Let's all take a moment to remember this post from Feretta about half a year ago.

The bet was probably something that came up while they were sitting around drunk one day. I have little doubt that he probably regretted it after he connected with her. Piris seems like she is inebriated. I can see this going one of 2 ways Fen will either fly into a rage or be angry with herself for thinking that he had changed and it might be possible for her to have a relationship with him. Dammit I'm starting to make myself cry.
Ah yes, take a bet, actually care by the end, and then have it all blow up in your face. The problem is, even if he was sincere by the end, it's too late now to hide the fact that his approach was anything but sincere. Unless of course he actually did mean it from the start and saw the bet as easy money, thinking Fen would never know of the side action, which is perhaps equally damning for him.
So, does the memory scenario which FenFen is currently experiencing replay them back as she remembered them at the time or as they actually happened?
Because if it's from her perspective at the time then I could totally buy Baren seeming very genuine and affectionate if it was her misremembering that made them seem that way and he really did just do it as a bet. Otherwise, I feel like this is the whole "I did this as a bet but now that I get to know you, you're actually pretty cool" scenario only now that initial bet is going to drive them apart. Either way, I'm seeing a bout of classic FenFen short-tempered rage in the very near future.

He's half alive. He's half dead. Folks just call him Buckethead.

This was certainly one of the potential outcomes.
He has a chance to come out of this unscathed in a "I made that bet before I knew you" kind of way; but he didn't spend much time with her to make that play.
He could apologize, but I doubt it.
He could try to justify his actions, but it probably wouldn't help.
He could try to build on it as having gotten them close enough for a change of heart. But Piris complicates that possibility.
I think his fate primarily rests on whether Fen will give him a chance to explain. From the look of it, she's going to try to give him a chance.
Her mother likely taught her that money and sex occasionally go hand-in-hand. It doesn't mean feelings and opportunities can't be genuine.
I think that she could get past this if he admits to actually liking her. She's been through a lot in recently revealed events and I think she'd be open enough to one small betrayal if it offered her something worthwhile that she could count on, something she can openly be happy about.
Though... her personality is self loathing and moody, so there's a chance she'd run away to a comfort zone and cry her little eyes out.
She's also impulsive, so there's a chance she'll act violently. But now she's got nobody to run to, where before she had her mother.
If not violently, Buckethead could play his cards right and she could drag him back to her place for some ::ahem:: rough making up.
But her history doesn't seem to imply that even under favorable conditions she could accept that kind of scenario without some kind of mystical intervention... which is a possibility.
She's young, which means whatever happens will be less logical and more emotional. This is really going to be a display of what her upbringing made her before she went out on her own. Before she was seasoned by adult life and the need to survive.
Natalie at this point seems to be a wild card. I don't know who she is or what she's capable of. She could exist only to act as a pawn sacrifice for a terrible mistake. She could be a plot pivot for offering Fen a new path to take.
This is certainly a dramatic event.

It's the timing of it all that makes it bad for Baron. She needed someone to help her easd her pain and opened up to someone for support. While it did help, learning that it was not a even a charity case but a bet makes it so bad. He basically took advantage of her. He used her emotions to basically place himself where he needed to to get into her dress.
His only potential saving grace is that he didn't seem to want to let it slip that he had won this bet and that it wasn't he who initiated it. The fact that he didn't tell this Liz is potentially telling. That he did it less for the bet and more for personal interests.
Regardless this whole thing reeks. A bet was still made, and even if he was genuinely interested in her h3 still bet money he could have sex with her. Which ultimately cheapens and spoils the sex. Because for Fen, she cannot be sure if he did it for the bet or because he actually likes her.

For context, we don't know what the bet was yet.
It's easy to assume it was sex, but it just as easily could have been something else.
It's could have been something like:
Baron: Oh man, great to be back in town!
Liz: Yeah. It's good to be home. I can't wait to take a bath.
Baron: A bath? Heh. I can't wait to spend some of this coin on something else to keep me warm. Think I'll go pay Ms. Montaro a visit.
Liz: You don't know?
Baron: Know what?
Liz: She just died. We passed her funeral on the way into town.
Baron: Oh. That sucks. I'm gonna miss her.
Liz: Miss her? You say that like you actually cared about her as more than a piece of-
Baron: I did care!
Liz: Really? Okay then, put your money where you mouth is.
Baron: What did you have in mind?
Liz: You remember Fen?
Baron: What; Dickgirl?
Liz: Ugh. Yes. Her. She was Montaro's adopted daughter and she's all alone now. I bet you X that you can't get past your old ways and do something to cheer her up.
Baron: Huh... Yeah, I think I can make that happen. I'll take that bet! ::grabs bottle of booze off the counter and heads outside:: There isn't a problem a little drunkenness can't take a person away from. We'll get plastered, have a few laughs and the bet's as good as won.

All I see is that they were talking and Piris knew Baren had won.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/22046073/ check out panel 2. That's Piris talking to Natalie. He's also grinning while showing her a bottle which she does not at all seem entertained by.
That could be the bottle Baren originally offered to Fen. If they were mean spirited, maybe they all spit in it or something. Getting Fen to drink it could have been the bet.
I don't remember who Liz is or if we've been introduced to them, but it's possible that they had business elsewhere and Piris was the witness to make sure Baren didn't just say he won the bet later.
For all I know, Liz could be the badger here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/21658169/ or even the Bunny lady we saw a couple pages ago who was staring at Fen.

I understand. But his actions seem to say otherwise. And if that was it why would he spend the eavning with her? He would have no reason to ang with her afterwards, and that childish. Not something that adults would bet on. No, it would be sex. Consider the series so far. How could it be anything but?
They got to talking and decided they could get along. They hadn't seen each other for a while, it's not outside the realm of possibility.
That aside, sex is generally an enjoyable way to spend the evening. He didn't force her into it or even suggest it, she offered. That doesn't make it okay considering she was inebriated, but the point is that he didn't ask.
And considering the series, not everything is about sex. It happens a fair amount, but between that there's a lot of other things going on. Maybe they put something else in the bottle that was supposed to put the equivalent of a "kick me" sign on her back, which explains the dragon's grin and the bunny's stare. Some kind of cruel time lapsed joke you need to know how to see.
Maybe it wasn't the bottle at all. But Piris was in that bar and it's possible that the bet was completed before Fen and Baren left.

Probably neither, come to think of it.
If he's been hanging out with Baren on missions, he's probably a skilled fighter. Fen's tough, but she's probably not an experienced fighter yet.
Skill aside, Baren probably needs Piris for something or else he wouldn't put up with him.
If Fen goes up against Baren, she's got a chance because he likely is willing to take his punishment while Piris laughs. But if either of them go after Piris it might not end well.
But then, this is the first we've seen him. We don't know how he's been getting on this whole time.

Are buckets to Fen, what frying pans are to Rapunzel?

You're right. Some people just love the taste of foot in their mouth.
In Piris' defense though, it's possible that the bet had nothing to do with sex and he has no idea what they did the night before. He'd been teasing her since childhood about her anatomy, so calling her that, as far as he's concerned, shouldn't be any more risky than it was the day before.
The bet itself was made between Baren and somebody Fen has never met (Liz). Maybe it didn't have anything to do with Fen, so much as it had to do with Maria.
Perhaps the bet was to keep Fen distracted so Liz could go looking around her place uninterrupted for a while.
If that's the case, mentioning the bet right in front of Fen would be tactless, but not exactly mean spirited.
They were spending time away from Fen's place all afternoon. Plenty of time to go looking for loose floor boards and hidden caches.
Or it sounds like the bet may have been open to all of her group, so perhaps the bet was about who could find Mrs. Montaro's daughter first and Baren didn't want Fen to be found by Liz for some reason.
As for dental being cheap in their world... Have you see any toothless people yet, apart from the beaked folks? They all having shiny white perfect smiles. Their world probably has great dental care!

Well, we won't have been introduced to her for another 13 years their time, which is 23 years 4 months our time (give or take a few weeks).
I recall her being chased out of a village before she arrived at the monastery, but I don't remember her being said to have been exiled from anywhere.
I don't claim to have a perfect memory, so you may well be correct, but could you link me to that page?
And again, we have no idea what the bet is. All we know is it was made between Baren and Liz, of which Liz has yet to be introduced to Fen and may not even know she exists. Baren is excreting nervous sweats and discomfort in Fen's presence, so he's obviously uncomfortable with letting her in on what the bet was. He doesn't want Liz to know that he won the bet, but that could also mean that he was betting she was wrong and he doesn't want to admit she was right... for whatever reason.
Piris knows Baren won, which means when he won it likely was at a time when Liz was not around, which possibly could have been at the bar, but it could just as well have been anywhere else.
There's a possibility the bet is something completely unrelated to Fen but would make Baren appear extremely foolish. He might simply be worried about his own ego.

it was in the first pages of this comic, when she was chased out of the village. when somebody's chased off and told never to return, I call that an exile.
and yeah, those points are all well and good and in fact have some merit...I personally just take sadistic glee in egochecking asshats. whether with a 5 iron or brass knuckles, it's all the same to me as long as I remind them they're mortal and they're saying the first polite words that have ever left their mouth, even if it is "please don't kill me"

Her being chased out of that village won't have happened for another 12 years at least and the event immediately leading up to that appeared to be Fen having sex with somebody. Hard to say though considering it's in shadow. My guess on that situation is that she was having sex with somebody she shouldn't have.
y'know, with pet names for people like "dickgirl" and "bucketface" and that smarmy grin, I think I've deduced who the negative influence on that group is.
If he doesn't die or come to serious harm, I'm making a fanfic in which he does.
and if beating him into a bloody pulp and leaving him paraplegic for life isn't the event that led to her getting banished to the mountain, I'm going to be sorely disappointed.

Bren and the Bet?
Considering the faces he's making while his old friend's mouth motors on, this wouldn't be a bet while Baren was still a jerk and fairly young or has Baren's show of maturing been a ruse all along?
If it's the latter, then it irks me off that he's that good at manipulating emotions and how others see him like that.
