‘Warp’ is actually one of the most probable FTL technologies in sci-fi, and isn’t limited to just Star Trek. The idea rests in a fictional technology that could warp the fabric of space in front of it, thereby sidestepping the fact that no object can move faster than the speed of light by essentially making the distance from point A to B shorter.
warps the fabric of space in front and back of itself, thus creating the always mentioned "warp bubble" that works like a waterfall in the front and a big wave in the back, pulling and shoving the vehicle through the fabric of space, possibly faster than light since the space inside the bubble stays basically staionary and just the space around the vessel going into FTL territory.

Well, less "most probable" and more "least impossible" - there are still lots of hurdles to overcome any one of which may turn out to be literally impossible, like the bubble the ship rests in being causually disconnected from the bubble and thus unable to stop, or actually accelerating the bubble to effective FTL speeds, or the need for probably-doesn't-exist-but-we-can't-prove-it-yet exotic matter with negative mass to make the FTL version, or the fact that a warp drive still violates causality, etc.
Still the best bet that anyone's come up with.
Fun thing tho is that anything your warp bubble hits, from space-dust to space-pigeons, is essentially converted into energy and trapped in the leading edge of the bubble, until you stop. Anything in front of you then proceeds to have a Very Bad Day, the range and extent of which depends on how much mass you flew through on the way there, as all that mass-energy is suddenly released.

Considering this is a flashback, and that LARS had last talked to Fen a thousand years ago, and there have been multiple iterations, I'd say it didn't work, but things didn't go 100%.
As in, things slowed down long enough for Alf to get a handle on things, but every so often ... something gets loose and he has to tack welds on the door.

I mean there are far worse ideas. conceptually I developed what is effectively a multi-dimension attack vector on a planetary to solar system level of scale which weakens the barrier between realities and makes the same matter from multiple dimensions occupy the same space at the same time causing a slight 'oopsydoodle' to the fabric of reality in the world lore I have for my own little world. Granted it's a perversion of another technology... but yeah... only some minor genocide of a species over... every reality.... across all time... it's all good... >_>*
this is true, which is why the secondary component of the universe I built has magic... or more importantly the magic behind what created the technology was technomancy. the reason it was a "perversion" of a technology was that it was made for FTL travel displacing the ship out of phase with base reality where the "rules" are thinner and exerting it's own rules on that gap between dimensions to travel from point A to B faster. This perversion did the same by colliding it's target with every copy of it's target that it could do so with the energy it had available.
The genocide over all reality and all time is a result of it's creator, a high level technomancer to the point of "god tier", went "No U!" when it was attempted to be used on her race with her technology perverted by that other race that decided to betray her. However the effect destabilized a wide section of space causing the very fabric of reality to be damaged. Normal FTL can't even be used in their region of space nor just "huffing it" in a generation ship coasting along. Gravity wells with no visible mass, radiation so extreme that ship screws would be roasted. electromagnetic disturbances that destroy electronics beyond repair. The consequences of technology/magic perverted to terrible ends and someone with to much power acting before thinking (out of desperation)

Let's hope Alf's anti-matter thingy doesn't simply give the universe eater a tummy ache. If it does, there's blackhole in their neighborhood that acts like one of its many mouths that it could lose it's lunch out of. That could get messy for their planet.
Though all this activity makes me wonder. Is this just blackholes acting like blackholes or is the Entity actively working here. Because if it's active, that suggests an Avatar or avatars. Does each solar system have its avatar or is their a Sus member in the research team?

Does the bomb CONTAIN antimatter?
Or does it’s effects PRODUCE antimatter?
Either case would be the most violent explosion the universe has seen since the beginning of time....
However the second would be far, far, FAR worse! (Universe destroying alternate universe creating Big Bang kinda far worse!)

Holy crap, ROFL, look at the timing: https://scitechdaily.com/throwing-a.....aw-of-physics/
It will be interesting to see how they deal with the time dilation as that device approaches the black hole's event horizon where time comes to a stop. From an outside observer's point of view, an object falling into a black hole comes to a stop at the event horizon and never falls in (and never explodes). And that's not even considering the incredibly high tidal forces that would want to rip this device apart.
I suppose they could have it come out of warp inside the event horizon. Nobody knows how time flows inside a black hole's event horizon.
