[Wonderland Card Deck COLLAB Project - update 28 Apr]

This large project is an idea I have become enamored with, though because I know my limitations I would like to turn it into a collaborative effort. There will be restrictions, however! If you want to contribute, you will have to apply, as well as adhering to certain guidelines and a template. If you are not an artist, you can still be part of this deck via commission. If you don't want to be part of the deck, but think it would be a cool thing to have, send me a note with the subject "DECK PREORDER" and I will contact you when it's ready for production (Price will be $25 for those not in the deck). Finally, please spread the word if you likeu the idea!

INTERESTED COMMISSIONERS, LIST OF ARTISTS AVAILABLE FOR CARD COMMISSION AT THE BOTTOM.
1.) Dimensions for art is 400x640 or larger of same ratio, 300 dpi(use backgrounds provided as template). MUST BE DIGITAL though preliminary sketches may of course be traditional. They will be converted into cmyk so if you know how to put it in this mode already that would be great.
2.) Suit backgrounds will be provided for 2-10 cards.
3.) 2-7 characters will be portrayed as COMMONERS or SOLDIERS. Commoners include farmers, laborers, cooks, smiths, musicians, artists, etc. 8-10 characters may be portrayed as upper-class; merchants, baron/esses, knights, etc. Obviously face cards are nobility. Aces should be interesting roles that don't fit elsewhere, such as an advisor (think vizier), champion, assassin, or general.
3a.) Face cards should be bust/portrait, to emphasize they are, in fact, "face" cards lol. Common cards should have smaller-scaled characters. The exception is Alice, feel free to interpret how you think an alice card should look however you want.
4.) Prominent card roles, as noted below, must be applied for whether you are an artist or a commissioner. Edit: Applications will remain open until Apr 18th until further notice.
4a.) If an artist chooses to design a character specifically for the role, rather than portraying an existing character in that role, they will be more likely to be considered to fill it.
4b.) Commissioners must submit the backstory for their character, if there is one; or if it is a fursona, describe themselves and why they would be best for that role.
4c.) Limit one major role per person (for now).
5.) Cards will only be reserved once preliminary art is approved, or payment received for commissioners.
6.) Deadline for card reservations is April 18th, final artwork due by April 24. If all cards have not been filled by the deadline, the deck will not be ready by Morphicon and thus the project deadline will disappear.
7.) Just because you do art for the deck doesn't mean you get it free! It is EXPENSIVE to get a custom card deck printed and you must be willing to pay up to $20 for a deck; if you are able to get pre-orders from other people who want one, the price may go down. Either way, money will have to be collected before the decks can be produced and shipped out. If you're not willing to buy a deck, you are not eligible to be in it. The price is $20 per deck for commissioners and $25 for anyone else.
8.) After the first run of deck production, any artist that contributed art to the project will be given the entire pdf file which can be used to have more decks produced for sale by the artist, if so desired. In other words, all artists participating in the project give their permission for any other project artist to sell the deck for their own profit.
That's all I can think of, if anyone has suggestions I am open to them, since this is my first time trying to organize something like this.

- Ace of Clubs - Mad Hatter; No species restriction. The only character dressed in Mad Hatter attire.

If a character commission rather than an artist submission of a caterpillar, am thinking it could be the person's character bust on a caterpillar body, taur-like. smoking a hookah on a mushroom, of course. The King of clubs (clover.. cloves.. smoking.. okay maybe that's a little stretched but I dun care!) AVAILABLE
- Jack of Hearts - this knave stole the Queen's tarts! off with his head! TAKEN
Optional Character roles: These characters are not locked to their card number, but they will get a card regardless of whether the slot is filled by someone's character. Seeking artists to volunteer to do them, you will be able to sell decks by contributing just one card.
- Bill the Lizard - obviously any scaley character, dressed in overalls with a tool belt. Thinking four of spades, as he appears in chapter 4 and a spade is a tool. AVAILABLE
- The Mock Turtle - A cow character in a turtle costume. Lol. To be drawn by sticky-bubblegum
- The March Hare - hare character with a costume similar to the mad hatter TAKEN
-Tweedle Dee & Dum - The only card that would have two characters on it, 2 of clubs Claimed
- The Gryphon. He's a gryphon. o_o Claimed
- The Jabberwock - while not technically a Wonderland character, it is in the well-known poem read by Alice in Through the Looking Glass so... yay for teeth that bite and claws that snatch. Claimed

If you choose to commission me for a card you must pay before the image is done, however I will keep in contact with you in regards to progress if you so desire (ONLY IF YOU ARE ABLE TO REPLY QUICKLY), you can see all the stages from sketch, line, flat colors, to finish and may request edits in any of those stages. Details as follows:
$15 for a number card (Fairly plain costumage (likely a tabard w/ their number/suit) and pose, no accessories other than associated with suit, reused bg common to rest of suit)
$30 for Ace, Joker, or face cards (or special roles) (these will have more elaborate costumage and can have custom poses, more accessories, and a more personalized background, if desired)
PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE DECK - There will be an additional $20 due once the deck is complete (A bulk order of 54 decks is about $15 per deck, not including fees/shipping). However, keep in mind that if the project isn't finished before Morphicon (May 12), it could be some time before the deck is ready to be produced. A large file of your image with your name added (not included on the card itself) will be e-mailed to you for use as a badge, if you want it. For $5 extra I can laminate/clip the badge and mail it to you. For $10, same but it will be double-sided to have the card back.
So, is anyone interested? If you're neither an artist nor want to be in the deck, please spread the word about it anyway!

I need to see the first couple card preliminary art you do to ensure it is in keeping with the suit/number roles; once you've made say 2, you can just submit the final product.
Remember to emphasize that by commisioning a card, they are also committing to buying a deck. You may also advertise deck pre-orders; you would collect however much you choose to charge for a deck (est. $20 min ) about a week before they're ready for production, then tell me how many you have. Depending on how many total preorders we get, I will let you know how much the per-deck price is, including shipping (I will mail all your preorder decks to you, it is then up to you to distribute them). Whatever the difference is between what you charged and what I tell you you owe for the #of decks you want is your profit.
I should be able to give you a firm yes or no answer within a few days.

It has more info specifically for artists in it (and I just updated it with more stuff). As for paid work, that is the thing; you can advertise to your own watchers that you are taking commissions to put THEIR characters on cards. If you did 2-3 cards of your own you would be obligated to buy that many decks, that's why it's best to have a commissioner buy a card slot from you with the understanding they also will have to purchase a deck. Then any other pre-orders you can get are just extra (and you could charge less per deck so maybe more people would preorder) since you would already have been paid for the art by your commissioners.
As for the Queen of Hearts spot, while it hasn't been *officially* decided I have one potential commissioner interested in it who I've known for a while and whose character really fits the bloodthirsty nature of the Queen, as well as fitting the image I conceived of her in my head (originally thought of her as a leopard since their markings are "rosettes" and his character is a white leopard). However, there is the Ace of Hearts available, and of course various number cards.
I've put an advert out for it but no interest as of yet by my watchers, so i'll let you know in a few days.

1. If I was to create my own picture and it was approved, I would only need to pay the price of the deck once published correct?
2. Would the Cheshire cat need to be specifically a cat? My fursona is a Cheshire Fox.
3. If I wanted to try out for either of the jokers, what kind of things would need to be known in regards to the character? [aka, would you need to see a mock up first etc etc]
4. When would you need the money for the deck by?
5. If I was to become an artist for it, is there a minimum amount to charge each card or is it totally up to me?

Good luck with the project though. I'd love to have my character in it, but I don't have up to 50$ to spend on this; the min 15$ for the card commission and then the 25-30+ for a deck. And I really would have only wanted a deck because of my character being in it. Suggesting being a artist was a way around most of the cost cause if I was commissioned for a card; I could practically get the money I needed for the deck itself lol.
But once again, good luck; hope you make it by the deadline.

Well for description or backstory kinda both I guess well pretty much my charcter is me which is weird and mysterious as I keep myself hidden just like my charcter mates say im weird yet funny because of what I do to myself like change some parts of my hair blue, I just try to make people laugh or smile.
Either way I feel like I wont be getting it either way, if I dont get it I dont really mind the same if I dont get the Joker.

If that doesn't help, do you at least have an idea of what you'd like your "role" to be? Just a few ideas: 2-7 characters will be portrayed as COMMONERS or SOLDIERS. Commoners include farmers, laborers, cooks, smiths, musicians, artists, etc. 8-10 characters may be portrayed as upper-class; merchants, courtiers, knights, etc

... Heheh. I'm not really surprised. Honestly, it's always a slot that holds high regards, always goes rather quickly, and always has plenty of people vying for it even after it's set. And it's rather sad, too. It seems like it's the only character that people recognize (outside of Alice herself) but it's the character that caused Lewis the greatest heartache, as everyone always gets her confused for the Red Queen. And visa versa. It's ... well, like I said, sad.

I'm no artist, but I would've like to have tried to get a commish done. Sadly, looks like I'm late to the party; looks like all the high cards are taken, and the 8 of Clubs is the only "upper-middle" class slot left...it might work. But I'd have to think of what kind of outfit I'd wear, if I were even eligible...
Anyways. I need to look at some of the artists galleries, should I find a style I like.
