Interesting. I never liked using the dodge/burn because it saturates the colors too much. I make a layer for lineart, then under that flat colors, and in between flat colors and lineart I make a layer with 34% opacity, Set to "multiply" layer mode, and I put all shading in with a soft round brush using a dark blue color. Highlights are added with a a normal layer, low opacity, light color (yellow, white, etc) and once in a while I'll use luminosity for certain things like shiny ribbons or eyes.

There are probably about 1.27 bazillion ways to do it but thankoo very much for showing us how you do it, because I was really curious to know! Your art has gotten to look so awesome lately and I was wondering what magic tricks you'd discovered. :) I'm going to mess around with these techniques. :)
