Not quite. The phrase you're thinking of is a Zanpakto and they're from Bleach (awsome anime, by the way ^^ )

It's actually called a No-Dachi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No-dachi#References Wiki references it rather well, actually. Read up on it if you'd like!

But, in essence, it acts relatively like a Zanpakto. It has several release stages. It's sealed and with every released stage, a seal is broken to reveal another part of it's power. There are roughly 5 stealed stages in all.

I'd go on to explain more about it's power, but to reference it perfectly there's another picture in my gallery that would.

I simply can not get over the amount of detail and time you must have put into this drawing. The hilts of your swords are amazing! I really like the shuriken earrings, I'm going to need to bug my friends taking the jewelry class about making a pair! The way you did my hair and expression makes the image come so alive, too. I'm so, so flattered to be drawn by you again! I'm so looking forward to seeing it colored, too! My gosh, it'll be absolutely beautiful!
