A) It is an entirely new show made by one of the creators of Power Puff Girls (to simplify the explanation)

It's a good show, basically. I'm a guy; I've never had any particular interest in My Little Pony. However, I watched an episode of the new series on a whim and was really impressed. It's very much in the vein of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, but with the raucousness toned down just a hair and the Flash effects greatly improved. I don't like Flash all that much, but it's clear from this series that Faust has taken the medium as far as it will go.
The official story is that when the anonymous animator was placing the ponies, the frame of the shot was different and Derpy wasn't visible, so he gave her googly eyes as a joke. Then later on during development the framing of the scene changed, Derpy became visible, and nobody noticed her until it was too late.
And thus the legend was born.

WHY IS THIS SHOW GOOD?! Okay, admittedly there are other merchandise driven shows that are good, too. Most people are surprised that something called My Little Pony can do this (plus, from what I've heard, the first show was generic. Like, more generic than Transformers generic).

Just from reading the comments here, I can understand that A: while the question was asked, nobody really addressed it.
Also, B: The reason is that a new season may have started? Moreover, it is using the currently fashionable zany writing style?
This is cute, btw. I won't be watchin' no ponies, but it's adorable.

A little late, so you probably already know by now, but it stems from the new My Little Pony series that started last Fall called Friendship is Magic. A lot of people were caught off guard without how much they didn't hate the show, and in fact loved it. By word of mouth and a bunch of macros and fanart, it started spreading like wildfire.
if you can't get over the fact that the show is written and aimed at an audience that isnt -exclusively- little girls, then there is no hope for you either :3
also, a -very- large chunk of the fan base is male, including a great many that would otherwise "never be caught dead watching this crap" (or other such phrases, take your pic) but find themselves enamoured by the art style, comedy, and how well written the show is. This is a rare television show that actually breaks social boundaries and allows people of all genders and ages to find common ground and enjoy something -together-, something rarely seen anymore.
You not liking it doesnt mean its socially broken, it just means you don't like it and that's it :3
If you -have- seen the show already, then more power to you. You simply don't like it, oh well, at least you tried and that's all anyone can ask.
if you -haven't-, then please, don't be so assuming. because without actually watching the show, you don't really have any ground to stand on. An opinion in ignorance is one often ignored.
the choice to watch is ultimately up to you, though, and a great many of us in the fanbase will totally be fine with that. We preach love an acceptance amongst our fellow bronies, to hate is to ignore the whole point of the show ^w^
