...and at once I knew, I was not magnificent...
A commission that I started in late 2013 for the patient
inspired by the song Holocene.
I just recently started painting it and you can kind of see that; my style for characters has changed a lot since then! Either way I'm happy to call it finished and think it turned out well enough.
Weary and weak from hours of stumbling through a dream-like wonderland, the raccoon's eyes finally beheld what he'd been searching for.
Struggle through the vines and bramble as he might, his body just wouldn't break free from it's constraints; not even with release mere feet away.
{Note: I still don't have internet, I'm uploading this from my phone!}

Well in all honesty commissions shouldnt even take that long, that's ridiculous imo
one shouldn't have to wait 12 months or more for a commission. The longest I'd probably wait is like 2-3 months and then get a refund. You clearly have iron patience waiting for this however it's really unprofessional to make someone wait this long for a commission especially when the artist is shitting out stacks upon stacks of personal when they really should prioritise commissions. My friend has waited about 6 months or more for an art trade but lord knows that's out of the question now. I honestly think you shouldn't have to wait this long for a commission or an art trade but that's just my two cents haha. I'm rather inebriated so I may ramble unfortunately.

No you're absolutely right, it is rather unprofessional that it took so long. We have to take into account though that we're talking about a teenager who is still learning self discipline and trying to make a living on her talent. They're at a serious disadvantage to other artists and other people their age, lacking the necessary experience to manage time and work among multiple projects. Fortunately though they have really turned things around in the last few weeks.
That being said, personal art is extremely important for an artist to create as it allows them to develop their talent and increases the quality of their other work; commissions aren't usually afforded the risks associated with experimentation and learning. As long as the artist is both creating art and maintains communication with the commissioners, that buys all the time I need personally to remain patient.
Patience is a virtue, but I won't lie and say I wasn't annoyed at times, ha. This piece doesn't have nearly the relevance it does as it did when I first thought of the idea, unfortunately, but this existing now means that their queue is almost clear and that's awesome.

Yes I agree, personal art is important to destress and get back into the groove of drawing however as you agree, 12 months of almost nothing but personal art honestly seems like you're ignoring priorities deliberately which is very unproffessional and could lead to customer complaints or even an Artists Beware article.
It's unfortunate you had to wait so long and the image doesn't have the poignancy it did when you first wanted it, so I really feel for you there. You've been a wonderfully patient customer to this person which is pretty rare around FA, so kudos to you there.
