[01] Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post
apparently ;)
[02] Would you do meth if it was legalized?
I might try it, but probably not
[03] Abortion: for or against it?
I'm 100% in support of keeping the practice legal and safe, and allowing a woman to make the choice for herself, regardless of whether I personally agree with her choice or not. That being said, I think that I would agree with a woman who chooses to do so in some situations, but not others.
[04] Do you think a country would fail with a female president?
No. Women are in positions of authority all over the world, and can act competently and professionally in those situations, so there's no reason to believe that the position of president would be any different.
[05] Do you believe in the death penalty?
Not at this time. The legal system is too biased and too easy to manipulate to ensure that everyone who is convicted of a capital offense is actually guilty. Also, studies have shown that lethal injection is not nearly as humane as is commonly believed. The paralysis drugs create the illusion of a peaceful death, but the reality to the person being executed may be quite different. Fix those issues, and I'll consider it.
[06] Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yes. It should be sold and regulated the same way that tobacco and alcohol are.
[07] Are you for or against premarital sex?
For! In fact, I personally think it's irresponsible to enter into marriage with someone before living with that person for a while, and seeing if the two of you are really sexually compatible first. Given the general aversion to premarital sex in this country, It's no wonder that the divorce rate for first marriages is over 50%.
[08] Do you believe in God?
No. I do have some spiritual beliefs, but I'm not religious. I would characterize my beliefs as falling somewhere between paganism and atheism.
[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Of course! "Marriage" means different things to different people, and if one couple wants to use that word because they believe it defines their relationship, then it's not the government's place to deny them the legal protections of marriage, based solely on sexual orientation. Also, ALL the attempts at so-called"separate-but-equal" compromises (domestic partnerships, civil unions, etc...) have failed miserably. It's time to let go of the notion that marriage is something special and unique to heterosexuals, and just treat same-sex couples equally under the law already.
[10] Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
Not really. I think it's wrong that they're so easily taken advantage of by employers though, treating them as slave labor based on their fears of being caught and sent back.
[11] A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
It depends on the situation, but I think that the baby should probably be given to an adult guardian until the mother turns 18, at which point the child may, or may not, be given back to her depending on whether or not she's fit to be a mother at that point.
[12] Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
Yes. Alcohol consumption and the legal driving age are two of the few exceptions to the notion that a person is a legal adult when they turn 18. Therefore, I think alcohol consumption, and the driving age should both be changed to 18, and individuals should be held accountable as adults for their actions at that point.
[13] Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Yes, but at this point, it would be irresponsible for us to do so overnight. We need to at least help to fix the damage that we caused, but I do think that more of an effort should be made to get us out faster.
[14] Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
No. We, as free human beings, should all have the right to end our lives whenever we choose. The doctors who assist us should be expected to make sure we're in a rational state of mind, and that all other possibilities are exhausted, but I think that the right to die with dignity goes right along with the right to live.
[15] Do you believe in spanking your children?
In moderation, yes. But the parent needs to be careful to only spank in punishment, and not as a release of their own frustration or anger at the child.
[16] Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
Sure. I think that flag burning is a legitimate form of free speech, and I could use the money ;)
[17] Who do you think would have made a better president? McCain or Obama?
Obama. I may not agree with all of his policies or decisions, but I think that a McCain presidency would have been way too similar to the last 8 years of Bush.
[18] Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers?
A little. I know that a lot of people have strong feelings on these issues and, although I answered them as honestly as I could, I do still have respect for other peoples' opinions, and I'm not adverse to changing my views when presented with a compelling enough argument.
BTW, I have no intention of engaging in a flame war over this. If you disagree with me, then post this meme to your own journal ;)

[09] Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Of course! "Marriage" means different things to different people, and if one couple wants to use that word because they believe it defines their relationship, then it's not the government's place to deny them the legal protections of marriage, based solely on sexual orientation. [04] Do you think a country would fail with a female president?
LOL, it's a little late for that after the Bush Regime, lmao!
GAAAAH!!!! Are you as fucking sick of that shit as I am? I agree with you 100% on same-sex marriage (and hell, I'm straight!). I'm just getting a tiiiiiiiiiny bit fed up with religious pricks thinking they know everything that's right.
I think I heard somewhere once that you should listen to the god that made man, not the god that man made. Catchy quote. First to tell me what it's from gets a cookie (i'm looking at you, nicobay). ^^
"which was first used in NAZI Germany, BTW"
Really what was the point in bringing that up it has no bearing whatsoever on the method and it's effects.
I like seeing how peoples minds work. It's like a morbid hobby with me
After all, we already have personal-quantities of Marijuana (5g or less) legal (or with such a small fine its kind of pointless) and legalized gay marriage (despite the tories having tried to overturn that decision) that I can't answer this properly. :X
Though pot being "legal-ish", I still don't do it so... yeah.
However, I can say that I do agree with pretty much everything you wrote. :)
(Joke btw :P)
Kar
That's the only McCain I'd ever vote for =P

Ditto on all points. Well spoken/written.
If I said that Iraq is under siege because it holds a large number of training grounds for terrorists, would you still believe western governments should pull their armies out? (I use the word terrorist under the pretense that these are people who are willing to take lives simply because you do not share their beliefs)
Also, you mentioned legal equality in terms of marriage, and yet what is it about marriage that you want? My view is that civil unions, and all the other attempts, are building blocks to figure out exactly what legalities should be put in place for same-sex couplings, rather than using marriage, which does not deliver the same rights. Would you rather the name 'marriage' with proper legalities, or a different name, yet still with the required legalities?
Those are just my current views, though. I'm open to change, if I hold an underdeveloped perspective!
My view on marriage is a bit more solidified though, considering the vast amount of research I've done on the subject. The thing I want about marriage, is simple. Equal access to a legal institution that exists for the purpose of providing legal rights, protections and responsibilities to committed couples.
I don't know where you're getting the notion that marriage wouldn't deliver the same rights to same-sex couples as it would for opposite-sex couples. The only thing that's preventing all those same rights from being available right now is an explicit ban on same-sex marriages, the removal of which is the whole point of the question in the meme ;)
For legal reasons, the US government already considers the husband and wife to be legal partners in marriage. Therefore, there wouldn't need to be any changes to the laws regarding marriage to allow it to afford all of the same rights to a same sex couple. It would be just like when interracial marriage was legalized. That didn't require any changes to the marriage laws either, just the lifting of an arbitrary restriction. It would be different if the husband and wife had unique legal roles in marriage that aren't compatible with a same-sex coupling, but that hasn't been the case for decades.
Even if legal alternatives to marriage were able to afford the same legal rights, they still would be unequal because of the name. Many couples, both gay and straight, want to use the word "marriage" because they feel that it's the only word that implies the deep sense of love and commitment that they feel defines their relationship. By not letting same-sex couples use that word, the government is promoting the idea that gay relationships are unworthy of the title, and unable to obtain the type of relationship status awarded to opposite-sex couples.
And finally, simply removing the ban is, by far, the easiest way to address the issue of equality. It's a much cheaper, faster, and equitable solution than screwing around with "separate-but-equal" alternatives that could never possibly work, because there's simply no way to make separate equal. It didn't work for segregation, and it won't work now.
Going on that interpretation, I see your point, and I have to agree with it. My views have been formed down in Australia, where there's zero tolerance for the use of marriage for same-sex couples currently, but a separate set of rules are being slowly worked on, but it seems both routes are just as valid, and yours is certainly more efficient! Thanks :)
We differ on a few points, but as you wisely suggested, 'if you disagree, then post this meme to your own journal'.
Memes can sometimes be a cross between a confession and self-analysis. :-D
I have really close to the same answers and I would re-post but no one cares anyway ^_^
