That's MY gist of what WACOM stands for atleast.
In an attempt to save some of my 'sanity.' I'm trying to get my laptop to run photoshop and my tablet. Except I forgot that the company who makes Wacom tablets, and the guys who make their drivers have never met each other. Ever.
Those who don't know, Wacom tablets (the thing I draw on) usually function like a mouse without their driver software. Wacom's online drivers (CD was only for XP) pull a magic trick and change it from a mouse- into nothing! :D...
And let's get this out of the way - Yes, Vista. Came with the laptop, and I'm trying to learn it so I can properly hate it. With that said:
plug in, then install drivers, then reset
(uninstall&unplug/restart)
install drivers, then plug in then reset
(uninstall/unplug/restart)
plugged in and let windows find drivers(lol)
(uninstall/unplug/restart)
etc etc
All iterations and tests resulted in the same: The message box of:
a supported tablet was not found on the system
when I tried to open the pressure sensitivity / config menu
To sum up: Anyone using an Intuos 3 tablet with Vista? If so. HOW. ; ~;
PS: I LOVE how everything of Wacom's is so goddamn bland and of no effort. All of their installation windows and menus look like something from pre-Win95, and their main site -- It's like minimalistic without style.. that tries to blind you..
PPS: Typing while one eye is covered is just unintentionally awesome- your vision slips into this weirdass pseudo-3D effect after a while XD
wow that was random.

On my XP system my Cintiq has pretty much been running flawless.
Also, Genius seem to work right, but no idea regarding Wacom.
So yeah. Minor problems in two years, none at all in about 1.5 or so.

That page is SFW, the rest of the comics are not.
You sure you didn't just grab the wrong ones, or are Bamboo, Graphire, etc. working on the same drivers as Intuos now?
http://www.wacom.com/downloads/driv.....ail.php?id=214
Never got that one to work (on either laptop or main), but when my new one came in and showed similar problems on the laptop, turned out it was my Norton blocking the installation process. Turned off the AntiVirus software, reinstalled, and now it works like a charm.
Desktop gaming rig that just died (XP)
Laptop that I use for social interaction (browsing, YIM, FA) (VISTA)
This is one of those "Well why not upgrade to 7 to get your tablet to work" with the answer of "I shouldn't have to." (currently CCleanering the fuck out of the registry just to be sure)
I'm just sayin'. But I know that it's a pain in the arse to not have something work with Vista.
I use an Intuos3 and Vista on my desktop and do not have a single problem. Something about laptops seems to make the OS angry though :(
They took the Youtube approach with vista: "As soon as people are comfortable with something, fuck with em."
I had the Same problem, and what I found out is that you have to use an older driver. I'm not sure which one I used, like a 2000 driver or something like that. It doesn't behave all the way like it should, but it's better than it just acting like a mouse..
If you have more questions, I actually have all this archived on my computer sonewhere (I'm replying from my iPod) so ya. Anymore questions feel free to shoot me a note..
That is, if you haven't solved it yet...
like 95 - ME - XP - Vista.
My issue lies with my scanner. Windows not only refuses to install the driver so I can get at the damned thing's harddrive, but it also refuses to notice there's an issue.
Yeah. i see it. It's in my usb port. Dunno what it is but it's there. What do you expect ME to do about it?
um... I expect you to make it work. that's sortta your job.
Well I dunno what it is. Maybe you need to reinstall the drivers. Here's a button to do that.
Ok. *click*
Well looks like your drivers are fine. It's all good. Still don't know what you want me to do with this mystery thing plugged into me though.
<_<
As a matter of fact, i fixed EVERYTHING by getting windows seven.
* Make sure the USB port is powered (tablet light comes on when it's plugged in?) it's possible that the tablet isn't getting enough juice. That'd be borderline unheard of if it's a port on the computer itself and not a non-powered USB hub, but I've seen stranger things happen.
* I've seen plenty of USB ports on computers go bad; try a different device on the port and see if it works.
* Be sure you're using Driver 6.1.5-3a from Wacom's site, dated March 15, 2010, specifically for Vista and Intuos 3
* Might try using the "Have Disk" method of installing the drivers using the device manager
* Try using an older driver from Wacom's site. There's 3 other ones for Intuos 3 besides the latest one
* Try the tablet on another computer to make sure it still works. I noticed you said your desktop rig died - I actually lost a tablet that way. Motherboard shorted out and fried my tablet with it. Wacom was cool enough to sell me an Intuos 3 at a big discount when I told them about it.
The computer knows it's a tablet, knows it's from WACOM, detects the pen in "mouse" mode, but the second you try to interact with Wacom's program to switch on it's pressure sensitivity into pen mode? "NO TABLET FOUND"
Did the same thing with the XP computer if you tried to use the online drivers. Had to use the CD then NEVER UNPLUG THE USB. If you did, it went RIGHT back into 'derp' mode of NO TABLET FOUND.
Have you tried a different usb slot? You might have a dodgy port otherwise. You could always try a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card thing. See if that picks it up.
Also best to remove anything wacom related in safe mode. and run reg cleaner, ccleaner whatever in there as windows frees it up.
I know vista can be a picky fuck. Turnn off uac and all that? It also might be conflicting with something?
I know Intuos3s work just fine on Windows 7 64-bit, so it should work fine on Vista :P Vista and 7 drivers are usually identical in terms of compatibility (it either works for both or doesn't work at all).
If it still won't work, try a different USB port. If nothing, then try another PC to see if it isn't the tablet.
Plus Vista scares the kids. >:3
If I was in your position I would either try and upgrade to 7 or 'upgrade' to XP....Any plans to try and change your OS from vista?
Make sure you are using a powered USB slot. If you have a spare USB hub with a power cord attach THAT to the USB slot and see if the tablet is read.
I know on my netbook only one of the three USB slots is powered(it's listed in the manual), and my Intuos3 only works on that slot.
Then again furs find a million ways to be obstinate so I shouldn't be surprised.
You've tried using different USB ports on the laptop, as well as using a known, powered USB hub?
That's all I have to say.
And a random little note- I never take anyone seriously who has XP with a blue taskbar. It's a weird rule but I have reasons.
Cause then I can modify the colors of the apperance..
baby blue on black ^-^;
and make it a point to do whatever it is I can to customize something =D
I usually stick to my favorite color scheme
Baby blue accents/text on Black areas
Don't beat me :P
...have you REALLY tried turning it off and then back on again?
...Thank you for calling I.T."
I run driver version 6.1.1
I remember having an issue when my Graphire 2 drivers (my OTHER tablet) did not like my Intuos 3. I had to uninstall the Graphire 2, uninstall the Intuos 3, and I think uninstall the pen itself, I don't exactly remember (I had this problem when running vista).
1. Remove the tablet from the USB port.
2. Reboot.
3. Start the wacom 'Tablet Preference File' utility and remove your preferences and the 'all users' preferences.
4. Go to the services control panel and stop the 'TabletServiceWacom' service.
5. Pull up the task manager, and make sure to 'View Processes from All Users' and kill any Wacom_ process running.
6. Uninstall the wacom drivers.
7. Reboot.
8. Install the latest drivers (6.1.5-3), make sure to match 32/64 bit to your OS.
9. Reboot.
10. Plug the tablet into a DIFFERENT usb port than it was in previously (not sure if this matters, but it is what I did).
11. Wait for windows to detect the device and go through it's crazy process.
12. Before putting a pen or mouse on the tablet, start the wacom tablet properties tool.
13. Snag your pen or 4D mouse and touch it to the tablet.
That seemed to work for me. There might be variations on that for your specific problem, but it worked for me when I was doing it on windows 7. I think the real trick was using a different USB port so it'd install new drivers for it. But, I didn't want to test beyond making it work again. Good luck getting it fixed!
You are the first to mention that he needs to remove all the old drivers first. It's the main issue here, just no one else seemed to bring it up.
I installed the win2000 drivers and works. Maybe it works on Wacom too.
She actively went to the Wacom site and downloaded the drivers manually, though.
...While I'm working.
The only way to remedy this is to restart my machine. Insane.
I'm really looking forward to the day when Wacom fixes their shiz and actually makes their own drivers that continuously, without fail WORK.
and realize..
just how effing cool that is!!
I recall Vista gave me some minor issues when I first installed the tablet ( I'm using an Intuos II though ) and ended up having to disable Vista's native tablet PC drivers.
Afterwards, I installed the Wacom drivers, plugged in the tablet and it hasn't given me any issues since. Pulled the drivers off of their site.
Again though, I'm using an Intuos II.
If you DO manage to get it running, an additional bit of info may help you when it comes to pen sensitivity.
Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Pen and Input Devices -> Flicks Tab
Uncheck the " Use flicks to perform common actions. . .etc. . . "
Once I get to work, I'll fire up my laptop which has Vista on it to reverify what I've done to get the tablet up.
I just verified that I have the Tablet PC Input Service disabled on my machine. If I recall correctly, it was wreaking havoc with the Wacom so I just flat disabled it.
My theory is Vista gets confused over which driver to use. Their own, or the Wacom one.
I would remove the Wacom Driver, disable the aforementioned service, reinstall the Wacom driver, plug the tablet in and see what happens. Don't forget to deal with the Flicks issue above or your pen sensitivity may go all stupid on you.
Unplug/uninstall/reboot
Find driver installer
Right click > Properties
Compatibility Tab
Set to Windows XP Service Pack 3
Check Run This Program As Administrator
OK
Install and see if it works
Surprised no-one has suggested?
Reboot, do not plug wacom tablet back in yet.
Download and run the latest drivers available, don't click anything that may pop up during the process. (Best to run this by itself, nothing else in the background)
Reboot.
Once Vista is fully loaded, plug in Tablet.
Maybe you should consider to downgrade your laptop too. It won't harm your lappy.
~N~
There's also the pen mode fix... http://kay.za.net/2008/09/wacom-int.....with-solution/
Good luck, I guess :|
I'm running on windows 7, and it was going smoothly for a month or so then I wake up, stumble over to my PC...and nothing...so after trying to find out everything with just a keyboard i get a friends mouse and started trying to update my drivers... Didn't work...
How I fixed mine
After downloading and installing the drivers for an unknown number of times I decided it would be easier just to have it in an easily accessible folder so I could mash my mouse button on it over and over again in a fit of rage... I copied the driver out of it's temp folder and into my Docs and I start mashing away... And after the first try it worked.. I don't know how it did this, but it worked...however i was stuck running the driver again and again for about a week and it eventually decided it didn't want to stop working anymore...
So this should be a decent temporary fix, mine fixed it's self long term after a while, but until then this was it...GL man
I had to use old drivers for it to work, (pre-bamboo era.) it seems they "updated" their drivers to fail miraculously so you'd get a new tablet, or something.
They never add new features or fix any bugs (that i know of) in their "updates" so i sticked with the old driver.
and it goes on to tell me i need to-re install it all again too..over...and over.
-.-; but it works sort of im just stuck with a flat line rather than the pressure brushes.
Yes, it's quite ironic that a company specializing in digital art supplies has such an overbearing lack of artistic flair isn't it?
On another note, Wacom makes good products but their drivers are garbage and usually have incompatibility issues OUT THE ASS.
Who said steal it? Torrenting is perfectly legal if you have original copies :P
1) Grab laptop and wacom.
2) Open oven
3) ??????
4) BIG PROFITS!
No seriously, the only thing I can say is completely uninstall your old drivers, reinstall the ones that the website says will supposedly work with 7, XP, or Vista.
http://www.wacom.com/downloads/driv.....ail.php?id=214
Reboot with your wacom plugged in or unplugged, if the drivers work properly it shouldn't matter.
BIG PROFITS!
hopefully.
Or go ahead, backup your system, get the free upgrade to windows 7, reinstall software (wacom drivers/photoshop/sai).
BIG PROFITS!
best of luck.
Windows has a perfectly fine free and modern tablet driver api available but only a very few programs like ArtRage actually use it. This is one of the huge problems with tablet computers right now, only penabled Wacom based tablets have full functionality with Photoshop and the vast majority of graphics programs and only a very few tablet have Wacom technology due to high licensing fees. I got burned by this myself, the tablet said it had full functionality and the demonstration art program showed that yes, it did very nicely. Problem was it only worked in the ArtRage program itself and in Photoshop the pen lost all pressure sensitivity function. The bastards use the excuse that it isn't their fault or problem that Adobe and the rest of the graphics world uses wintab.
N-trig can die in a fire. So can the owners of Wintab.
Not sure if anyone gave the answer above (I started reading and saw "Upgrade to 7!" so decided to skip ) but I think I just used the downloadable drivers...
Though saying that, they may have different drivers for different regions of the world? I'd try and find you the URL for the Wacom EU drivers however their EU site is being wonderful and not actually loading >.<
All I can tell is I'm running version 2.9.2.3 of the driver
Either keep trying, or restart the computer a few times after installing it. I personally installed the drivers, then connected the tablet. Sometimes it'll suddenly start working (my old graphire3 did this on XP. Didn't work right, and then suddenly worked perfect until it died completely).

Laptop is Vista (if I had the money for 7 I'd buy a power supply!!!) and Vista + CS4 does NOT like Wacom tablets. Even with proper drivers installed it does not recognize pressure sensitivity (HOW THE FUCK DOES THIS GET PAST TESTERS?!?!)
I'm pulling a few favors (see the end of the second act of any mobster film) to get a few parts replaced... I'll likely be KILLED when that first bill comes in, but... yanno. For the artwork, for the Guild. (Affinity!).
Great Yod.
On Win 7 the drivers installed ok, but I was having trouble with the tablet due to the built-in Tablet PC mode/support. It looks like Vista also has that, and the built in drivers for that might be conflicting with the Wacom ones. After disabling the Tablet PC stuff on Win 7, it was working fine for me. Here's how to disable it on Vista: http://malektips.com/vista-disable-.....et-pc-ink.html
there the other possibility that vista/seven use tablet pc feature that make conflit with wacom drivers. then you just need to turn them off ^^; i did with my windows seven but i don't know for vista. ^^;
