Ah, a time capsule. This gives me a new question:
Considering that at least the first civilization 950,000+ years ago managed to achieve a level of technology that could produce AI devices that could make advanced quantum computation at a rather small size... what kind of disaster would've caused such a civilization to go extinct!?
And it happened 9 times!
...
...... Is this a Reaper thing?

A civilization capable of making such powerful computers with advanced AI made from materials that can weather eons and still function to capacity sounds like a space fairing civilization, or at least one that must be capable of highly advanced space flight beyond our current understanding. Something as simple as resource limitations or internal war doesn't sound like something that could take down such a highly advanced civilization.
Considering what I learned about the Cuban Missle Crisis we were extremely close to such an event already. Something like that could easily be repeated. Just consider how often Trump already threated a nuclear response.
At a later date colonies might want independence and throw some rocks at earth, which is answered by interplanetary nukes.
In any case, a civilization tied to a planet will always be threatened. Even if start to expand into our solar system, there could be events that end a civilization. The chance are probably much better if we manage to become a level 1 civilization.

Reminds me of the world of Numenera. 9 ages, each leaving behind technology, magic and other such things over a period of unknown years. In the current age there are numerous artifacts from the previous ages and they are all hugely different. I think they're called Ciphers or Glyphs. Good game, good system, would recommend.
I also wonder what was in that sandwich...

And they've built a temple around this thing near what I'm guessing is a mountaintop with spring water. This just raises so much question like how long has this temple stood here and why was it built around here? Now I want to know if Misalia and the others have spoken with this thing at some point in time!
Well, that dude exists on a geological time-scale. Impressive that it remained functional for so long; there must be some seriously advanced technology, magic, or both involved in its construction. Like, even more than would be required to create an AI. With that kind of engineering, the AI part would be comparative child's play.
I wonder.
Let's see, the technology for this computer would probably already fill a small library. All the knowledge from that age and what was known from the first age is already a library beyond imagination. And it probably remembers the last nearly million years.
I wonder do we even see the entire device? Or just the outer sensor and access shell while the rest is in some kind of subspace?

It would certainly be a viable possibility. It might even explain how it still has power if perhaps it runs on geothermal. After all that time, multiple extinction events, the rocks just accumulate around the body of the device.
It could also imply that the core of the mountain is crystal, if one of the events happened to involve an impact. This too would offer an explanation as to an ever expanding data storage if the device processes carbon into crystal and then converts it into viable data storage.

So he's coming up on the big 1,000,000 year anniversary! Someone should plan a party for the event.
Also the world has been destroyed and either 'reborn' or 'remade' nine times in less than a million years? So in this realm of existence the 'our world is only two thousand years old' lobby happens to be spot on? Wow.

Let's assume that Fen understands that last part better then the beginning of this page. That means this storage device run by an A.I.?.. has survive nine apocalypses. That must mean it's library is quite vast.
Quite an honor for Fen to sit down and have a snack with someone who has seen quite a bit during it's long life and service. I can't imagine this kind of dialogue is all that common outside a small number of individuals with how Mis most likely guarding it.

The fact it survived nine apocalypses and that its a library makes it dangerous. It has recorded much about the world across its numerous cycles, including the magic and/or technology of those civilizations. And that knowledge can be abused. I'd be worried.
I wonder if that was the real number of years, in some programs there is a limit of how many times a digit can be used. This leads to looping where the limit would have to be added over again to get the correct digit. Kinda like a clock can't be used to count days unless you have a counter on it. Or a display that can't show you all the numbers it has. For our friend here I would say "I have lost count after X year but have started counting since then. I have done this Y number of times."
Oh my, if they got enough candles together for his birthday the mountain would look like an erupting volcano! XD
Wonder what he means by world seeds though? Is that just the designation of when the world had a hard reset or did LARS have something to do with seeding new growth? Hmm...

*puts on nerd glasses* I guess "world seeds" means 9 apocalyptic events. But not big bangs because our universe is much older than 973,483 years. I wonder what the apocalypse looks like in this fantasy world? Maybe it's more literal, like the world tree regrowing from a seed and repopulating the world with life. :L
I have seen the rise and fall of empires, of entire worlds. I was old when the mountains were young. I have seen people rise from nothing to the greatest heights of power to walk the earth as though they were gods, then when enough time passed, the world was as if they never were. I witnessed the light being cleft from the dark at the beginning of all reality. All that you know, all that there is, I came before it.
And even I can't see why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

I'm now wondering just what Singularity-level this thing is at internally. It's CLEARLY meant to be baseline-accessible with a front-end AI that's meant for such, but the interior... That thing may be 3rd or 4th Toposophic in technological development, and, possibly, whatever internal archive/librarian software it's running. At the size shown, the actual information processing and storage would HAVE to be non-material.
If I (using windows' calculator) did the math right and the years it used are the same for Fen's measurements, then relatively speaking (converting to our years) the actually length of time is 1,752,269.4 years.
Of course, that's only if I remember correctly that 10 years their time is equal to 18 years our time.

I just re-read the entire comic and I must say that Lars and the other artefacts are even more impressive than I thought. If I understood it right, the last 'event' was reality being changed. Either the being that changed reality left them out on purpose, they can hide from such a being or they were able to resist reality changing.
I've also being reminded of a lot of details I had forgotten. Which begs the question. Is Lars distracting her from some questions? While the information is important, we'll see if she remembers asking more questions about her father.
