Commission FAQ and TOS 2012
Below is a list of frequently asked questions you may have about commissioning me, and rules about what you may/may not do with your commission. If you want to know something that's not covered here, just leave a comment and I will reply with an answer ASAP! Thanks.
NEW AND CLARIFIED RULES FOR 2012:
-Payment is due ASAP, within a couple of days please. Unpaid slots will be put up for grabs again after 5 days.
-You may claim a maximum of two slots per round.
-You may enter up to three rounds in a row.
-Two characters is the maximum for most images. Small characters (such as pets) may be added on a case by case basis. Three character images will be half-body only.
-If your character is cosplaying or using a specific prop (such as a certain kind of gun), you MUST provide a reference picture.
-Please don't ask me for sketches outside of my 'slots open' journal.
SLOTS, PRICING, AND PAYMENT
1. How do I get a commission from you?
Wait for me to make a 'commissions open' journal, then comment on it! Commissions are first-come first-served, so if you're the fifth person to comment, you'll be the fifth person drawn. Once you've claimed your slot, I will reply to you with a form to fill out.
2. Is there a waiting list for people who comment late?
No. Once the specified number of slots is filled, that's it. However, if any of those slots become free due to cancellation, non-payment, etc., it will be available for the first commenter who missed the list, then the second, and so on.
3. Can I commission a drawing for someone else, or reserve a slot on their behalf?
Yes, gift commissions are totally fine, and sometimes I even hold sales for them! Reserving a slot for a friend is okay too, but keep in mind that the 'pay within a reasonable amount of time' rule still applies, and if they don't get in contact with me within a few days, the slot is up for grabs again.
4. Why the different prices on sketches and inks? What will mine cost?
Prices depend on the complexity of the character design, whether the commission is a sketch or a simple inked drawing, the number of characters in the image, and whether or not there are background elements or intricate props (weapons, etc.). I can't tell you ahead of time what your commission will cost, but the examples linked in my journals will give you a rough idea. Only when I have your refs and info will I be able to tell you how much your commission will cost.
5. Why do inked commissions cost less than sketches?
All of my commissions are drawn traditionally on paper, which means there's no way for me to go back and erase or edit inked lines. What you see is what you get.
6. What kind of payment do you accept? Are money orders okay?
Due to the time it takes for money orders to get through the mail, I cannot accept them for sketches and simple ink commissions, which are designed to have a quick turnaround time. Paypal is the only payment type for these commissions. NOTE: You DO NOT have to send extra money to cover the Paypal fee, though you can if you want to.
7. If I pay you extra, will you get my commission done faster?
No. You can tip me if you feel generous, but tips are not bribes. Please don't send me extra money with the expectation of special treatment. The only time I will ever move drawings up in priority is if a specific deadline must be met, such as for a birthday or anniversary gift.
8. Do you offer other types of commissions besides sketches and simple inks?
Not usually. If I'm in the mood to work on something else, it'll be announced in my journal.
CONTENT AND RESTRICTIONS
1. What are you willing to draw?
Plenty of things! I will draw any species, any age, any body type, any gender, any mood, pretty much any character design you can throw at me. Most small to medium-sized props are okay too. Take a look at my gallery to get an idea of what subjects I'm best at. I'm willing to draw guns and other weapons, as long as you can provide ref pics for them. Mild sensuality, mild violence, and mild drug use are okay on a case-by-case basis. Just ask and we can work something out.
2. What are you not willing to draw?
-Anything pornographic. This includes hardcore fetish content of any kind and all 'naughty bits'.
-Ridiculously exaggerated bodies. No 9000 pound blobs of lard, no beachball boobs, no giant crotch bulges, etc.
-Nothing Nazi related, or anything else that could be considered racist, hateful or derogatory.
-Extreme violence or drug use (drinking and smoking are generally ok, shooting up is not.)
-Copyrighted characters (though cosplay is ok!)
-Anything else that is prohibited by FurAffinity's TOS and submission agreement.
If there's anything you aren't sure about, just ask me. The rule of thumb is a G to PG rating.
3. Are M/M or F/F couples okay? What about herm characters?
Absolutely! Ain't no discrimination in here.
4. What if I just want something generic, not a specific character?
That's totally workable. Let me know the basic idea and I'll take it from there!
THE COMMISSION PROCESS
1. How long will it take you to finish my drawing?
It shouldn't take me any longer than a month at the most, provided nothing totally crazy happens IRL. You can contact me at any time to check on the status of your commission, but please don't abuse this and ask me five times a day, excessive pestering can be considered harassment and I may cancel your order.
2. If I don't want the commission anymore, can I get a refund?
At any time before the art is finished, you have the right to cancel and receive a refund for whatever portion of the work remains. If the drawing has not been started, this means a full refund; if it's partially done, a partial refund. No questions asked. However, there are no refunds once the art has been completed. Keep in mind that I also have the right to cancel your commission at any time and for any reason, in which case you will be fully refunded.
3. Do you provide WIPs for approval?
Not usually for sketch commissions, although I may send you one if I need to confirm something with you.
4. You drew my character wrong, can you fix it?
I will follow your instructions as closely as possible if I have good references to work from, but in case I do screw up, just let me know and I'll be happy to change the colors, or do minor edits to the drawing itself for no charge. To avoid this happening, please make sure your refs are current and your requests are clear! I am not responsible for errors due to things you did not mention in the first place.
Please remember that I can NOT change the line art on inked commissions.
5. Can I upgrade my commission to a more finished piece?
If you like what you've seen so far, then yes, I can do additional work (inks, shading, etc.) on your piece for an extra fee.
6. My character design is different now. Can you update the art?
If it's something fairly simple like a slight color change, then yes, I can do that for free. If the change is significant enough to require a major overhaul, then you will have to pay extra.
IMAGE USE AND COPYRIGHT
1. Can I get a high-res or non-watermarked version of my commission?
Absolutely. Just let me know what email I should send it to and you will receive a working-size version with no watermark in whatever filetype you choose.
2. Can I get my traditional hard copy mailed to me?
Yep, I can do that too! If you're interested in owning the original, you can send me a note. You will have to pay for it. $3 to anywhere in North America and $5 for overseas will cover a sturdy envelope and basic First Class shipping. It may take a couple of weeks before I can mail your art out, depending on whenever I can get to the post office, but I will let you know as soon as it's been sent. I will ship to anywhere in the world.
3. What rights do I have as the customer? What can or can't I do with my finished art?
Assuming the character(s) depicted belongs to you, you are allowed to repost your commission to your own gallery or site, crop/edit the art to use as an avatar or website graphic, obtain high-res and/or original copy versions, and request for me to withhold or remove the art from my gallery at any time. You may NOT use your commission to gain any sort of profit, such as selling prints or entering it in contests, and you may not claim it as your own work or put your own watermark on it.
4. What rights do you retain as the artist?
I reserve the right to use your commission as a 'sample' piece for other potential customers or display it in my personal portfolio. I may also withhold or remove commissions from my public gallery at my own discretion.
OTHER STUFF
1. What's the best way to contact you?
Right here on FA is actually the best place to contact me, either by comment or note. I check this site frequently. If FA is down or you want to talk to me more privately, you can use my somewhat-dusty email address: clockworkreverie[at]gmail[dot]com. In the future I may set up a new email account for commission-related stuff.
2. What materials or programs do you use to make your art?
Sketches and simple inks are drawn traditionally on paper, then scanned and colored digitally. My usual program of choice is Paint Shop Pro 6.
3. Do you do trades? Can I draw you something instead of paying with money?
Sorry, money only! These commissions are putting food on my table :P
4. Will you draw my character for free?
lol.
By ordering a commission from me, you are confirming that you have read, understand, and agree to my rules.
All commissions are the joint property of me (the artist) and the owners of the characters depicted. Do not copy, trace, alter or repost any of my commission work without the express permission of the character owner.[/b]

I do not keep a waiting list, sorry. The reason I do a limited number of slots every week is to keep from getting overwhelmed with work, and when I'm done with those, I like to take a break without having to worry about other obligations. I do apologize for those of you who keep missing a slot! I try to post my journals at different times of day, to give people with busy schedules or in other timezones a chance. New sketch rounds are usually started on the weekend.
I have this problem too, some people really do get upset because they keep missing it. Only thing I could think to do is sometimes when I open for new slots I state that you can only grab a slot if you have not had one before, to help the people who have always missed it. ^^
Digital copies are great, but holding the piece of work that an artist worked on for you in your hands is just SO satisfactory, even when it's just a sketch.
