But it looks like everyone made great technological progress without the artifacts. Why not wait until they can judge the situation better? ...apart from temptation, greed, mind control etc.
...
I just realized: This is totally going to lead to a confrontation with Mis. (She guards it, right?) And that is going to be awesome.

Ooooohhhh
oooohhhh!
This is becoming interesting!
I really, really wonder what's up with those. Maybe they are remnants from before that ominous event that happened not so long ago? (The recreation of the world, I mean. Or shattering. Or whatever it was.)
The possibilities.
Why doesn't this update faster D:

Well, I wouldn't pay it all on my own. What did you expect? :D
Plus, you're pretty much living in the worst country to do this. I'm frankly quite surprised that we don't see more intelligent young people from, say, Eastern Europe or India become indy game developers or something similar that they can finance through crowd funding - seems a pretty easy way to get rich there if you ask me. All you need is some computer skills.

This is starting to sound a little like the basic concept behind the BBC series A for Andromeda. Not to imply that's where you got the idea; because (1.) the series ran in 1961 (pretty sure you weren't born yet) and (2.) there is only one known episode surviving. There was a TV movie in 2006, which even I saw here in the States. British astronomer, cosmologist and science fiction author Fred Hoyle created the concept and wrote all seven episodes. Briefly, scientists receive a signal from the galaxy Andromeda instructing them to build a sophisticated computer; when they comply, the computer tries to take over the world.
"What we going to do tonight, Brain?"
Anyway, the whole 'mystery message from afar' is a recurring theme (e.g., Contact with Jodie Foster). It can be done very well; we await your latest tale with bated breath.

So... assuming those really are AIs. Apparently AIs are capable of using magic? Do some of them use robot bodies?
This indicates some possible "Deus est Machina" scenario here.
But how does this kind of technology fit into a clockpunk fantasy world?
Before whatever happened happened, was Farelliar inhabited by a technologically advanced society? Seems unlikely to, given the kind of society this is implying. (Although something along the lines of Crystal Spires And Togas seems possible.)
Btw, why doesn't ToT have a tvtropes page yet?

Water won't do much, I'm afraid. I've seen her pour a few drops into a river. A week later, a pair of travelers set up camp nearby, and all of a sudden one of them jumped the other like she was possessed. She didn't even drink from the water, she just refilled her flask. Of course, the culprit blamed an Artefact for everything. It didn't matter that it was just as much of a victim.
Bottom line: I wouldn't drink that stuff. And the fact that she has no problems with it herself is making me... Uneasy, to say the least.

Nice work. The plot thickens. Now it's time for the porn.
You know, Fer, if you keep adding more interesting threads and only tease us with implications instead of actually resolving anything (and giving answers without adding two new questions for every answer), one of these days, we WILL have to tie you up...

Hmm, so these ancient relics can communicate? AI? Magically trapped souls? Alien intervention?
Hard to call now, but if the offer I genuine, perhaps the objects are benign? Maybe they are the true keys to fixing what is wrong, or perhaps they are the cause of it? For the first time, I don't even have the slighted inkling of a solid theory other than the fact that these objects are likely tied to dragons in some way.

No good can come of listening to inanimate objects with no anthropomorphic manifestation...
Goddess Sword: Has a humanlike manifestation; helps Link put the smack down on the ultimate evil.
...Can't think of a specific instance of an object without an anthro manifestation being malicious at the moment, but I know I've seen it in fiction a ton! >:o
