You know, as a math nerd I have to point out that 66 is 32% more than 50. That is, 50 * 1.32 = 66. 50 * 1.16 is only 58.

So 50% of 100 is 50 and 16% of 100 is 16

(I can't believe we're having a math argument here of all places) You see, the 50% is applied to the 100 yes, but the 16% is not. The wording specifically says "16% more than" which if you analyze exactly what that means: take an example like saying "30% more than 100" you take it to mean that the 30% is applied to the 100, thus the answer is 130. In this same way, 16% more than 50% of 100 is the same as "16% more than (50% of 100)" which is the same as "16% more than 50", which of course does not come out to 66. It's confusing because it's a percent of a percent of a number. Really it's just worded poorly, but as it stands, it is how I said, therefore you need 32%.

your not doing your math right, technically what you say is true, but it doesn't apply here as it's a other sutation.

nobody said it was 16% of 50, but 16% more then 50% (16 + 50 = 66, also when you add a %).
but it's 66% of 150 (mbit in this case), not 16% more then 50% of 150.

or, of the 100% you can have, the site won't get 50% more bandwidth, but 66% more, so a difference of 16%.
you say its a percentage of a precent of a number, but that is not the case.
it's just 16% more extra bandwidth then 50% more, a.k.a. 150:50% = 75mbit, but, it's not going to be 50% more, but 66% more (= 100mbit).
fender just meant 16 units of 1% more, not physically 50% of 150 + 16% of 150, but not 50% but 66%, so 16% more then 50% but not relative to any number, just the amount of percentage the bandwidth is increased.

I think at this point this is a dispute of how the wording of the statement is interpreted. Obviously he meant is as you say, but I believe that the exact structure of the wording does indicate a percent within a percent. Either way I think we should just agree that it was worded poorly, and that this is a silly argument not worth having =P

This is a nice sight... Its been getting incredibly slow at times for me... Though I wonder how long it'll last before FA has to jump to 500mbit, then 1gbit...

My dinky little town finally decided to upgrade their 10 year old ADSL equipment a few months ago, and for the past 2 months I've been on the ADSL2+ bandwagon with 15mbit download (actual speed close to 12.8mbps) which is awesome. (Anyone with Verizon Fios, just please keep your mouth shut yo. I don't want to hear about your symmetrical 20/20 or 50/50+ connections. I'm i Canada, and in the middle of nowhere, hours from a major city so 15mbit is awesome... Although Telus, my ISP, is already doing VDSL+ in the city. :P ah well, going from 2.8mbit/768kbps to 12.8mbit/968kbps is good enough for me.)
