Contest is ending on midnight of the 31st!
Tis Over. Special thanks to all those who entered <3
It's that time of year again~ I'm getting a year older :\
But that give me an excuse to be an art whore again! Not going do the birthday theme again. This time;
Jack vs. Francis.
The theme is simple. Something that has Jack and Francis competing or an image of Jack or Francis showing off what they can do better than the other.
While I'm whoring for either Jack or Francis, feel free to add your own characters to the mix~
Rules?
Must be at least inked featuring either Jack or Francis, no scat, no guro, no necro. Otherwise, please have fun and be creative :3!
Making it last two months this time~ Deadline is the end of FWA, which is the end of march.
Please email all submissions to my email bluedragon476[at]gmail.com as I really want to post them on my gallery, with proper linkage of course~ But feel free to post them on your FA to help promote this contest :D
Prizes!
Not doing the video systems this time. Just cash prizes~
1st, $150
2nd, $100
3rd, $75
4th, $50
5th, $25
Judging will be done like last time, me and a panel of judges~
Now please use the the text character descriptions. You can use whatever you have seen of Jack and Francis from my Favorites and Gallery, but using the text description will be better for your chances of winning :3

I might give this a go, depending on my schedule. :3
oh, and i can't view francis' bio for some reason...
like a race, or who has the biggest .... HEAD!
^_^ or who has the best fasion, which would be really hard to decide, they both wear the same thing...
>get more than 150 bucks in drawings
>pay 150 bucks to one person, dispite getting art from many people
>trollface
"draw my character" art contests are always a con.
at least there isn't an entry fee like in dog contests and the like.
if you don't feel like entering a /contest/, with the chance of not getting anything for your drawing, that's up to YOU.
Some of us just like the fun of a competition. One person purchasing a commission lets the artist know the opinion on that one purchaser. This contest is judged by a number of people and gives satisfaction along with the prize money.
Those entering just have to look at it like gambling. it's something fun to do and you might luck out with some skill that you can win...
The House ALWAYS wins.
The rewards being handed out are, depending on the compentency of those entertering, nowhere near as much as the prize being handed out.
Then again, it depends on the turn-out, I suppose. If only a few people enter, then it's whatever. But should more than, say, 10+ people enter, Bakasaka is getting a -lot- more than he is putting in.
It isn't an individual who is getting conned, it is the sum of all the players. Remember that.
Every time I see "your comment has been replied to" in reference to this "contest", I expect to be called a troll or something.
So let's look at this case. On the one hand, we have a bunch of artists, which according to the ad should be bored and looking for an excuse to draw. What do they have to gain? A modest sum of money that they likely WON'T see, potential reputation+, and the opportunity to sharpen their skills in a competetive environment. In the end an individual must decide for themselves if that is a worthwhile endeavor. What the host has to gain is irrelevant, but let's look at it anyway. A whole bunch of art depicting his characters, from mostly amateur level artists, and only on the vague theme of a competition (ironically enough). Not like a true commission where he could ask for whatever he wants. It's a mixed bag.
So is this a con really? Of course. In the context that everything is essentially a con. But it is really a rather innocent one in my opinion, or at least not as actively malicious as the lottery. There is no cover charge for entering, the hosts gain is unpredictable, and this is a furry art contest on a furry art site... Meaning most of the participants were likely to draw something anyway. It's not really draining any extra resources, and drawing something on demand as oppose to your own whim, can arguably have an experience benefit (a small one but whatever).
A DISCLAIMER. I am not trying to tell you to shut up or call you a troll or anything, just the opposite. I am a huge advocate of free speech, and in fact, rather liked your comments on the journal. People should always challenge each other on things. I was just inspired by your posts to respond... Because. This is the internet. Sometimes a man just needs to argue. Or at least post something more meaningful then "lol." Sometimes.
TL;DR - Life is a con.
It's more like a talent show.
It's just like a talent show. Do you consider talent shows with prizes "con"s too?
In a talent show, people put to use a skill which is not ussually used to make any money, one that often doesn't produce semi-permanent, marketable results. As a result, talent shows, why capable of being cons, aren't always as such.
This form of contest is, however. It is tantamount to one person saying "Lets have a give me money contest! Whoever gives me the most money wins! I will give them back 10% of the money I make while keeping the remaining 90% myself."
It is more of a lottery than a talent show in this way.
In short, The contest holder has found and enacted a way to easily get a lot of commissions without having to pay for each, instead only paying a few. These few being the rather predictable, well honed artists who can sometimes swoop in on such things.
But meh... what do I really care. One person could demand a dollar from everyone in the world, and become immensly rich while the populous at general wouldn't suffer severe loses. Same thing I guess.
I still think it is foolhardy to enter into such a contest, though.
"Never, Mr. Chu, I expect you to reason!"
/weak Bond reference
By entering the contest, you are implicitly agreeing to the premise of attempting to win more than your art would otherwise be worth, not by rolling the die, but by doing a better job.
If you think you're not good enough to win, AND your only objective is to win, then the solution is to not enter. Of course, there's also to consider the fact that this contest is actually being advertised on FA's ad rotation, and so even a 'loser' can 'win' free publicity for their gallery just by participating. Plus, some artists who are just looking for something new could see it as a new thing to draw.
A "con"(fidence trick, as is the full 'traditional' term) is by its very definition deceptive. There is no deception here. One more reason the label is unfair.
I will admit that if there are 50 entries, each worth about $20, then yes, the host is getting far more than he risked, and the mere 10% of entrants getting any money back at all should count themselves quite lucky.
It would be a "con" if he was guaranteed to get substantially more value than he's paying for. As there is no such guarantee, and nothing in the contest to require such a return (e.g., >20 entrants), the host is taking at least as much risk as the entrants are. He could end up with 10 stick-figure drawings for his $400. There's no confidence that he'll get a lot of quality entries. At best, it's a gamble for both sides. I believe that's far from a "con" in the sense you describe.
My bet is that he will not get a return on his investment, but the top few winners will. Possibly all 5. Rather the opposite of a con. Care to wager on that? ;)
I honestly stopped seeing why I should care if people get conned. As you said, life is a gamble.
The stupid gamble pretty hard. The intelligent size up the give and take of any such transaction.
Life doesn't have to be as much of a gamble as some people make it, sir, with a little thought.
I assure you that I attempt to make sure that, in most things, the odds are in my favor.
I salute you for being more risky and less caring in the potential outcomes of your endeavors.
I think it's because I'm too afraid of being heart broken if I don't win! XD
adults ok?
and danke for the watch <3
Jack : http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1958979/
Francis : http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3361325/
Soo... it just has to involve both of them, or are they susposed to be fighting in some way? *is curious*
It seems you're accustomed to Jack and Francis in quite a pornographic manner. Do folks who wish to do clean art have any chance with your panel of judges?
An art competition =/= life. Come on.
For now, I am skeptical about this..I hate seeing people getting ripped off via trades/contests/commissions/etc.
This is not the first year I've done this. Though it is only the second. I gave away an Xbox360 and a DS last year. Didn't have time to pick up systems this year, so going with cash. Everyone who entered last year got a shirt. (I don't have shirts this year... sorry D:)
I understand you have seem other being ripped off, perhaps been a victim yourself as well. I, as you can see, am an art whore, see my sketch books that I've commissioned artist at conventions. While I have many of those, I have done very little online commissions with artist I don't know because I've been burned before. The last thing I would do would be to pass that feeling of disappointment to others.
I assure you. As an Asian man, my sense of honor forbids me to rip people off.
:3
But I'm still going to pretend you said "as a Klingon man" instead because I think that's funnier.
i might need to ask someone else to use there pay pall, and get it from them if i win anything at all... i tryd to get my self a paypall account but it didn't except my card and when i tryd again it say it already existed... >.<
Sounds like a challenge to me. ^^
... tempting.
my entry!!
*senses a troll in this topic* >n>
Will finish my pic ASAP. ;3
Is there a limit to the number of times we can enter? Can we only enter one piece?
*is drawing*
How are these pics going to be judged? You say it's judged by you and a panel, but I'm sort of wondering how they will go about determining who's is the "best"? Like, will the pics be judged more for the idea and creativity, or more for artistic skill, or what? Thanks.
I'm new here, and looking at the contest, the entries, the favs...don't know what to draw! :S
In the description both characters are herm...but wich part of wich sex does they suppose to have? (specially the face...they have male names and allmost all the drawings look like females u_u') and does it have to be sexual related?, can't be more general audience drawings? xD
Don't you have official drawings?
It doesn't have to be adult~ as seen by the entries thus far, most are tame stuff~
I don't have official reference sheet yet~
Thanks for the reply!, I'll be uploading my entry soon ^^
No matter what quality, since you're accepting adult entries, the PG is definitely going to lose.
So yeah no thanks
Second, this contest is judged on quality, not adult content.
But, you can do as you wish~ :3
PS. Jack is also slightly upset that you misspelled hir name but understands that might be a simple typo.
Nevermind.
I might or might not enter. Gonna see how much time I have and if I feel like it XD
nobody made this stink when Brokenwing gave away a laptop as a first prize, with no first prizes below it-.
i personally look at the whole thing as a chance to do art that i might not otherwise do- get practice, and possibly get money.
practice in and of itself is more than worth entering, and the possibility of money is just an added bonus- and, on top of it all, this man gets something that I may otherwise have drawn for myself-
it is a win win, with the possibility of a win win-win, a win-win win, or a win win-win win-
now, clearly, if you're entering to win, then it's probably going to be a lose-win if you don't. . . well, win, but it's still a risk that YOU took, and mister bakasaka her eis not forcing you to do anything.
That is all.
Nice contest though, doesn't seem like a scam if you enjoy drawing. If you are only in it for money, complaining about this contest then don't enter, simple as that. Either way, yay for march almost over!
I wonder if I have enough time to draw up an entry... Well, can't hurt to try, right?
Good luck with your copyright registration!
put your picture , designs in an envelope, seal it tightly with void tape, then post it to yourself.
Then you always have that as evidence as it contains the date from the post office :D
