Maybe the herbs are some sort of amplification for the imbiber? Probably with side effects from abuse, might have given the little ankle biter the power to make a construct far more advanced then simply turning themselves into a rock and yeeting people.

Seems probable considering Mis' field of study. I wouldn't be surprised if she kept a stock of magic boosting herbs around

fen has used it to "transform" or it grow parts but never generated a full clone (though i think we've seen thus little fella before (or an least his species) when getting a discription of how hadain works. i distinctly remember a little critter using a shadow clone to help get food from a tree)

edit: oh wait my mistake fen did create a clone at one point though not of herself but i believe she did so unintentionally and didn't realize it as she was fantasizing at the time

You missed the part where she made 5 shadow clones of herself to gang bang a generous kitty as part of endurance training last chapter.

i think the difference was those where "puppets" she had to control individually well this is for all intents and purposes is an independent creature limited only by it's hadalen tether

That's the thing that caught my attention; it's doing its own thing while its original is out cold. The first time Fen made a clone was of Mis' in the stairwell, and it took so much concentration that it went poof when Fen orgasmed. With training Fen could make multiples and control them to gangbang the one kitty gal, and while doable it was strenuous (and a lot of fun from the looks of it).
THIS little guy is down for the count and its shadow clone is functioning completely on its own. That kind of skill could be of a big use for Fen in the future. And not just happy fun sexy times.

Or it's acting on the subconscious level. Its dream self is animating the shadow clone.
