Sorry.
I am SO frickin' tired of the smarmy, SHITTY, condescending apple ads that try to imply that Mac users are so damn cool and PC users are all accountants.

Hahaha, Mac started to remind me of Starbucks and how they send you these ads saying "we just want to teach how to order our fantastically better then you coffee" it stated somewhere to "show of the logo and be proud of it status symbol" .. status symbol that YOU JUST MADE UP!!!!
X.X GO PC!
X.X GO PC!
Thanks.
Micro$oft can't sue them because PCs don't actually belong to Micro$oft. Windows happens to be the most used OS in the world because it's compatible with more machines.
I know this is likely to get flamed by Linux users. It's a valid argument, and if you happen to like installing workarounds for all the software you use, or are a high level admin tech, Linux is good. For my money, it's an incomplete OS that needs some more development before it's ready for public consupmtion.

I also found those commercials stupid. Espically when the make it sound like pc HAS to have Vista, when XP and 2kpro are just fine. The "I'm a Mac" guy looks like he nothing better to do then to say how much better he thinks his is. Answer this then "mr. Mac" why did you have to turn to pc to bail you out of bankruptcy? Huh, tell me!
I've been PC owner and builder for years and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Seriously, if mac is so hot shit, why does it have a market share weaker than several pc producing companies? It's not as if there's a PC Corp. out there who has a slightly higher market share. There are three or four companies (HP,Dell...etc.) out there who hold a higher market share than Apple. When added up, their market share is miniscule.
Only Apple has arbitrary OS dependenies. This is what happens when your hardware is designed to only work with your own OS instead of being generally compatible.
I'm convinced that, beside the few people programmed by their school systems to think that Apple computers are the only ones that exist, the only reason people buy Apple products is that they need a computer that suits their starbucks lifestyle.

Actually the Dell, HP, etc market share is like hundreds of times larger, to the tune that even Linux now has a larger user base than Macintosh.
Then again a well designed Linux isn't hard to install, works out of the box with nearly all desktops I've put it on, provides a ton more software than Windows, and can run on nearly anything...all for free. Or, for the same security, buy a $2,000 Macintosh with lower-end hardware. With the Intel Macs the only thing Apple has going for it is Mac OS, because under the hood they're simply ordinary PCs in every way that matters.

Awesome comic! :)
But what I want to see in those mac vs. pc commercials are one guy as a mac, one guy as a pc, and one guy as a pc that's run by someone who has some common sense. In all of them, it seems to me that the pc guy has all sorts of problems that are easily avoidable, but the user is a grand ol' idiot who doesn't know the CD tray isn't a coffee cup holder... Computers are only as smart as the person using it...
I have no problem with macs. They have their uses. It's mac ads and the "holier than thou" mac users that annoy me...

Big Daddy used to own one of the new Macs.
*Macs never crash like PCs do, LIE!
*Mac can do anything! LIE!
*Macs can use any software: BIG FUCKING LIE!
guy at a store tried to sale me a Mac.. I think he got mad when I started laughing .... an wouldn't stop.

Also, add to the list of myths:
*Macs can't get viruses. UNTRUE! WHile they can't be infected by .exe files, they are vulnerable to a host of trojan and worm files and scripts.
*Macs are easy to upgrade. FLAT OUT BULLSHOT! Macs are easy to upgrade until they reach their planned obsolescence date, after which no new OS installs will be viable due to out of date hardware and software which can't be upgraded because the software's out of date but is necessary in order to install hardware updates.

Of the 50 Mac virus known, none are in the wild and none can cause the damage that the average piece PC malware can. Not to mention you have to manually download it and then run it, even then it only affects the user account since be default most *NIX don't run as root.
By contrast about 50 a day are found for Windows and can install without any user input, will then download their "buddies", and hide themselves so tightly that not even corporate ITs can remove them without replacing the hdd, flashing the BIOS, and starting over from bare scratch.

I believe this has something to do with why people don't steal Yugos or Gremlins or Fiats. Why bother with dangerous malware on a system that is barely used, has fewer techs who own it and was bought by somebody with enough disposable income to afford one in the first place?
It's also that simply the *NIX platform is more secure. It's not market share, it's the fact Windows allows such low-level commands to be called by a limited user account. I fully agree that if a *NIX found a larger market share it would be attacked more, especailly since many low-level programs running root access could have security flaws that could be as bad as Windows. But the average "I clicked on a webpage and my computer is now a zombie" isn't as likely and fairly easily fixed.
LOL

It's probably just too old. Sounds like you don't have enough ram (that's the likeliest photoshop problem) and a DVD drive is really easy to install. Nothing a couple upgrades couldn't solve.
Mac isn't really the solution here unless you just prefer the Mac experience or can get really cheap apps for the Mac. Purchase price for a Mac (especially for their monitors, which really are the best piece of Apple equipment involved) is pretty steep and I was really not overstating the price of building a PC being a third to a quarter of that of buying a new Mac.

I've used Mac OS, Windows and Linux and have come the the conclusion that each one has their uses and, other than preference, if you have enough money to spare each one can do what the other can. (Other than Linux, which can do nearly it all for free.) Other than, of course, hardcore gaming which is still Windows' domain.
My problem with Macintosh is that the arrogance of the "Mac dude" is seen in their representatives and if you question anything from "on high", even with hard evidence, they will short circuit to the point of swearing at you.
(True story, and what made it worse was that the guy did it to me, at me, while I was presenting myself as a newspaper reporter for my university's paper.)
Windows, even Vista, is inherently insecure. Vista's "security feature" only work if you take the time to read a message the pops up every few minutes, seemingly at random, and then know what it is saying and why. In the end if you don't lock it down with third-party software you WILL get malware and most likely will even if you do anyway.
Linux while works fine out of the box, and having nearly every class of software needed by the average office user (and many home users), it also has a HUGE amount of peripheral incompatibility. Printer support is OK, but woe be to anyone trying to use a scanner. I have a three-year old design that still isn't fully support. Plus laptops and wireless adapters rarely fully work, high-end graphics need the official drivers to work properly which can be a bit of a hassle to install, and many technology firms ranging from ISPs to hardware manufacturers simply don't have intent in trying to support it officially.

Hah! just saw this today, while i have nothing against macs personally, you've pretty much hit the nail on the head.
not to mention the fact that i'm afraid of macs... they're so fragile looking.
i have a PC, and went the heavy metal option of a Lian Li case.
Macs, to me, say nothing more than "i've got more money than you"
PC's on the other hand say "i've got more spare change from buying my PC than the guy who bought the mac"
PC's are easier to upgrade, and to maintain in the long run.. most macs require the purchase of a new machine in order to stay in the running.

I'm glad we have some common ground, here. Depending on the nature of the upgrade, though, Macs are about as easy to upgrade as PCs. If you're replacing the processor or motherboard or something, then yeah, PCs are easier and a lot cheaper, but otherwise...
Status symbols in the PC world should be more about function than image, I think. I understand two people talking about their computers and one says, "My video card is 10 times faster than yours." This is a logical argument. The other guy coming back with, "Mine's prettier and cost a fortune," just sounds retarded.

indeed..
what a PC can do should be more than what it can't do, and depending on the config, it can do a heck of a lot more than Mac's..
Both will run photoshop, and my PC happens to churn along quite nicely at large 600 dpi images. then again, with only a gig of ram.
i find it somewhat ironic that some macs can dual boot nowadays, quite able to run both windows and Mac OS.
I'm quite sure, that if one were to run the Mac OS under the very same conditions that an average PC user would run, it'd have itself some major conniptions and explode. =p

Yeah. It's the problem with proprietary software/hardware relationships. They really are married and inseperable. If only the Mac OS was a little more robust and more apt to play well with others, it'd be interesting to me. I find that anything a Mac can do, they do with ease. Elegant is the word that springs to mind. The downside to them is that, if it's not REALLY simple to do, it's damn near impossible.
I can only speak from my own experience. I bought an indigo iBook Firewire way back in Nov. 2001 (it was the last generation on the Clamshell iBooks). I used that thing every day for 5 years until replacing it with the Gateway laptop I use now. I think half a decade is a pretty good run for any computer, especially a portable. Lockups and freezes were countable on 1 hand over that time, and driver issues were non-existent. Mice, trackballs, flash drives and 2 different external hard drives all plugged in and worked perfectly. It weighs 7.2 pounds and is built like a tank (it was designed for educational use.) Right now I'm in college working on my Associate Degree in Applied Science for PC Support,So I'm learning quite a lot about the inner workings of Windows. That makes having to fix one much less of an issue. And my iBook still runs like it did the day I brought it home. Like I said, I only have my own experience to go on, but from my own point of view, Macs work very well. I definitely got my money's worth out of mine!
This is less a statement against Macs than it is a statement against the "Mac Image" perpetuated by an ad campaign that talks about Mac being a lifestyle choice rather than a computing solution. I've said many times, I have nothing against the hardware, just the ad campaigns directed toward the non-user who is supposed to suddenly be hip and knowledgable because he bought a computer that costs too much and is no better than any other pc, in general terms.
