It's a silly catch phrase from an old TV series I think. Basically, it means a naughty prank/carefree action with no consideration of what may happen to another.
Often done because the personality of the guy doing schenanigans is that they usually don't think what others will think because, well, in our case, they're food. In real life, it's usually like a tomboy or a trickster, looking to get a good laugh. It's usually done secretly, like, hiding behind a wall or looking through a glass window to see a guy fall for a trap. In our case, we're not so secret in our schenanigans, eating up all the peoples with our fun and games~
