WORK HAS RESUMED FOR HIGH TAIL HALL 2! I am sorry this has taken so long to get a post out but myself, Tyvara and the studio have been displaced for over 2 months.
I will have Pics and game updates out within a few weeks and hopefully much new video by the summer of 2010.
DVD NEWS
A lot of work still needs to be done on getting the DVD produced and finalized. I know it has been A FUCKING BAGILLION YEARS since i started taking pre orders but I can assure you a product is coming.
I am sorry but at this time I can not give a solid release date.

I feel a disappointment coming on... Can you update us? Did the Frankenstein MIII crash?
due to the fact it has been well over 2 years, I doubt he has even STARTED on people's commissions. I can tell you what is gonna happen. The deadline will pass with no update, he won't post a journal until 3-6 months later with some claim of bad luck and a not so subtle hint for money. He has been doing that for several years now, and when I am right, will you quit kissing his ass and see the truth?
But to answer your raised point, Yes it is disapointing that Crow has yet to give us any indication that the DVD and the commisions have made any progress at all. (that I am all for bitching about since they are paid things) All I am saying about High Tail Hall 2.0 is we can't bitch because its a free project and nobody has paid him for it.
Personaly I would rather he knuckle down and work hard on getting the DVD and the commisions done before he updates High tail hall. but who knows what is going to happen from here on out. All we can do is hope that we will get an update soon explaining all.

it has been 2 years, no demos of the dvd at all, odds are he hasn't even started on it.
I'm CERTAIN that even if he did not get back to you about a refund before, he will be more than happy to take care of that, if you are still interested in getting a refund. It'll just be a little more difficult since he can no longer use his Paypal account.
I'd suggest emailing him directly and make sure to provide:
1. Whatever name you used when you ordered the DVD
2. The email address your payment was sent from (so he can match up the records)
3. Your real name and current mailing address, so that he can send you a money order or something.

He is a flake, vainishing for months at a time, resurfacing only when the outcry has reached the point to where he faces a civil complaint. Honestly, to those waiting for refunds, take him to small claims court, see if he will even show up.

Unless you (the haters) have created something just as good, or better than what Crow has done with the first HTH and is trying to do with the new HTh, then you have no right to complain. At its core, your argument is "You shouldn't criticism someone about X unless you can do X better." X represents any activity one might partake in.
Now, following this general format, lets substitute X with some real life examples:
1. If someone asks you about a movie you recently saw, you shouldn't voice any negative opinion on the movie unless you can make a better movie yourself.
2. If your brand new car breaks down 2 weeks after you purchase it, you shouldn't be upset unless you can build a more reliable car yourself.
3. If a hardware component in your laptop or desktop fails, you shouldn't be upset unless you can make a better component yourself.
4.If your favorite team looses the Superbowl, you shouldn't be disappointed unless you could win the Superbowl yourself.
5. If your food is not cooked right at a restaurant, you shouldn't complain unless you can cook the food better yourself.
You see what I did there? I could keep going, but hopefully everyone gets the point by now. Not everyone is an artist, just as not everyone is a mechanic, a cook, a technician, etc. Just because someone does not have the same skill sets as someone else does not mean they can not voice a negative opinion on said skill set. Art or "making porn games" is no exception to this.

We are thankful that Crow has done great work in the past. We all felt bad when the original HTH studio was burnt down and we understand that meant all sorts of delays and personal problems. But the fact of the matter is. When you make a post saying that some sort of update will be given at some sort of time, then you should keep that promise. Even Open Source projects under then GNU give better updates and YES they are free.
Also as a business aspect does it look good for you if you client sees you as a procrastinator or someone who cannot get things done on time? I was going to as for a commission but seeing as how things are, I don't feel like waiting several years to just see the line art.
Also as for Steelwings. Your theory is completely ignorant. If you EVER complain about anything in your life, then you are a complete hypocrite. You cannot be blindly optimistic about an artist that is frequently late on updates and breaks promises with Sob Stories.
Well, I cannot say I am surprised. I acknowledge that he does not have to update, it is HIS work. I would just say that if he wants support from his fanbase he should probably throw a bone to them every now and then. Nothing big. Fixing broken links. Uploading a few new pics. He might even avoid annoying people if he were more specific in where he is having trouble and what he is working on (level of completion) Again, he does not have to update, but when you say you are going to update on such and such date, then it is just a little bit insulting. But what are ya gonna do about it. Disappointing.

Yes it is obvious that the reason the paypal won't work is because he has not been keeping any of his deadlines and has just kept taking money, so people complained. I'm glad I didn't preorder anything from Crow, he has proven to be far too unreliable in keeping in touch. Say what you want, but you can't ignore the fact that Crow only posted because his paypal scheme had been found out, not because he was just working on the game. I don't know about any of you, but something doesn't feel right about this journal entry at all. Again, WE are NOT pressuring him to do anything on a deadline, Crow is telling US the deadline he set for HIMSELF. By not meeting it, and also not making an entry as to what happened, he is leaving us to wonder what the hell he is doing.
As for saying that he doesn't owe us anything, I would disagree concerning HTH. He does owe us the decency to tell us why he is trying to do so much and not having a focus on HTH, the Rio DVD was supposed to be a side project. It doesn't matter to me if Crow wants to spite me by updating HTH soon after I type this because I've exposed him, like some others have done, out to be what he is, someone who doesn't give a shit what his own fanbase says as long as he can keep stealing from them, making deadlines and not meeting them, having no explanation for months or years, and updating majorly one time in a year. I might come back and see what happens maybe 6 months from now, probably not much. I've had two jobs before, I've been in this situation Crow is in, and I did have time to get on the computer and the internet so stop kidding yourselves and believing everything Crowchild says is true.

You should really try to accomplish the goals you set for yourself and, to be honest, you shouldn't charge anybody one red cent for an unfinished project, now or ever. That isn't how an artist is supposed to work.

He's been stealing money for years and I wonder what he will do now. I just don't even care anymore. I knew something was up when he wouldn't do anything or say anything at all for FUCKING YEARS.
He's not a "scam artist". He just took on a number of big projects and got slammed by life in the midst of it... and has a crazy number of fans and watchers who are seriously rabid for updates to his work, regardless of whether or not they paid for the Rio DVD preorders or commissions. MOST of the people complaining have not paid anything, and really have no reason to be causing a fuss.
That said, Hopefully he'll be able to update soon. I know that I'll do everything in my power to help that process.
I don't see why it's not possible for him to post a little every now and then, because it only takes a minute. The fact is, he should've been settled months ago, and if he isn't yet (for God knows what reason), he should just say it instead of constantly shitting on the people he owes and the fans who support him.
I know you're his friend, but I'm sure even you can see he's being a d-bag.
The problem is that yes, the work that is owed (which does NOT include HTH2 game updates) was an arrangement for money, and could be seen as a professional obligation-- but if the artwork is not the sole source of income, a person's "regular" day job can easily take priority of time and sanity. His current job has him away from home constantly, on the road. Without a working laptop, he's dead in the water as far as art goes, because most if not all of it is digitally rendered. We've been working on building a desktop system for him, but even then, he'd only be able to use it at home, when he's actually there. His laptop is his ONLY computer at the moment, and believe me, that thing was trucking along, but it's not surprising that it's giving him major problems now. It's seen better days, and has gotten a LOT of use. I believe he is working on getting a new laptop, but they do take time to save up for... and when you've got apartment costs and utilities and car issues and food and such, it can take awhile.
Demanding private details and disclosure of his life is unnecessary. The fact that he still wants to finish his projects, despite the controversy and problems, should mean something-- at the very least that he's not giving up. He has great plans for his work and deserves to see his visions through, even if it takes longer than others would like. His most recent game updates (the choppy, unfinished, un-spell-checked, problematic HTH2 game updates) are examples of what happens when there is pressure to update just for the sake of updates. He uploaded the updates before we could beta test them, and everyone was just confused and disappointed. Let the man work (when he CAN). Stuff is on the way, you just have to be patient.
i know he's got personal shit to deal with, but the fact is that it takes minimal (in the most MINIMAL sense of the word minimal) effort to update and this makes him look like a con-artist with the utter lack of posting. He probably would've kept more commissions, kept his fans satisfied, and wouldn't have dragged his name through the mud.
All he has to say is "hey, nothing yet, I'm alive, tons of work, deal". and we'd be cool.
Unless the difference would be that you'd prefer he just not mention any time goals that would only get your hopes up?
The frequency issue, I believe, is and has been largely a matter of his level of access to the internet. You cannot assume that he has access at all times, or even at most times. People go without internet. People have simple cell phones with simple plans that don't necessarily offer browsing options. Internet costs money. He hasn't been online chatting, he hasn't been faving or commenting on people's stuff, it's not like he's having a grand time on the internet and just hasn't seen fit to update his commissioners-- he's out in the real world, not constantly spending time on a connected machine.
Even if that isn't completely the case, you still have to accept the fact that real life is more important than the internet, and not everyone is in a position to run to a computer/webphone and update their fans or even their friends every time something happens, or doesn't happen, or at all on a regular basis.
But the rest is true. While access to the internet can be found everywhere (largely free in public places - libraries, etc.) it's cool if he's just lost his enthusiasm and it never gets finished. Life trumps hobby - I know that. He's allowed to not do this stuff.
And also, can we all just get over this? Yes people got ripped off, but that's life; learn from it. Its all just porn anyway, right?
There is seriously NO REASON to be upset in this situation. Disappointed, maybe, but if you've paid for something, and don't want to wait, then ask for a refund, and you will get it, and not have to worry anymore.
Quit trying scully, trying to back up crowchild for his lies, and constant movement so he doesn't have to pay back these people is fucking retarded, no-one knows where he lives now, and if they did, these people would be GETTING thier money BACK.
I find it VERY difficult to believe that if people had contacted him directly and clearly asked for a refund, that he wouldn't have done it, but given the amount of attention his stuff gets, it's not that hard to imagine a couple of messages slipping through the cracks.
Still, I'm going to be very curious now, since Crow should have a list of all the people who paid (and with any luck, those who were refunded)... if the people complaining about things have actually paid. I'll have to ask him :)

Lol. I preordered the DVD back in fucking 2007. Asked for a refund in early 2008. I never got it. Crowchild I believe you really are working on your little game, but PayPal rejected your "business" because people like me complained. You're unprofessional and your journal updates are disrespectful to those of us still foolish enough to wait. If you're going to update, then update... If not, then it's better to leave us in the dark.

That example is only ONE specific claim that they were never refunded, but it ALSO states that they contacted him in early 2008, which is right near when Crow was moving across the country. It doesn't say if they tried to contact him more than once or more recently. I know that in theory, people shouldn't have to ask more than once, but not pursuing the issue implies apathy and if they reported him after only one attempt to contact him? That's pretty passive-aggressive.
I'm not going to quit, because I believe in him, and I KNOW for a FACT that he's not a deadbeat artist.

I'm a Video Editor, I sometimes recieve donations, and you know what I do? I always make damn sure to pay that person back in said video. I don't sit there for years, and do NOTHING, if I did, I would have people at my front fucking door reading to cave my fucking HEAD in.
Unfortunately, your testimony is only hearsay. You don't know for a fact that the individuals you've spoken to have truthfully exhausted all means of communication in their attempt to reach Crow. You don't even know if they really did order things from him in the first place.
It's admirable that you're attempting to stick up for those people that feel slighted, but the thing is that trying to convince me I'm wrong isn't going to change the situation. I know what I know. And I know Crow personally, in real life.
I DID go to that poster you mentioned, and gave him my best advice as far as getting a refund back if he still wants one. Anyone who has come to me asking about Crow, I have helped to the best of my ability.
If people have tried to contact Crow about refunds or updates in the past and got no reply, then they have to try again. And they have to make sure their requests are clear and organized. It would help the most if their emails contained all information pertinent to the transaction, ESPECIALLY if they've changed usernames/email addresses/mailing addresses in the last two years.
It may not be an immediate reply, because as stated, Crow has been extremely busy with his real life job, and his computer is practically toast, but Crow WILL get back to them as quickly as he can. Being patient and considerate is more likely to get results than being negative and/or aggressive. He's not trying to screw anyone out of money, the projects have just taken much longer than he anticipated due to his day-to-day life.

You actually can't read, the guy above stated he tried contacting him about it in 2008 BEFORE he had to start moving constantly.
So you're saying he's been extremely busy with work, and has had no time to work at least half an hour a day on art in the past two years? Especially when he has someone with him? These people have never gotten a reply from crowchild, even checking e-Mail takes a few minutes, and believe it or not you can MAIL money in the mail.
Being patient and considerate loses it's meaning after TWO fucking years of constant "Oh I'm doing it now, oh in a month, oh, it'll be within three weeks." especially when crow child's status for the commisions hasn't even changed.
But let's run it down like this.
#1 Rio DVD, at least 300 people paid a fuck load of money, and I doubt an eighth of them got thier money back, as people ON THE SHOUT ITSELF have been stating.
#2 The commisioners, who i've spoken to, and the ones who have tried getting thier money back, this is REAL fucking money we're talking about, they won't try just once and give up, lest you forget we've been in a Global Resession for the past 6 years. These people I don't doubt have try at least a dozen times.
#3 The fact he keeps "promising" stuff he CAN'T deliver on, and has failed to make 95% of the dead lines he's made. I work my ass off too, and I happen to WORK 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, and guess what? I STILL find time to fill people's requests. Yeah, that's only two hours a night. From 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
#4 the strange fact that he's seemingly had to move constantly, regardless of the fact he works more than any normal human being, and should be more than capable enough to pay bills on an apartment by himself, but the strange part is, where's his girlfriend in all of this? They do live together right?
That in itself should already imply he should have more than enough time after an eight hour work day. That is unless he's like me, and is an Insomniac?
Longer than he anticipated doesn't imply damn near two years, even my commissions aren't laid back near that much, at most a week. Also, if he wasn't trying to screw people out of money. then why do people who bought the DVD years ago, and the commissioners keep asking for thier money back?
Your "Advice" Isn't as good as you think it is. Considering the fact that if the advice was good, it would have gotten around, and we wouldn't be having this conversation, people here have even told you your advice isn't going to work.
2.5ish years ago with the Rio DVD, and those people still havn't gotten thier money back, that's at least 2K right there. By the way as the whole time constraint thing is mentioned, I recently returned from Afghanistan where I spent 6 months, and I talked on the phone to my major family/wife weekly, and sent and recieved emails on a daily basis working 7 day straight 12s, which turn into 13/14s, volunteering most of my off days in the trauma unit. He has no excuse, he's an adult. Now that I'm back home I work 9 > 12 hours a day, 5-7 hours a week and skype with probably one close friend almost every day, hit up facebook on the go and email.
He's either a child or a con man.

Many people who preordered the Rio DVD have replied to Crow's various journals in continued support of the project-- and have stated specifically that they don't need refunds because they are content to wait. Since the DVD will be finished, there is no need to refund *everyone*. But, anyone who wanted a refund was welcome to ask. I was just pointing out that sometimes it takes more than one attempt to get someone's attention, and that including the proper information in the request is very important if they want to speed things along.
This discussion has been giving me ideas for other ways to help Crow, though, which is a good thing. Hopefully it will benefit everyone in the process.

We haven't always been able to get a hold of him, because of the time difference and the fact that we all work different schedules. Sometimes we'll go weeks or months without hearing from him. But, we ARE in contact with him. I talked to him just a couple of days ago. When we are able to send him his new computer, he should be more in contact with us AND everyone else, and be able to do more work on all of his owed projects. I know what it's like trying to process graphically intensive files on a dying laptop, and it's not fun at all.

1.) Actually, I told you to go to the shout so people who don't feel like going into the journals can actually tell you to your FACE they aren't getting shit for thier money.
2.) Only a few people have done that, you failed to realise ten times this ammount want thier money back, and as you tried saying they only did it once, which that in itself is false. They've tried for TWO YEARS, and not a fuckin thing was done. Luckily Crow moved huh? Two years Scully, TWO YEARS. No-ones PC/Laptop breaks down that fast unless you're using an Alien Ware, and I doubt you have 6K to throw around, which is the base price for an AlienWare. I can tell you right now, I don't even HAVE a Graphics Card anymore since it melted INTO THE FUCKING MACHINE, and it still runs better than a laptop...I love irony...

If I remember correctly he's aiming for 40+ minutes runtime (more then both of mine put together) and keep in mind he's also been updating HTH 2 all this time. Having done what he's done, I'd stick with the "slaving" comment. It takes a helluva lot of work, and I'm sure his day job is a lot more time and energy then most of us can fathom.

It's one thing to promise an online flash game update, but when you promise something in exchange for money and don't come through, that's when the community blows up in your face and shit hits the fan. If that was a bank he owed money to, they would have confiscated his house, his bed, his car, and even his little computer that keeps "breaking." As for the game itself, it's still not okay to say that "I will be updating the game within three weeks," and then not say anything after breaking your promise for the umpteenth time. It's like saying to your friend, "Hey man, I forgot that book you wanted back in my car, I'll have it for you tomorrow," and then fleeing the country, getting a fake ID, and then having plastic surgery so you friend won't recognize you.

I personally don't like it when someone says 'This will be done on X day,' however, when X day arrives and the thing isn't completed, they offer no explanation. Crow is pretty horrible at doing this and it grates my nerves, but I ain't losing any sleep over it or anything. Plenty of other artists get their work done fine or at least try to keep their fans happy.

YES, what he's doing is illegal. He took money for a good/service and hasnt produced it, and refuses to give the money back. THeres no evidence he's even worked on it for like over a year now, how do we know he isnt sitting at home playing COD all day and jerking off laughing at all you guys?
Finally.... ive worked flash, a lot. It doesnt take 2 years to finish a game. a talented flash artist could do what hes done so far in a month of spare time if given the images. ANd ive watched him draw, the images dont take a lot of time either.

So, even if he does, finally, come though for them, who the hell is going to be willing to buy anything from he again. Face it, after 2 years of nothing and so many pissed off people, no one on FA that's knows a damn thing about him will every buy anything from him. The few people that just might are sympathizers who keep themselves as up to date as possible on crow's actual life, and I bet most of them would be reluctant to throw money at him.
