whatever works for the size of the sketch. The tail feathers can be mostly parallel to each other rather than radiating out of a common point like a bird's fan tail (this is mainly to make it look more unique). There is a detailed view of the tail design on the Anatomy Pane: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/15703063/
