Okay...so, this is Reign's Halloween costume for this year. An urban skateboarder, one might say. A bit similar to his "psychic zombie vampire" 'costume' from last year ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2960411/ )...except replace his hoverboard with a normal customized skateboard and the "psychic zombie vampire" motif with something more...well, normal and ordinary. Wanted to make it easy on myself this year and have Reign dressed in clothes similar to what he normally wears, but different. And Reign likes to shred it no matter what, be it skateboard or hoverboard...or even just grindin' the rails using his own two feet. Can't say drawing this was a piece of cake...at all.
So...about his costume. Here's the rundown:
•Reign's usual goggles that sit on top of his head have been replaced with a customized pair of headphones for pumpin' out the tunes in his ears while he skates. They're a bit more old-school instead of the slimmer earphones of today, but they're wireless, so no need for pesky wires gettin' in the way of his ride.
•Reign keeps his usual spiked neck choker around his neck...but loses the spiked wristbands in favor of a green and orange striped bracelet, similar to what Phil DeVille wore in his appearances in All Grown Up on Nickelodeon
•The fingerless gloves he usually wears have been upgraded to include orange grip pads, just in case he needs to keep himself together while performing tricks and to make sure he doesn't end up taking nasty spills to the pavement.
•His black long-sleeved undershirt is customized, based on the Dark Chao design from Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. The shirt features the face of the Dark Chao, while the purple neckband and the hot pink sleeve stripes carry over part of the Dark Chao's color scheme. Figured it'd be interesting to test out a design for a t-shirt, and that worked out the best for his skater costume.
•Reign's rarely ever seen without his trademark open white collared shirt, so this time around he swapped it out for an open blue plaid collared shirt instead. While the general concept of him wearing a plaid shirt to begin with came from me, a close NSider friend of mine ended up illustrating Reign in his costume before I got the chance to flesh out the final product from the original sketch I drew that I showed him...so the plaid shirt design is credited to my friend. Boy was that a pain to replicate myself; it's not perfect but it'll do. Reign, you're never wearing plaid again so as long as I'm the one drawing you.
•His pants are slightly more baggy, with a gold wallet chain attached. Colored dark blue with hot pink lining. Yes, Reign is in fact manly enough to wear pink. It's crazy.
•Around his neck is a shark-toothed necklace. Gotta love the ocean, no matter where you're shreddin' it up.
•He's got an earring piercing in his right ear. Not much of a new attribute, but it's included because skaters look awesome with piercings. Just as long as they don't go overboard with it.
•His sneakers...well, I pretty much carried over the same pair he usually runs around in. Found it a bit difficult to come up with a new design for 'em to match the costume, so instead the only thing different about them this time around are the green and blue rings above the usual glowing design on 'em.
•Reign can't be a skater without a skateboard...so his skateboard has somewhat of a customized look to it. The text says "FLASH•WAVE", and the insignia above it is a combination of my Leo zodiac sign and the psychic symbol from the Pokémon trading card game...since Reign's psychic after all. The rest of the design is just filler. And Reign's skateboard doesn't have any supernatural or superhuman abilities...other than the fact the under part of it can glow. So yeah it's just a normal skateboard.
•Oh and...let's assume the bloodied and dirtied band-aids on his quills aren't exactly part of his costume, and more or less because he actually did take a slight spill while showing off. Moronically, I might add. Let this be a lesson to you, children.
The background was the toughest part for me, aside from the shading and the plaid shirt design. Saved it for last, and last minute I might add. So over the next few days I tried to toy around with a design since my original idea didn't go so well. So, it's urban skater meets Halloween. It's like a wall, with a mixture of skater elements combined with Halloween themes. Gotta full moon (with a skater insignia carved into it) and a spider on the right side, with a leafless tree underneath it. Then on the left side, you've got some lightning strikes and a fitting jack-o'-lantern design on the bottom. The overall red/purple color scheme sort of reflects Halloween and Reign's psychic nature. Thankfully I got some inspiration and ideas after looking at my revamped design of Koopser from last year (which I haven't shown off yet)...so that worked out for me thankfully.
Anyways...yeah, there's two versions of this. This is the original lighter version, and then there's the darker version.
Er...enjoy I guess. Took me this whole month to work on and finish, and go back again and again and fix things...and it was tougher to finish because of my fibromyalgia, so, eh, hope it was worth it despite the crudtasticness. :b
Happy Halloween!

Yep, precisely. That was part of my aim...so I'm happy you noticed it.
Same goes for the accessories; I was trying to go all out with the skater duds and theme. Can't ever seem to create a simple OC, it would seem to be the case with me. ^^;
Thanks for your feedback Arb, I appreciate it muchly.

Ooh...Alex you mean? He seems cool as is, but if that's what you're aiming for, never hurts to try.
I myself can't decide whether to make Reign's skater costume here a one time thing for Halloween or as a second alternative outfit apart from his usual duds...but...yeah.

I must say, it's refreshing to get some detailed comments on my submissions, especially from a new face. For that I thank you for taking the time out to do so.
Hah, yeah I was going for a Halloween/skating hybrid theme so I had to take the dominant skating theme and Halloween-ize it. I've been known for making my compositions really colorful and glowy with the way I stylize my art, so in a way it's become one of my signature approaches. I used to go somewhat overboard like using lens flares and "teeth-sparkle"-twinkle effects to make shiny objects stand out, but sometimes you grow enough to scale back the zaniness so it comes off as somewhat more controlled.
As for my character's design, this isn't his main outfit but even though it started out as a Halloween costume I kind of evolved it more so he could use it as a secondary getup if he ever wanted to.
Glad ya dig it, dude. Thanks a lot.

I know that feel. People actually writing comments that take more than 3 seconds to read?! What a concept!
Glad to hear you're not going for eye-bleeding color combos and lens flares everywhere. In regards to your character design, I assumed this was like, the "canon" design. Or something. It looks cool, anyway.

It's mind-defying. Haha, I actually use to write paragraphs-long comments on people's art back on NSider. Sometimes a four or five-paragraph long comment. I kind of became known for doing so which surprised a lot of people. I still do once in awhile nowadays though I try to remain realistic about time constraints. Still, it's refreshing.
Haha, yes, not like a sparkledog or your typical Sonic-type fan character. I try to just integrate a design that makes sense and not just for the heck of it. As within regards to Reign's outfit here, it's more of a somewhat detailed variation of his usual outfit--there's more examples in my gallery and through commissions I've received from people on deviantART. He still wears an open collared shirt and jeans, and the sneakers and gloves are pretty similar too.
