That's really odd. I use Gentoo 90% of the time, but I have Windows 8.1 for games so maybe that's why I don't see those.

I run on Debian, and use Debian for playing, too:
World of Tanks,
Warthunder,
Second Life,
Portal ( stuck somewhere since half a year ),
FEZ ( stuck there like, ... since a year ),
FreeCiv,
FreeCol,
Minecraft.

I play a ton of games on Gentoo. Steam works even though it's supposed to be for Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is just nerfed version of Debian. And almost everything available for Debian works right out of the box for 'Gentoo and Arch, too. Horray for LSB ( Linux Standard Base ).

I don't think I even have LSB installed. I know on Fedora it was a package. And yeah, I know. Wasn't Debian the first distribution?

If I remember right, Yellow Dog was the first distribution utilizing the Linux kernel and the GNU Tools. Before it was all BSD or Minix.
But Debian was amongst the first, starting in 1993.
LSB needn't actually be installed. The simple fact that pretty much every distro I know either follows the LSB guidelines, or can install a packet that ensures compatibility with the LSB, means that pretty much every program that can handle LSB pathes can handle every distribution.
And luckily the guys at Valve made the Steam client capable of handling Ubuntu's way of organizing things as well as the LSB guidelines.
