I'm hereby declaring August 21st Commenter Appreciation Day!
We can all appreciate the art, stories, music and more that get posted to the site, but what about the people who give us feedback, praise or just their time? It's time to say thank you! And I don't mean generic "thanks for the watch" shout (hint: nobody really likes those), but an honest "Hey, thanks for taking the time!" kind of comment.
Commenters never get the thanks they deserve. So this Saturday, take some time. Thank one or two people who've commented on your work who make you feel good or just give you motivation. Just take a few minutes to say thanks. It's a simple notion, but commenters (the good ones, anyway!) can make the world go 'round.

*Shakes paw*
Thank you! :3
*shakes paw back*
thank you very much
NOW THANK ME!!!
and thank you for commenting
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1644880/
Reposted in my journal.
Lol, thank you
it's nice, having leaders who understand us <3
maybe not as much as being an artist, but it's not like we can say that commenting is our job! XD
(( or can we? ))
at any rate, preciate the idea ^^
*tries to nom them, but ends up nomming you instead* >///>
obtw, where do i go to find artists for my work? is there a special place for looking for more elaborate commissions?
it seems most artists here are not used to accepting commissions for canvas-wide artwork.
i have seen artists in the artist's alley and dealers dens doing really awesome work for 10 dollars a pop. it looks tiring.
i have talked to uber-ju and mirage about commissions, and although i could not give 200-500 usd commissions every week, midway, say, 70-100 isnt bad.
what would 80-100 usd generally get me?
where do i go to learn this?
A day for all those people who leave comments consisting of only one word and/or an emoticon!
Praise be to them!
*Marks date on calendar*
If this will boost the number of meaningful comments out there, then I'm all for it.
Cute pic btw
......but i can't thank you until the 21st.........
not enough comments??
*adds a comment to it comments on your comment, so you can comment while being commented, and comment and be commented*
Yush, people who comment rock. I appreciate the appreciation
*Appreciagasms*
My thoughts at least.
though, Bender, now that i know you want it, i'll be sure to add furaffinity to my home pages.
i'll make it daily routine, now that i know want it <3
So I totally approve of this day.
what generally bothers me is that i hear some furry artists charge 200 for the same work that other artists do every day for 5.
that strikes me as sad. granted, *puts on glasses of SCIENCE* what happens is this. you are an artist. people really like you. you begin getting overloaded with work. you charge more, to reduce the number of requests. this seems to imply what you do is scarce. law of scarcity, together with supply and demand mean that people only want you more. they want your sig, they want to be able to say you have made a work of art for them.
now, getting to that point, where you are overloaded with work, rather than craving it takes skill. since i wish to become a musician, it may be a good idea to keep that close to my chest, at least until i've gotten started, and have my name out there. as an inventor, i dont want people using my own ideas against me.. *whimpers*
but yeah, i know how you feel.
um... can i see your portfolio?
I always try to make time to thank my commentors, and also browse through the daily submissions and comment on other people's artwork. It makes me happy to receive a "thank you", because it means my comment has been read and appreciated.
Plus, that's a great way to start a conversation and potentially make a new friend! c: I even met my boyfriend of 4 years, that way!
isnt it interesting how the world is small like that?
what would we do without bender and his nakama? <3
also hai XD
*nibbles an otter*
encouraging commentators to show their favorite artists they appreciate the hard work and dedication to schedule means they'll keep cranking out the delicious artwork.
For Furdom! For SCIENCE! For the Furry Nation!
*blushes, and hide behind the nearest bushy tail, nao*
And I just did Unsee X3
Hehe, but thank you! ^.^
can't wait, i'm a commenter more then a poster X3
...
Also, I better get a big ol' thanks for this comment.
At least I say that any way.
Because it's true... sad face...
yet, and ppl don't fap at our music(?)everyone's tastes and needs are different, and if people want more, then they should get it, duntcha tink?
>:3 *votes with his wallet for more cuddles* <3
i have heard theories about that.
it is because this fandom is still young.
people join the furdom for the porn, but stay for the awesome people (and the cuddles!) <3
Like I said, there are some awesome clean artists ... but they are few and in-between, and with the very small amount of attention they receive, they'll most definitely die out before the porn. Sad, but logical and true.
Shameless plug :)
Gonna repost it
I appreciate back ;3
it could go multiple ways.
whatever way helps our fandom become stronger and more cohesive would be what i would want ^^
we are all in this together.
people look at us and see a bunch of pervs.
i look at us and see everyone who loves me.
Don't play this game with me.
Nothing but good could come from it, really.
it would hurt those who are overloaded with comments and such, but would help those who dont get enough appreciation.
it's brilliant, really. see, what happens, is artists who dont get that much attention, seek out those who watch them, who like their work, but may not talk about it all of the time.
getting messages from their artists about how they appreciate feedback will cause them to get a flood of enthusiastic response.
remind me to thank whoever came up with that idea. it is quite brilliant and clever.
Happy birthday ^^
this really is a good idea. it's not really some pc bullcrap, although i thought that at first too, but no, think about it!
it'll help all artists! not just the little ones, but if artists put extra effort into their work as a whole, the enthusiasm will catch on, and more commishes for everyone ^^
and whatever helps the artists and the admins helps everyone, since the artists and admins are the backbone of my favorite culture <3
I was being totally serious! I love the idea, and I immediately saw the benefits of such a 'holiday'. <333
I'm delighted to see this happening.
*noms on lively~*
Of course if I ever actually become popular and have 1,337 watchers I'll be totally fucked. Well, here's to worrying about that later.
Happy commenter appreciation day! I won't be home Saturday, but the Commenter Day spirit will be with me.
Wait a sec, how many comments have I made?
Holy shit! Uhhh... forget all that. Commenting is awesome.
*helps burn the heretic*
>:3
but seriously, isnt that an interesting realization?
what if furaffinity wasnt here? what would you do, then?
what if bender's cute face disappeared forever?
*begins worrying, and makes sure to donate before he gives himself an aneurysm worrying*
also, good job, guys, all of ya! it wouldnt be the Furdom without FurAffinity, hardworking artists, faithful commenters and sacrificing sysadmins alike <3
thanks for being there all o ya <3<3
*cuddles and smexings*
XD *noms on misaimed humor*
Now... to remember this X_X
I don't get comments alot, but I guess I don't give many either.
Oh here! I leave this comment, you can thank me Saturday. :)
technical interference isnt the answer. people comment for a reason.
want them to comment? motivate them ^^ <3
it wont change much, i think it's to see what would happen..
*curls behind something*
Thanks for the watch! (I'll never reply to your comments though ^_^)
I'll be sure to be extra repliant (if that's a word XD)
Wow, I think this is the first time we have talked dude, how's everything going?
reading all of the pretentious or bitter artist's grumbling and poor handling of this thread got me a little down, but your enthusiasm made it better!
how are you? how you been? do you like sushi?
do you live anywhere near dallas? why dont we go shopping? it'll be fun!
*does his best to overwhelm the cutie into submitting into letting him buy him dinner or something, or maybe coffee, expect not, cause he hates coffee, but tea is fine, or juice, or milk, or anything really*
I'm feeling good, improving on my art and stuff
Haven't ever tried sushi. Isn't it squid or octupus?
Yeah, I live just south of there
Shopping, really wish I could dude; it would be fun XD
Tea is good. So is milk
How about we just watch each other?
...the few I have, anyway.
as we all know, all artists are born with a desire to cut themselves and cry hate everything forever </sarcasmmode>
what i'm trying to say is, it's the people who make a point to let them know the hard work, the starving every day, the feeling like crap cause everyone is ignoring you while you slave away for peanuts...
having someone leave a little note saying "keep up the good work"
it makes it bearable, if not that much better..
<3
Then let's decide to make a site-wide repostin' hootnanny about it
This is a great idea that is not redundant or meaningless in the least
granted, it is nice that someone had thought of this..
just because it /should/ be common courtesy, does not mean everyone here has learned that growing up.
i mean, just calling it "common" courtesy..
has calling it "common" sense made it any more common?
just calling common sense common wont make it common, you know. :p
Very nice gesture. :B
just give the fandom time.
all young fandoms have a proliferation of things that draw people in, that meet needs no one else will..
have you, by any chance, not heard of the Rule of First Adopters, yet?
have a delicious and fascinating link which you totally shouldnt click because it is bad,
and you are a naughty little minx for even thinking about clicking it: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.p.....fFirstAdopters
we come for the porn, but stay for the cuddles <3
it's not you, it's just the pattern..
dont worry, we appreciate your hard work <3
we just want you naughty artists running off with the idea you dont need equally naughty people around you keeping you fed ^^
it's nothing personal, we artists have predisposition toward thinking we are the center of the world, and we need people to keep things in perspective ^^
the point of being an artist is expression, but you cant express to noone, nor can you express to abstract ideas or dead people.
the rest of the fandom needs you, but you also need to keep in mind who puts food on your plate. we all need to be reminded of that, sometimes.
fourth line, insert "dont"
"Please don't thank me for watches. If you are truly thankful (meaning you don't copy-paste your thank yous to everyone), then say "Have a nice day!" or something different. That way, it won't feel like an automated message."
Simple, right? I don't see how thankful someone is if they can't do such a simple thing while "thanking" someone. Like the Fox-with-the-Tie said, "No one likes to see those messages".
EDIT* Well now I feel bad for saying "thank you for the watch" because I actually mean it, and I appreciate it because I don't normally get recognition like that on DA where I can actually say thank you. I mean it makes me feel good when someone watches me because they (hopefully) like my work.
Now the "thank you for the watch" is just something general, I don't actually just say "hey, thank you for the watch/fave"
"Tag"....He he
*tags and runs, giggling* <3
amidointhisright
the thing about trolling a troll is it means you are a higher level troll. :3
when one is bored, when can find how strong your mind is, when testing your strength against a hardened smarter-than-he-sounds troll.
besides, what else is there to do when you cant paw anymore? get a job? *gasp* HERESY! BLASPHEMY! *burns self with images that make goatse and lemonparty look tame and everyday by comparison*
eh, trolls are people too, but sometimes, people just arent in the mood. there is a time for EPIC BATTOH FOR THE LULZ and there is a time for cuddles and kittens.
cause, as you know, sometimes, a cat is fine too. ;3
tl;dr I accidentally the whole comment.
they totally count!
how could i ever meet my daily recommended allowance for calories without them?
*devours a few* OM NOM NOM
Other than the usual worries about it being exploited, this reminder (that's how I see it) seems like a good idea... you just need to catch me when I'm not so dead tired I can't think of anything intelligent to say (like now... my higher thought appears to be dropping quickly from the beginning of this comment).
however, some artists mean it, and some dont.
it has a bad connotation, now.
it comes off as superficial and trite, even if it isnt meant that way.
*sighs*
come on, guys, For SCIENCE! For The ARTS! For The FURDOM!
if a demon coyote like me, who hates authority and is contrary for the principle of the thing is being all nationalistic, what does that... wait a minute..
um.. never mind.. *blushes*
rawr, furrys are bad, rawr! we should totally not have any respect for ourselves rawr!
*hides nao*
From now on, I'm gonna lay down a rap for everyone who watches me <3
Thanks fo da watch my homie I gotta goooo"
That's how yours would sound.
This is just like every other day for me then XD
Do I get a prize? ; 3 ;
good job, cutie~
*hides again*
it takes some balls to put your heart and soul out there for everyone to see and touch and taste and feel...
but that's why it's awesome to be an artist, isnt it?
to be able to reach out, and touch so many people, and be touched in return..
*reminds himself to practice his music, since they arent hiring at the brothel*
I always love it when artists thank me for watches and faves. I appreciate that they took the time to say so, and I think it's a lovely tradition.
I religiously thank other who fave and watch me. I really mean it, and I want them to know. If they don't like it, it's not that hard to delete a shout. I don't leave "thanks for the watch" shouts up forever, but I still like to get them.
burrito..
*whimers and looks pitiful, giving the best puppydog eyes he can pull off, despite his demonic form*
*cuddles* maybe it is.. just you <3<3
But that is my opinion. Feel free to say if you share it, but if you disagree then I don't really care...
that is how artists are. if they were insecure about it, they would not feel threatened and angry.
really, politicians pull this all of the time.
this isnt the time to be childish. you know you are always free to ignore this thread if you feel is it superfluous, but i think it's a brilliant idea, it just needs good execution is all.
riling up insecurities isnt going to help anyone. we need to be together on this.
we're all part of this community. we need that art, and the artists need us to pursue release that... that compulsion, that desire to the heard.
we should let them know that we are listening, and we should remind them they arent alone. <3
I'm not being childish, I'm having an opinion.
And what people really need is manors, then they won't need to be told to say thankyou to people that spend thier time on them...
i still need a reference sheet done, and i am assuming your avvie was your work?
P.S., I love "thanks for the watch" shouts.
the point is to stimulate the art economy..
it also reveals the attitudes of the artists.
it kindof sounds like the attitudes of the deep south landowners when the north said, "slavery is bad, naughty slavers" and they were all leik, "but we wuvs the slaves, we taught them mad skillz and they are healthy and stoof"
but the norf was liek, "dun matter. slavery is bad, and you should be ashamed." and the souf was leik, "nuuuu~~"
anyway, those artists who are grumbling should keep in mind that that is what this sounds like. Fender is the North. the artists are the South.
and we commenters are the Slaves in the middle of the power struggle.
.. sounds like a fanfic waiting to happen, a really disturbing yet hawt fanfic..
maybe i should write it...
but im not and on the 21st ill be glad im not haha
im going to comment on everything i look at starting tomorrow!
Don't tell me to give more comments because I do give my fair share. And I try my very hardest to say more than just "lol cute" too.
no, but you can have a hug and a delicious cookie~
i made cookies, you know~~
i wish everyone didnt live so far away.. i'm not a bad cook, i swear!
Fender / Trope-tan OTP FTW
Is this gonna be like a yearly thing? That would be awesome. :3
I think to much artist are very ungreatful
no arguments, NEEDS MOAR TONGUE. TONGUE EVERYWHERE.
*snuggles with*
Also, the avvie is from a picture I commissioned from Bloo!
Here ya are and I feel appreciated, Thanks for the awesome year's. Fender.
isnt just about The Arts, it's also about your attitude.
your attitude shows in your art, even if you dont think it does.
i can see your soul, because that's what art is. i bit of you is etched into that paper, file, etc.
if your soul stinks, why would we want to buy bits of it?
some are quite delicious, though..
+watch+journalAlways sucks when you post something and no one comments D:
I'll also think a little harder about what I say when I comment so that I'll be an extra good commenter. lol
haha "FA is brought to you in part by viewers like you, thank you!"
what this says to me is "I'm self advertising, you also now know that I glanced at your art and don't care for it at all"
I took the time to write that! I deserve appreciation!
Seriously though, I comment quite often (well, now compared to me at the beginning. :p) but I suppose that's because I like looking at art more than creating it (in other words, I suck at drawing, so I appreciate others more).
But seriously, this is good for us artists who are striving to improve, and who comment on everyone who comments/shouts, etc.
Have a good day from Alaska, happy drawing / commenting }|=>

On topic, I do try to thank people for watches/favs and make it at least a LITTLE unique.
*crickets chirp* ooor... not. ^_^
*raises gun and shoots*
"Hahahaha!"
If you tell an artist every work he or she ever does is gold, you may not be doing them a service. Even the best artist has things they may overlook or draw out of proportion. Some they catch, some they need to look back for.
In short, there is true support, and there is also 'oversupport'... a kind of overcompensation because people want artists to like them. Don't be afraid to give some gentle criticisms if the artist will receive it well. I've seen artists take advice and improve upon it. It's a great feeling.
Also, you're right. No one really does like those "thanks for the fave" people.
I find them pretty damn annoying, actually.
And so many people commented here that it actually lagged while I was typing this comment.
Really, do you get so mad over something so trivial?
You see, I could post a attention whore like comment like HEY LOVE ME I COMMENT AND SHIT but instead of that I say penis.
I say penis. I say it because saying that is the same as saying anything else in a comment. IT LEAVES THE COMMENT THERE THAT IS ALL.
God you furries and your hypercrotical protocols over the most trivial things....and your not memes...
FOR GOD'S SAKE YOU MORONS IT'S NOT A MEME IF YOU POST SHIT AND GET PEOPLE TO DO THE SAME! THAT IS CALLED A FUCKING BANDWAGON.
BANDWAGON.....NOT MEME, B-A-N-D-W-A-G-O-N
And it's inane comments like this that drove me to ignore this day.
