Trayton~ Full Quadsuit: Measurements and basic design.
So I took a cellphone picture of me with my hands ontop of a stool we have sitting around. It's just about perfect height.
Honestly for a Quadsuit design, my hands sit comfortably right below my knees (at about 16 1/2 inches off the ground).
I am looking for tips for making my first Fur/Quad suit.
Plz help me, here:

On that journal there is a list of links with some of my other sketches.

Hmm.... for a quad, id personally say try to use an elevated head, so that you are looking out of the neck, not the head. I say this because the quadsuits I have seen which have used this normal head method always (from what I have seen) ended up quite disastrous in terms of proportion and comfort.
I would go for something like this: http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&a.....+head#/d246ynv
Beastcub is the best quadsuiter I know. ^^
Also I do think the front paw should be a little bit shorter.
All the best in creating your suit.

Hm, Yes I am planning on eventually contacting Beastcub for help, because I really am a fan. Especially of the Sabertooth that was done.
I was thinking about doing the head like that, but what I plan on doing is having the suit. But then have 2 pairs of gloves. 1, for the normal digigrade fursuit.
2, for the quadsuit. (armstilts)
I know the head will be hard to manage like this, but I really don't want to make 2 heads. But if it comes down to that, I will. XD

Lol yeah I have heard of people wanting to do that, but the quality of the quad would then be quite degraded >< Thats the cheap way money and timewise. xD haha. I was considering it myself actually, but I decided against it. If I wanted to make a quad I would make new parts. :V
Hm, yeah.. but for my first fursuit anyway.. the quality won't presumably be great.
If I really enjoy making this one, I might start pursuing this as a possible career.. and maybe get better at making them, so then I can blur the line between digigrade, and quad. XD

I know I'm late to the meeting, but I thought even if this doesn't quite work, kira has a prototype to tweak. Since animal quadrupeds have a neck ligament (nuchal I think) holding their skulls, I wonder if a wire or string could be hooked up in the back of the costume head. Oh wait, you may need a harness under. It'd change the sight line.
Dunno if kira's gone ahead and made quadsuit mark 2. How fast can you walk with the stilts? Since animal tarsal and carpals are extended compared to human, this seems reasonable anatomy. But kira may get shoulder strain, may have to tweak the proportions. Giggles. Feel a dog to check.

This was one of the very first design phases I've gone through. Since then I've decided to not make Trayton a quad (I was working on a different anime cosplay fursuit for that one).
As far as the quad in general goes, most heads are set higher up. It does change the line of sight to out beneath their bottom jaw traditionally.
With practice, you can get some pretty good movement in arm stilts, that being said, if they aren't constructed correctly for your body it can cause severe strain on palms, shoulders, back, and neck. I've been working on developing a new form of arm stilt where most of the weight isn't on your hands (This would mostly be a change to positioning of the hand grips, and extra support, ideally across the chest or arm pit).
I'm sure if I could create some comfortable, lightweight, and correctly proportioned and supported arm stilts, I'd be able to practice running around like a dog.
