First of all it's my first tutorial... Honestly I hate combining art and text...
First of all it's not a detailed tutorial. I will draw detailed tutorials about drawing every part of the body later. This one is a general one to show the underlying idea of how to draw heads. Also I would like to know what is wrong and what could be changed. Also point me out grammatical mistakes and some shit... I want to know how what I did good and what I messed up to make better tutorials later.
Tell me what would be useful for you and what is unnecessary... I need pretty detailed feedback. Thanks in advance :)

I'm gonna draw precise tutorials on: eyes, hair, noses, teeth, tongues, muzzles, ears, hands, feet, bodies, tails, fur, coloring, cum, and many many more... it's also a good thing you know? I just make sure that my method is good before drawing a tutorial... Oh... a tutorial for glass, metal and shiny and rough surfaces would be cool too... if I only find time I will prepare a whole bunch of tutorials.
I love you for this one. I think it is very good. Better than an art text book I just read. Those things have such an attitude. Seam like they try their best to confuse and show off how much they know at the same time. Your's is much better. Hope you make one about the body and footpaws
Hehe I intend to make some. I don't think I'm good enough to teach people how to draw but I'm certainly better than many and my tutorials will be aimed at people who learn drawing so I guess it's fine :) Unfortunately I don't have enough time to spend it all on art. I'm not an artist but a science guy actually, so this consumes most of my time at the moment :)
PS: About the character design thing XD I actually lack in creativity :) Really... :) After I few characters I wouldn't know what to draw. Character design is 100x harder than normal drawing... Most character designers are good artists but only a few good artists are good character designers :)
Math minded? :D Yay. :D I'm a math lover too :D I'm not a mathematician but actually a computer scientist and a physicist-to-be :D I'm still learning some new math :D It's amazing hehe XD ok ok... enough :P
Well drawing DOES take much of time and work to learn well but I guess the results are satisfactory :D Of course only if you have enough patience to sit and learn :)
One more thing about learning... I tried to persuade many people that the only way to get better is being picky, analyze your own drawings and drawings of others, real objects, anatomy and so on... Most of them don't listen, yet they always yell they can't draw...

LOL! They do that to me too. I'm going to start an Art class here someday and see how many people I can get to come.
I taught my friends how to draw better. And now they're thanking me for it.
Yeah, math minded. I can look at your tutorial and break every part of it down to simple fractions and justify the ones that are too small sore simplicity.
:P :P :P

Thank you hon :) Of course angles are hard even for me. It's not that I can draw any angle well... 3/4 views are fine but I don't like the ones from below of above... Drawing requires mostly practise and as soon as you spend a considerable amount of time on it you will see progress ^_^
Thank you for taking the time and effort to make a tutorial like this.
I will definitely use this to help practice.
One of the main issues I have is with eyes and especially expressions.
But now hopefully your tutorial will give me better understanding on where to place everything.
So again thank you very much for this excellent how-to!
Will you be making any more in the future?

Well I think that's one of the key factors that people don't realise sometimes is the time and effort that is put into a tutorial of this nature.
But I will be keeping an eye out for when you make more, they are extremely helpful.
And you've made another fan of your work! haha.
Thanks for your reply and take good care! And thanks again for the tutorial.

I just wanted to say thank you for the tutorial. When it comes to drawing anthros or furry type animals, I always have the utmost difficulty drawing the muzzle, they'd either come out too long or I'm mess up the nose and all that mess... Even though I'm 9 months late, I just thought that I should throw in my 2 cents. Thanks again for the inspiring tutorial, I'll try practicing with this. Hopefully, I can be more confident when it comes to the muzzle area after this since you simplified it and all. <= )
No need to thank me :) I made this simple tutorial hoping that someone will someday have some use of it and I'm glad it helped you even a bit.
Well maintainting proper proportions and placement of the head elements can be tricky. That's why it's a good thing to use a circle for a head and a muzzle-box for a muzzle. It's still not that easy but using such "construction site" helps you maintain proportions. That's also why I usually use stick-men for drawing the entire characters :) I use them to make sure that the proportionas are right before I draw anything else.
Well it's just my way of drawing and it's not perfect by any means... I still hope to develop it further :)

Well when it comes to muzzles, I could certainly use any advice so that I can get somewhat decent with them. I do use the circle for head and box for muzzle but I always mess up with the nose and mouth. So when I saw this tut, after seeing how you handle them, I' thought I would try it out. ^^
And you're welcome. ^^

Sorry apparently I missed your comment and noticed it today. This tutorial is of course very short and simple. It shows only the basics. There is one crucial difference though. Most art books I've seen are like "much babble and little concretes"... They write essays... they write too much stuff which is unimportant. The most important are pictures... possibly MANY stages of a picture and some short important notes to remember.... Most art books have way too few stages and it's bad for beginners. The best art book is an anatomy book. They also lack in tips HOW to draw certain things and what to pay attention to... Sometimes I think they are to show "look how wonderful my art is!" instead of "look how simple it can be"
Nice to hear that it's useful :) And donations... if you don't have any money there, better don't say anything because it sounds odd... First of all I haven't given my paypal info anywhere, secondly if you had any money on your paypal account, you probably wouldn't say anything about it not to feel forced to send some. Next time better don't mention it at all... just an advice XD
Yes I know I could've sounded rude but I've seen that many times here at FA. Something like "I'd like to commission you, but I don't have cash at the moment" as an indirect way of asking for freebies... and it pisses me off when people say something even remotely similar :) So no offence, please.
No no, you didn't do anything wrong except that it's a better to say about things you are going to do instead of those you aren't XD... And don't worry, you're not a jerk ;)
The tutorial is quite simple. I can't figure it out because it's almost as popular as my porn arts which is pretty amazing XD.

I actually Eff'd my latest drawing up a little bit. I'm sure you'd see the flaws here and there if you ever decided to take a look. Then again, it was my first time using the pen tablet on photoshop without actually drawing the picture on paper, scanning it, tracing it on PS, etc.
On the other hand, this tutorial helped a lot, so you did a good job; however, I've yet to read all the comments here, and someone may have already said this: labeling what kind of ears, eyes, nose, muzzle, and brows would be good, that way we know what parts of the body belongs to whatever species. In other words, while we wouldn't have to use this to fully Master our drawing, we at least get the idea of the material so no one would mistake a wolf's head with cat ears. *winks* This is only coming from me with lack of identifications. *Head bangs the wall*
Other then that, I appreciate you putting the effort and setting this up and sharing this with all of us. Keep up the good work. :)

I took a look at your pictures however listing all the flaws won't help you much at this point. There are mistakes in almost every single part of your drawings. Don't get me wrong, please. I can't draw flawless pictures either but learning how to draw them takes a lot of time and you have to go through all stages before you reach the satisfactory level of skills. Use photos, pictures done by other artists and tutorials to learn more not only about techniques but also about the structure of objects. Then you can come for advice and I guess any artist could give you some. Still, before you get any valuable criticism you have to improve on your own, otherwise everyone would give you a whole bunch of things to correct and you wouldn't be able to fix them all. Remember - one thing at a time.
Well congratulations :) I encourage you to draw more with your tablet. It's different from ordinary paper but certainly cheaper in a long run :)...
Honestly, in furry fandom there are no strict rules how to draw each species. Certainly there are no rules for eyes. There are some for the overall head shape, ears and noses, as you said, however details belong to a certain style and you can find many people drawing them in various ways.
And of course thanks for nice words but it's really not necessary. I made this with intention of it being helpful and I didn't expect any gratitude from people :) The popularity of this tutorial alone is a gratitude for me :)

You're right about that. I have a friend that told me the same during my first furry convention (Wild Nights) last weekend. And I guess since I became nothing more than a part-time artist, it is a little bit harder to actually keep practicing often. But I am still confident that I will eventually get better at my drawings. Again, thank you.
"limbs" and "feet" btw XD... Sorry...
Right, you can't learn good ways of drawing every single part of a body at once, but still always try to put them together. It's great to be able to draw a hand or an eye but it doesn't mean you know how to make a full figure from these elements.

There is a bug... When you upload your picture it's automatically shrunken down, but if you edit it later, you can replace it with a new (larger) version, which is not resized. You just need to edit a submission. Don't overuse this bug. It's quite fine to make longer images than the maximal size, but making them wider will probably ruin the layout of the site. So if you want to upload large versions make sure that width isn't greater than the maximal allowed. Otherwise admins might not be pleased, and better don't use it for anything except thing that really HAVE TO be long.
I used this to help me get the general head shape before changing it up some to fit the goal species in [link = http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9346785 ] this [/link].
Dude, I commented on this 2 years ago when it originally went up as
kyuuketsuki and I STILL come back to this tutorial when I'm having trouble.

Several years ago, when I first started drawing, I came to find your tutorial.
Now, years later, after a long down period, I came back to find your tutorial again.
It helped me just as much now as it did way back then.
I've really gotta thank you for posting this up!
It's helped me a lot, then and now!

Tutorials are worthless actually, you need to strive for perfection and work. Just pick one thing to improve and start practising. If you have problems with faces, start from learning how to draw foundations for them... Never start drawing a picture without any basic construction. I mean some ellipses, boxes and so on. Otherwise it will be off and unproportional. You'll lose much time and get frustrated over your work.
Well naturally can't have mistakes, and it is always good to strive to better ourselves in what we do. My own art is pretty goods now cuz I never stopped drawing. things like this tutorial are always helpful maybe I can finally get my characters head to stop lookin like a canines. Not that there is anything wrong with canines my sona is sposed to be a rat XD
Ahh! I finally found it! Back when I started drawing furry art this was the tutorial that I followed! That was a few years ago at this point but I recently got my friend to start drawing so I can finally share this with him. Thank you so much for making this and helping me start on my journey as an artist!
