Okay, so I've just been given news that I need to raise roughly $5000 by March of next year.

I am reopening commissions soon, and when I do, I am going to work like a son of a bitch. I just hope I get enough before 8 months is up...
I think I better think about taking the Iron Artist challenge, too.

You've definitely got the skill to raise that money. Iron artist challenge would be a great starting off point. That, and if you make an art CD and promo the fuck out of it, FC next february is a great place to make some money.
I'd love to do some shit at cons but the thing is I don't live in the US. >.<
