A bond is forced between thief and guardian. An obligation that the artifact seals. This, of course, angers the immortal guardian. Who's lonely existance has now changed to one of forced servitude.

This concludes the very short backstory of how Ajit meant Sanjaya. The tomb-raiding portion you can experience by playing any number of dungeon crawlers or stealth games!

Oh. It's just the guardian himself that's under the sway of the artifact. Doesn't affect anyone cept the person that it's bound to. Pretty much just a useless treasure that you can sell for a quick buck other than that. Why Ajit didn't just carry it on him instead of leaving it in a place is chalked up to the fact he's not quite the cleverest monkey out there. :3
