So I guess I have to be an educator
and inform everyone about what's really going on with this little media fiasco that stemmed from an epic fail on the part of the American Media.
First of all, it's not a mosque, it's a COMMUNITY CENTRE that happens to have places for facilitating interfaith dialogue, and there just so happens to be a prayer room for Muslims in part of the building. Second, IT'S NOT ON GROUND ZERO. Anyone who knows how to read a map knows this. (which is apparently a good portion of America, which makes me question our education standards considerably if they don't know how to read a map)
Also, I found this little status on someone's facebook that just called for a little help from an Interfaith activist like myself:
"I beleive the whole religion of Islam is a joke... it only seem's to breed radicaly violent people, oppresive men to women and suicide bombers... thats my take. I could say more, but I'm really tired and need my sleep America." - your average bit of idiocy brought to you by a member of the Christian Right
So naturally, I have a pretty witty response that hits close to home for his faith:
"You mean like how Christianity breeds the plague of Ignorance that is taking America like wildfire by attacking science in the schools and rewriting the Deists out of our History textbooks?
Of course this is not all Christianity mind you, but that statement is an example of how we can take one teeny-tiny fraction of any religion and make all of that religion out to be like that teeny-tiny fraction. See how easy it is to make any religion look bad just by taking select stories and running wild with them?" - Yours truly
So yeah, I got to be an educator on Interfaith issues today as well as remember 9/11. Goddess, why is it that there are so many idiots in this world? Oh well, I should be out finishing shopping and such.
Peace out,
Lucian
