Well the TF2 halo thing. The charging 50 bucks for an expansion pack thing. The fact they haven't finished episode 3. The increasingly ridiculous TF2 gimmicks. All in all I am starting to view valve as a company that puts alot of effort into spectacular, well-designed disappointments.

The real reason the world ends in 2012: All of Valve abducted by aliens, including Steam servers. Worldwide, games become unplayable, and nerds riot. Later, Valve revealed to be in league with the aliens all along.

I still laugh at the halo thing, I mean my friends wonder why I got a halo when I ALSO IDLED for my stuff. and meh on L4D2 if it was an expansion Valve would make you pay for it still like how Garry's mod is now you gotta buy it

yes, but Gmod 10 is the first time they made you pay for it and it cost me about 15 bucks. The range of new stuff is decent, and I haven't heard plans of releasing Gmod11 yet

L4D2 costs a lot more than 15 bucks, had less new content, removed the PCs we liked (from what frined have told me who own L4D2, the new survivros aren't as interesting) and brought it some new zombie types that had origionally been planned for L4D1. ;)

the survivors from L4D arent that interesting either as that game was originally something else before it became L4D. Maybe its cause I'm from the south and have some connection to the L4D2 survivors than the L4D ones that are northern. I dont believe it should be an expansion but should cost a less that it first came out

I have to admit, I'm still on the fence about the Halo's... It was an amusing thing to rub in the 'cheater's' faces, but at the same time it was a bit over the top. On the other hand the system the people were cheating to get around was SHIT in the first place, so it's not surprising... but they were camping for the hats mainly, useless little tidbits that do nothing to your gameplay except make you a bigger target.


But yeah, Valve's developement branch lost my respect long ago with the milking of people for L4D2 (Still own L4D2: The-demo-you-paid-for) and the stupidity of the TF2 stuff. Give the demo a shotgun? No no! That would be too sencible for defending himself against close ranged attacks! Lets give him a giant sword with yet another terrible pun.

The problem was they flip-flopped on if the hats were cheating, actually saying it was 'cool' for a while, and allowing more people to use the system.. before deciding it was 'hax' and then warning everyone who was involved like they were on the same level of hackers and cheats.

The big issue I had was the people in the idle servers were the people who seriously wanted hats, and the (partially at least) less serious players got a hat instead. Also the drama of the halos was ridiculous. There were halo-only servers and no-halo servers and bans all over the place.

Yeah, people just love to have something to bitch about and hate. It's the human way.

It gets kinda sad when you have to slap people on the wrist and tell them to behave and play the game properly, like medics refusing to heal or uber people who did/didn't have halos. :|

The main problem was -not- people idling, but people using an external application that more or less pretended to log your account into a fake, steam connected server, which then put you into the 'lottery' if you will for the unlocked items.

Idling never was and likely never will be against Valve's policy - but using an entirely external application to bypass the system and exploit it was, and is. And should be!

I don't understand why. It made it seem like you were logged in. Technically server side you looked exactly the same as if you logged into a valid server and were just sitting in spectator(it was possible to get items in spec) rather than wasting valve and my own computer's resources on taking space in a real game, I just used a program that recreated something I could do in the program, no altering of the game code, no altering the probability of a drop.. the only think special about it was the announcement system.

It wasn't like speedhacking, or aimbotting. It didn't hurt anyone, in fact it made it simpler for Valve in a way. It also let me actually do shit with my PC instead of spending all my CPU time idling(on my old, shit rig) now that I have a spare PC it wouldn't be a big deal to just idle in TF2 on it, and get the exact same results as a 2meg program.

The program never 'bypassed' anything. It didn't 'exploit' anything, it just plugged your name into the drop system.

I'm getting pretty pissed off that they haven't finished episode 3 as well. First they delayed it for L4D, then they delayed it again for L4D2 to be released less than a damn year afterwards. GAH!

MFF is prolly the bestest though. I really loved it, it was big enough to be fun and meet alot of people without getting that terrifying sense of horde-i-ness AC brings.

Also the town was ok, sorta. At least it wasn't a dying husk of a metropolis like Pittsburgh.

Both are on my list of possibilities :3
I've heard good things about both and I really wanna try a few new cons.

I would recommend MFF over furfright, although furfright might be better next year. When I went(2 prior) it was very small and really just sorta a local con(I hitched a ride there), it was also my first con. It's seemed less magical after every other con I went to. I am only going because I can drive there in like 3 hours, so I don't need to take a whole week off work for prep/afterglow.

I am closer to FA:U, FA:U is sooner, and I liked it more. Honestly I hated pittsburgh. It was too expensive(the room, the con itself, the food) and I have had more fun at other cons. The size of the con is just too overwhelming for me. I think I hid it well but it really stressed me out being so far from my hotel room and any amount of privacy every time I went to the dealers den, or to a panel. I spent alot of time in the zoo, which I loved, but I was also watching the clock constantly and staying stuck to my ride because the thought of walking through such a shitty city in the dark terrified me.

I ment if you were close to Pittsburgh I could try to come in early/stay late and we could meet up for the day. I know you said at MFF you were considering not going to AC because it was so huge. I know the New MFF location is fantastic, I have been to 4 cons there before (ACEN) and everything is connected to everything :3

If I have to wait that long to see Bloo then I have to wait :<

I am in massachusetts. IT's a long drive to AC, FA:U is under 10 hours, which isn't great but more within my comfort range.

I thought you were close to Pittsburgh.... That must have been someone else...

Hopefully my drive to AC withyear will be shorter as I dont have to go from north of Chicago -> Cincinnati -> Pittsburgh (I drove Melna last time... totally out of my way but I was his only option, :>)

When TF2 came out they said a key tenant of the game was to never introduce a weapon or mechanic that limits the players ability to move.

Since Natascha they have decided to drop that tenant, and honestly I thought it was one of their smartest choices.

They didn't need to make something that can stun people though.

Portal 2 is the last shining glimmer of hope that i hold in my heart for Valve. Although, while I do enjoy L4D2 I was definitely disappointed by the pricing/content ratio.

I fear that valve is going to become the next EA...

Stereoscopic 3D is going to take off in a big way. Solid State Drives will finally be affordable for sizes that work for people's computer needs (60 gig for $100-150). Project Natal is going to be a disappointment. OLEDs are going to be the in feature for phones. I will have over 20 TB of content before the year is out.
