We'd Like Your Thoughts
So, whether it's the new restrictions we've enacted on the site, or maybe just the time of year, the number of auctions on FurBuy is getting down to the lowest it's been in over a year now. We're curious whether or not any of you folks have any suggestions or feedback about the site and how it's being run, because we never hear from you guys enough. Given that Thanksgiving is almost here, it's the time of year to hear from you guys about what you're thankful for concerning FurBuy, and what you'd be thankful to see in the near future. We're hoping that hearing from our audience and userbase will help inspire us to do a better job, build some new features, or just keep on doing a good job if that's what you're thinking.
So, how are we doing? What can we improve for you? What would encourage you to help us out by becoming a contributing member at $18 per year?
We have seen some sellers hitting the new barrier that limits free users to $400 in sales per calendar year, and we really apologize but we have to keep tightening the features until we reach a balance in income to keep the servers up and running. If it comes down to simply not being able to pay for itself somehow, FurBuy will have to go down. We don't want that, honestly, and we'd guess that none of you do either. But we've been having a hard time lately with the finances and floating a system that's really not bringing in much of what it needs to stay alive. We hope you guys understand.
Thanks, and Happy Holidays.

I sincerely hope that things pick up. I prefer furbuy over other auctions sites i've seen! I know in the new year i will be subscribing again and buying ad space but by then it might be too late for you guys. D:
i know the bars at the top indicating how much has been donated should be enough of a kick for people.. but perhaps get people motivated in doing auctions with proceeds to furbuy again? Perhaps if they raise a certain amount they get something back? Ad space? Couple month subscription to the site? -flails-
No idea if itll work again. But it might be worth a shot.
It feels like 99% of the users don't care about the future of the site, even though it's such a huge and useful marketplace. =/
And thanks again for the support auction, even if it didn't do well we appreciate the thought and the effort.
And that's pretty much it. =]
The progression with stores is still on the table, but moving slowly because we haven't heard a lot of feedback or interest from folks. We're also not sure if it will help pay for the site or how we can work it into a strategy to help folks help us. There are also some other higher priority things on the list. (Feedback from users can help bump it up though...)
And a messaging system is now in the works, though we're a bit worried about how FA will react to us "stealing their thunder" by duplicating features and such. We had hoped that by now, we'd have a much deeper integration with FA than we have now, but FA's dev team has been awkward and slammed with dealing with FA issues, no time for working on any 3rd party site integration yet. No signs of that changing anytime soon though. =/
So yes, the upcoming FurBuy notification system will allow PMs and watchlists (similar to FA, but for auctions and items and such) among other things. But no ETA on when that will be done yet, we're still trying to prioritize it in the list of things to do.
disclaimer: I don't sell or buy anything on auctions, so take the opinions of actual users before mine. I've considered selling stuff through online auction, and FurBuy would be my first choice if my product is remotely furry-related.
Due to a large backlash from users, we've raised the free auction limit to US$900 per calendar year and removed all of the wording about US taxes from the new restrictions.
However, to help compensate a little, we are likely going to start factoring in the Current Bid Price and Opening Bid Price of live/new auctions to that calculation. Otherwise there's nothing to stop someone from listing 3 auctions at once with an opening bid of $1,000 each in order to circumvent the current restrictions. They are there to help support the site, and if you're going to make more than $900 from FurBuy, we think that a 2% contribution of $18 to not only have that limit removed bu also get all of the improved features that membership comes with is a pretty good deal.
Looks like you're driving the site in to the ground by your ignorant business practices.
How is asking that folks who make more than $900 in one calendar year contribute a one-time $18 membership fee (2% of their profit up to that point) in order to continue listing new items IGNORANT of us? Do you need to be reminded that almost EVERY business site online (including eBay, all furry conventions, Etsy, Furbid, etc.) charges at least an 8% commission fee for EACH item sold? And on top of that they nickel-and-dime you for features to boot.
If we're doing ANYTHING "ignorant", we're ignoring our need to pay the bills by offering folks a huge BARGAIN. And making it really simple for them to obtain.
How much internet buying and selling do you do, again?
Everything you and the team are doing is reasonable and I support you. I wouldn't mind if you took a percetage from the sale either, that is how most sites as you mentioned worked.
As a user of Furbuy, I'm grateful for the service and that you guys kept it free as long as you could. It is certainly not asking for too much for a bit of support.
$18 is nothing when you make $900.
How hard is it for you to set aside $1.50 a month? Don't buy a soda or something.
Again thank you and the Furbuy team. I will be supporting you with the membership at the moment and plan to do some auctions in the future where I can give you a percentage of the final bid.
