Female Furs are people too...well furry people

I have just about had it with the three big issues around females and the fandom. I am certain that you have heard about all of them and in some ways they are all related.
- Myth : There are no female furries just some artists and guys but no real females
- Myth : We don't need no females around here
- Myth : I am a female furry but I keep my real life separate but you should believe I am a girl.
This is not too complicated so please follow along.
Yes there are Female furries!
Females like furry characters. They like stuffed animals. They like comedy. They like guys (well most do). So of course there are female furs. And there would be more of them if the fandom had not had an influx of those that demand sex as part of fur and try to only support sex in furry. And, (this is a big secret so put your face next to the screen) FEMALES LIKE SEX, TOO! They just don't want every single picture to be sex. Every story being about using them as sexual toys and wh0res. They are people. Try making more art that is basically romantic and kind and loving. Ladies do like that hardcore stuff (Well some of them do) but a balanced plate of emotions is best for everyone.
I have also noticed on Secondlife a disturbing trend. It was bad enough that so many furs have decided (in stupidity) that straight people can be recruited to be BI/.gay (Yeah great way to try to convert the tolerant to homophobic guys) but also there are more then a few that have decided that female furs should be made to feel unwelcome and "we" don't need them. "We" do need them. Even if you are not a straight guy (or a bi/lesbian girl) looking for a mate or lover, we need them to be at home with us. We all have females we know - sisters, mothers, friends even daughters. We want them to be free to do and go where they like. Moreover one of the defining traits that we have and that holds us together is our acceptance of each other. If we don't say something and don't challenge these furs they we accept intolerance and hate based on what one is born as. I would not accept it against my gay bros and lesbian sisters... so why do you think that I would accept it against straight females. Even more importantly - will you?
Lastly, this is for the female furry. No unless you post your picture or talk to someone on Skype we do not believe you are female. This is not a character assassination. It is not a way to try to get your address to stalk you. What you just have to do is accept that because the RPG females (aka fakefems) out number your gender, no one will believe you are a a female. So expect to be treated as almost a guy. Yes that will not be really like you are used to being treated. Unless you are a well known artist, no one knows that you are a real female but you. If you care, go on Skype make a id just for verification and if anyone you care to make sure they know you really are a girl (for example, you are feeling close to them as a lover or "just a friend") then you have them call you on skype and you let them hear your voice. They can't find you as Skype will keep your IP effectively hidden from all but the very most talented and effective hackers (there are VERY VERY few of these on the net). And then they will talk to you more like a girl. I don't know if that is what you like but unless you like male humor it is a thought.
My main point to you ladies is that we want you here. We want you to bring your friends and be happy with the rest of us. if you bring enough of your girlfriends around then thing may change. And I want things to change for the better.

But it is true. The only time you see female furs is in the hardcore pron. We have a soul, mind and heart as well. I sense a furry-feminism movement on the way. We need our furry rights too. We're not just the man's bitch.

Luckily I haven't noticed anyone excluding females. Only sometimes I get a comment how a particular picture of a female character would would be better as male. ^^
I've never had a problem with being a furry female in SL. Most of my friends are male anyway but we all tend to avoid the clubs. The worst I get are the people playing human characters and egotistical dragons giving me a hard time for being furry in general or just flat out being female. I get more harassment for being female in SL and RL than I get for being a furry female :/ Apparently to most men being female means I'm stupid.

Agreed! It seems both online and at some furmeets straight *gasp* females are treated, rather creepily, like gold dust. So help you god if you like the porn too.
Being a straight/bi female and a fur can be so difficult but sometimes it's best that the straight males do think you're male as the amount of straight males that will constantly bother you wanting to 'get' with you and the amount of 'hardcore' porn of female furs makes it look like female furs only want it hardcore and are virtually whores. To some extent I like to be treated as a male since it suits my personality but sometimes it would be nice to be recognized as a female and not have so much grief for it. I once got told I'm not a fur because you literally have to have male genitals to be a fur.
Also I get sexist comments because I love computers and last year I completed the BTEC First Diploma for ICT Practitioners and the guys looked down to me thinking because I'm a girl I know nothing, I did show them up however because I got the highest grade you can get when most of them failed. Even my english exam had a question saying 'why isn't the IT profession suitable for females?' Unfortunately I don't think females will ever be accepted equally into anything.
I understand that males really want females like you but it is a three edged sword. When they don't' say anything I get the feeling that "geek girls" (With help from the other mothers and 'popular" girls) get the feeling like they are not as sexy and lovable as the the bleached blond "hot" girls. That is not true cause sexy is in knowing yourself and being proud of what you do most of all. Being sexy is knowing the one in the mirror is as sexy as anyone on TV not cause of what you see but who you are.
The second sword being that guys (like girls) like people that like what they like. We all look for contrast in relationships not real differences but things that compliment but thanks to the aforementioned moms and "Pretty girls" reducing the number of geek girls much lower then it shuold be. So guys fight harder for the few that they see. I am not at all saying disrespect is okay. You have a right to choose who you like but they are desperate to find that person too. That is how this sword cuts everyone.
The last blade is just as bad as the others, these guys just don't see that if you left your RL (Mate/lover/etc) for them then what would stop you the next time a male came around. Why not leave for the next prettier guy. It is not right and puts you in a unacceptable position. They would not want their sister/mom/daugheter put in to such a position. Sometimes I wish that they would think of you as a sister before they started pushing. So that some of the worst offenders could see what they are doing.
I wish I had a solution for it all. We all deserve happiness.. but not at the expense of the happiness of others. Furry females have every reason to have that happiness and even I (single and hating every minute of it) think that this is the kind of thing that we have to understand and deal with. To make this a better fandom for everyone.
(FYI 'girls' means just females in general not saying anyone here is a young female just as I talk about guys as a general term for males.)
thanks for speaking out about this; I can Rp as a fem but I know several RL furry fems and I very much enjoy their company, viewpoint, and thoughts on many things.
it saddens me when some furs decide to play the bigot line, as one of the reasons for joining the fandom is to get away from such nonsense. Thanks for speaking out:)
Don't get me wrong, I am not generalising about all guys here, but quite a few I've met form experience. Just my 2 cents.
I actually have no idea how you fell, me being a straight guy and all, but I can definitely see where you are coming from. We need more women! XD, I'm a horrible person, ignore that last sentence.
But seriously, yeah, I would feel kinda strange if the furry fandom was all guys...
I want to be talked to like I'm an intelligent human being of no specific stereotypical gender.

I am proud to be one of the few female furries that do draw decently and write well and not everything is smut.
