“Oh! Good evening, Fluttershy.” Rarity smiled at her visitor from the door, tilting her head enough to shift her mane. “I hope you’ll forgive the mess. I wasn’t expecting company.”
The timid looking pegasus lightly pawed at the ground, averting her gaze. “I’m so sorry to stop by on such short notice, I just-”
“Oooh, no no no, not at all, dear!” Rarity took a step back from the frame, nodding for her guest to follow. “You’re more than welcome to join me. I was just doing a bit of organizing. I assume this means that you took care of that little trifle you were having as well?”
For a split second, panic consumed the pegasus, noting the grin that spread across Rarity’s lips. She maintained her composure, however, giving a subtle nod.
“Wonderful!” The unicorn glanced back, stifling a giggle. “Really, I’ll never understand how you can deal with so many animals at all hours of the day. Opal is enough trouble for me as is.”
As if on cue, the cat peered over the arm of a couch. There was a moment of eye contact before Opal arched her back and hissed, fleeing the room immediately after.
“Goodness! Opalescence, where are your manners? Terribly sorry, dear.” Rarity slowed to a halt in the center of her shop floor, turning her attention toward a few scraps of fabric. A soft glow enveloped them as she applied her magic, lifting them into a small box nearby. “So, what brings you by?”
The pegasus briefly rehearsed what she had planned to say, then turned toward her left wing, retrieving the small package turned beneath it. Doing her best to smile with a parcel hanging from her teeth, she presented it to Rarity. In turn, the unicorn arched a brow, smiling a bit herself.
“Oh? What’s this?” She gently tuged it from the winged mare’s grasp with her levitation.
“I, um... I found this earlier today, out in the meadow I usually visit. I don’t think it looks very good on me, but... well, I figured you would like it, so...”
Rarity appeared to be speechless at first. “Oh, Fluttershy... this is...” She lifted the amulet out of the box, her eyes sparkling as she looked it over. “And you just found this?”
Fluttershy stood transfixed as she watched Rarity undo the clasp and slip the chain around her neck.
“Well, whoever had the audacity to discard such a magnificent piece of jewelry, I’ll be sure to compensate for their foolishness.” She turned to the pegasus and smiled. The amulet’s weight settled against her neck as she released it. “Thank you very much, Fluttershy.”
Fluttershy returned her smile; the hard part was over. “Oh, it was nothing,” she replied, humoring her.
