I do have a quick question about this. I'm considering entering. I'm a writer. Aside from what has already been posted in your comic, are writers free to interpret your characters in their own way? Their life story hasn't yet been fully fleshed out.

Or would you prefer some sort of "hey this could possibly happen in the future" rather than something that has already happened?

Oh yes, it totally sucks when an artist offers stuff for FREE and you can submit ANY form of creativity. I wish you luck in life begging for free handouts when perfectly legitimate opportunities land in your lap and you complain about them.

Okay, I guess what you meant was, "Aw hell, it sucks that I'm not an artist so I could participate in this cool contest." But can you really blame bcblues for reading it as "This contest sucks"?

Ok, for the benefit of the doubt I'm going to assume you are a decent guy, but I'm going to clarify why your simple statement is rude and improper social behavior.

First off, let me say that I am far from a troll. However, if you don't put some thought into what I type now I may assume you're one for rejecting some politely typed social etiquette. I responded a bit heavy initially for a reason. I consider Rukis a friend and not long ago she posted that people were complaining about a comic she started on a whim and made available to everyone to read FOR FREE. So, here she is a few days later and again is offering something (again for free) and I see your post about how "this sucks" and "you're not an artist".

My initial assumption was, as Footpad responded, that you were saying her contest sucks. What's worse it sounded like you thought it sucked because you were not an artist. This is after she clearly stated everyone had a chance by entering "anything" (including writing, art, pinecone statues...ANYTHING).

Again, for the benefit of the doubt, let's assume it's instead (as Footpad also proposed) that you were saying the situation sucks that you couldn't enter this cool contest because you're not an artist. This is still kind of offensive as it implies you didn't read just how open she made the thing. Either way you're still being negative about something that's being offered for free by someone and that you stand a decent chance of winning if you at least give it a try.

Now, you have the ability to completely blow off what I've just typed, call me a troll again, or whatever. I don't really care what you think of me. What I do care about is how people treat kind gestures from artists (or anyone for that matter). By being a bit careless with this particular response you end up throwing a kind gesture back in someone's face. Do that enough and there's no more kind gestures, just the standard "you get what you pay for" mentality. This happens with a lot of artists here on FA because people act as if the artist should always do what the public wants no matter the situation. I'm not saying that is necessarily your stance, but the whole situation is something more people should think about when not thinking about how their words may affect others.
