So Why an Intersex?
I get asked this question alot. And although I've always had an answer I've really always given a watered down simplified reply to folks because I've been asked quite repeatedly and honestly it gets annoying to answer the same question over and over. So for both me and others who are curious, either now or later I figured I'd write up an actual more indepth perspective. Something that I can always refer back to at my own leisure.
1. First and foremost when I came up with this concept I had at no point in my life ever heard of "C*ntboys" or "intersex genders". The fandom labeled me as such and honestly at the time I didn't know of anything else that was as fitting.
2. One of the main reasons that lead me to create my character this way is because I wanted something that was devoid of the negative stereotypes and pressures that is common between the binary genders, male and female. Frankly those pressures and stereotypes have always made me uncomfortable and it's a sad thing to see in society and interact with.
If you think about that for a bit you should be able to get an idea why Drayk's Upper Half is Male dominant, and his lower half is Female Dominant.
Upper Half
Women in general face all kinds of pressures on the appearance of their body, especially when it comes to their bust size when both growing up and in interactions as adults ranging from relationships to job environments. Mentally they also face an Overly Emotional Stereotype, which although that isn't true for all women, I can say from experience working in a call center, that a fair amount of Women are prone to emotion compared to Men. Men don't face as many stereotypes above the belt in my opinion.
Lower Half
Men here face quite a bit of pressure pushed onto them by the media. Insecurity forced upon them by either themselves or the pornographic impression they get that they need to be 8 inches and more in order to be adequate.
In general Women have more pressures and stereotypes about their person above the belt, while I see Men having more below the belt. Because of these reasons is why Drayk's upper half is Male, physically and Mentally, and his lower Half Female. I find this combines the best of both worlds to me as an individual and is absent alot of pressures and stereotypes that Men and Women would normally feel.
Personality Wise, Drayk is fairly balanced, with a Male Bias, however avoiding overly male stereotypes and a Bi-sexuality that is attracted to Females despite not having the so called equipment. In general he's humorous and down to earth, open minded and very easy going, based on my own personality. That kinda guy you feel you can always hang around with and just relax, or even share things with and not expect to be judged unfairly.
Questions I would expect from this.
1 "But Drayk what about all the porn you get? Aren't you just about sex?"
Although porn is fun it's really something that other people tend to involve me in. Just about 90% of the porn you see me in is a Gift from others, or I did it as a Contest for my watchers, or as Gifts for others to help out an artist at the time. Most of the stuff that I personally commission is non-sexual or comedic.
2 "But Cboys are just flat chested girls."
If that's as far as your argument goes then you're focusing on nothing but genitals and dismissing a persons mentality/personality completely.
Put Angelina Jolie & Jason Stathom side by side, Take away Jason's penis, now tell me that they're the same?
IE: Changing someone below the belt, doesn't change WHO they are above it.
3 "If you don't like male or females why didn't you just be a herm?"
I'm not saying I don't like them, I just don't like the pressures/stereotypes that society often places upon them. One of the goals for my creation was to avoid that kind of sexualized persective that herms often portray as they bulge out so far that clothing really shouldn't even be bothered with.
I may add to this later as people bring to me more questions and thoughts. But I hope this provides people with more insight.

"I CAN HAVE A VAG.. AND NO BOOBS? And still be a guy??? OMG WIN"
... ... ...note to self: no more talking about self when other men are involved. ._.
Heh, some furs just make me lol.
Though I'm not 100% sure why my 'sona is what it is.
See, it makes me happy when furs are willing to think fora moment about the whys and wherefores of what they chose to represent themselves. Especially since most furries I know picked their species based entirely on either
A: Stereotypes (Fox, husky, wolf, horse, etc.)
or B: How they look (see above )
Plus, I get so tired of people I know deciding on something like, say, a horse, just because "They have huge dicks~!"
And believe me, I have seen those people. Hell, I lived with at least one, for quite a while.
Well, most furs I know don't think that far. ^_^
that just made me giggle to myself~
Anywho, yeah, way to many fur have sexual motivations in their characters~
For me its more about what best represents who I am, and my desire to be unique, in my own eyes.
But I agree with this, as the character best representing who someone is. It's a visual representation, I'd like to think.
And I like this journal entry.
I didn't completely get the comparison thing, but that's because I'm not all too familiar with actors or the likes in general.[/align]
"you must construct additional pyl-"
"SHUT UP ALREADY"
I am now glad I did, this was a very interesting little read, thank you. n.n
I still don't really know the whole thing of why, but this journal did make me think of a few things :3
Wait, you're not one of those crazy Separationists, are you? I heard they were plotting to rise up as some kind of scaly republic of... scaly thing.
What about the wrist baldes?
I dunno man, I think that'd piss a lot of people off.
personaly im gonna ask this though are you one irl? did you ever wish to be one? would you become one? these few are what i came up with in seconds.
btw im actualy planning on becoming one irl myself ive made my decision on it after digging into what genders actualy exist.
hell ive noticed people dont share the trans in a common level in society or cboys or shemales i really think society doesnt tell people early on is because the think something must be wrong to make such a decision, personally things like this tick me off but when im done with the stuff i think i may do an actual trip to a local school and give a single speech in some SEX ED classes for good measure.
though your OC's personality seems just right to me.
Well done drayk, well done.
Because they are sexy boyz :3
BUT GOD DOESN'T APPROVE OF CBOYS
:C
god still doesn't approve :3
=D *high fives*
I never really thought about it like that.
IRL I tend to consider myself genderqueer, I tend to think a bit more like a male. (Which is probably why my first fursona is a dude, and my current one can go herm. >.>; )
Nah I kid. <3 I like you a lot. For you. The "difference" (which the concept of something being different from the average is something that I've always been attracted to in general) is a bonus. :V
Or should, anyway... I do see your point, Drayk and I would have to say that I agree on all points. Society and it's sterotypes is a sad, sad thing and it's good to see you found a good way to eliminate most, if not all, of those stereotypes for your character.
I've always played my dragon as a hermaphrodite, based on the same reasons as you play a c-boy. And I have a flat chest without even nipples, that have caused a lot of consternation. "But aren't you a herm!?"
Regards,
Irwin
This was a great read Drayk, you are a sodding Awesome fella :)
Sounds good, explains a lot and it's great to get an in depth look into that. I always figured it was cause it was fun :P
He started off as an anatomically correct avian, so he had a cloaca, I figured that this was going to get confused with a vagina fairly frequently and was getting bored of the usual attributes furry characters tend to have. I remember stumbling upon one or two c-boy commissions, (I think they might have been yours), and decided that it would be a somewhat fun idea to implement.
The change wasn't massive as at the time he was a new character and there was technically only a very small anatomical change since most birds lack a proper functioning penis anyway. o:
BRAVO! you earned my respect today...
really, the only reason why i like these stereotypes and pressures is because they give some good comic strip ideas, but when it is applied to the person, not the character, it do makes me feel quite sad... i think it were about time we killed these "society rules" especially because it keeps us from doing EVERYTHING
why a cboy? cuz he's naturally free of pressure (which could be ultimatly good, or really bad, but that is more related to raising, and i don't think you actually have a dragon living in your house...)
but stereotype pressures are more logic if there IS a large number, i don't see many cboys, so stereotypes are uncalled or are work of a troll (FUCK TROLLS!)
oh well, but you got a pretty creative escape from the stereotypes, and i think that IS the big prize, so you got a biiiiiiiiiiit of my admiration today... (too bad we don't have much people on the actual society thinking of stuff this way)
Man, ain't this an inspiration XD

"YOUR NOT A FURRY SHE HAS A HUMAN FACE."
or
"SHES NOT AN ANIMAL."
Maybe i should so something like this xD
Kids are silly. Besides I like your human face :O it suits you very nicely with the design you have for your character. Very alluring too as well.
what's the gender of the person behind character. for those that are too slow/stupid/clueless/lazy to pay attention or look around.
in before creeps >.>
That said, I've always loved your character, especially the 'story' pictures as opposed to the porn ones <3
I actually do get sick of all the herms all the time. It gets really old.
Your fursona is really cool in the sense that he's just a modest individual. Makes him fun to observe in all pictures, pornographic or not.
And to answer any other questions others may have I give them... A boot to the head! >:3
Would you like to post this on Facebook or twitter? :V
But seriously, well written. It was thought out, unlike other journal posts that just scream "furcicution!!1!" and that's it.
he has Baileys, very creamy, and and watercolors.
Totally need to commission ya again when I can .. I love snagging your slots :D
You know I like working with you, mmm bloody!
and glad you like working with me.. I'd be sad if you disliked it lol
Though, and please, don't take offense to this, I'm not trying to start anything by any means, some small part of me thinks it a bit cowardly to hide from something that everyone else on earth has to live with every day. Everyone is subjected to the nasty stereotypes and pressures of being a certain gender, some more than others. I wonder what kind of mental --or even physical-- effects would come of NOT being subject to such things...
You and I should talk sometime. I think we'd have a lot in common, or at least, much to discuss.
And naw don't feel bad xD nothing wrong with voicing yourself such as this.
Second, I do have to offer, what is possibly not a discrepancy with your idea and goal, but really more of a footnote.
If my interpretation of your idea is correct, you sought to create a character devoid of the societal pressure upon its body, which is admirable. Take my words with a grain of salt, as they could apply to anyone who designs a character on this website.
When you seek to design a character devoid of social pressure, notice that you did, to a certain extent: Drayk's upper half is masculine, avoiding the pressure that society places upon women, and the lower half is feminine, avoiding the pressure that society places upon men. I would argue, however, that in your efforts to avoid, or circumvent, society's pressures, you are also forced to not only accept the societal norms, but reinforce them. I would also argue that you have no other option in the matter, so it's understandable.
Notice that Drayk's upper, masculine half, conforms to the societal norm of what an attractive male torso should be. It is toned, shapely, defined, devoid of any noticeable body fat. the same with his abs and arms, they are toned, defined, slim, and lean. His face is handsome, cute, well proportioned, and his grin is a charming, cunning smirk. His upper, masculine half, is a representation of what society deems an "attractive male" to be.
Notice that Drayk's lower, feminine half is shapely, voluptuous, curvaceous. The butt is round and shapely, but not too big, it runs that fine line of attractive and feminine, while not overly large. His legs are long, thin, smooth, and shapely as well, again what the "ideal feminine figure" would appear to be. His tail is thin, and usually is depicted as behaving in ideal effeminate ways: graceful, playful, seductive, often curling around himself or his lover as a girl would use her finger, or hair.
Notice that, in your efforts to evade social pressures, you have still accepted and reinforced them: by creating a character who fit in with the "ideal image of beauty" with both genders. Even though the male receives less societal pressure over his torso than a female would for hers, he still is under societal pressure: particularly to be fit, trim, defined, toned, and handsome. Even though a female may not receive as much societal pressure over her lower half as a male would for his, she still experiences pressure. Particularly, if her ass is too big (even though this is seen as attractive in some subcultures, predominantly in our society this isn't seen as attractive), or too small, she is deemed unattractive. If her legs are not thin, shapely, smooth, toned she is not seen as attractive. In your efforts to evade the societal pressures placed upon the two genders, you have to accepted them.
I would argue, further, that this is "not your fault", or "you had to do this". You don't really have a choice in the matter. The environment, society, shapes our behavior, it creates our notions of "beauty" and "attractive", and we accept this without realizing that we are doing so. To us it feels natural, it is something we don't think about, we see this as "attractive" and live our daily lives without a second thought. So I would say that my words are not in any way a rebuttal to your point, and the footnote isn't even really that critical at all, as it would apply to everyone on this website, including me: as the only alternative to creating a character that our society deems attractive is to create a character that many people on this website would deem unattractive, which, most of us wouldn't want. We want our characters to be attractive. As I said, my point is not to be critical of your efforts, but rather my point is: you can't fully escape from societal pressures, merely in creating an attractive character, of any gender, you accept them.
I would just like to say again that I really do appreciate your goal, and am thrilled to find another person on this website who notices and cares about these sorts of issues enough to allow it to affect his creative process. I've always enjoyed your taste in art commissions, personality, and now am happy to find you have a mind to go with it. Interesting journal, my friend. =)
Any clarifications, mistakes, or questions you noticed or have just say.
Again, really well made comment. Thanks.
~ Zenny
On another note, your reasoning makes perfect sense, as I've seen many such prejudices and stereotypes that you mention. So your reason for your character makes a lot of sense. Also, kudos to having the character with your own personality, my main character is the same. There don't seem to be many people out there like that, strangely enough (I thought there would be a lot, but most I meet are nothing like there characters).
Drayk in particular is per his species male in many aspects and he was born as such. Just with a biological mutation where his genitalia was mismatched.
aaah i love how diverse this fandom is <3
I can't tell you how many times people have messaged me saying.
"Drayk, I love your character, he inspired me to make one of my own."
I go to their page to see their character, And I swear to god it's like the most femmiest femboi they could get away with that you sear they're just an underage girl. It's fucking infuriating xD
Yeah I get the feeling most people pay more attention to the look of the char and don't care about the rest. Reading this was actually really interesting :D It's rare to see such social-view thought going into a character, especially in a fandom that is very thoroughly sexualized. Thanks for replying :D
I swear all my followers really just want an excuse to look like underage girls :<
I can get liking girlyboys, but if you're gonna make an intersex/cboy char, isn't the entire point that they have guyish traits? Seems like they're missing the point :V
It's not supposed to be a competition D:
<( Well I am cold blooded afterall ;D )
TL;DR God was drunk when he put me together ...
surprised you found this journal too xD don't expect people to come across it very often.
Its odd...but my own reasons are a near perfect opposite. Manhood and passivity don't culturally mix well...ditching the package just makes it easier to let go and not care about male expectations, but to me its the idea of being a passive creature completely suited for being receptive...no other options even available...without having to make the jump to complete femininity. I envy women in some ways...but don't find them sexually attractive...so I guess its a way to take something from them that I envy without becoming something I have no interest in.
Anyhow...the post above...it just makes me think and contemplate...and wonder about myself. I think I'd like a healthier self image. Thanks for accidentally providing something that made me think to look for one
Until now, I wasn't even aware of the fact that your character was a c-boy. I will admit, I dislike them quite a bit. Not because I "hate vaginas because they r gross". Not at all. I don't like herms because to me they are characters that were built just to get it from anybody and everybody, regardless of sexual preferences. I'm not saying that herms, shemales and c-boys are the same thing, because they are not. I'm saying that it seems to me like the majority of characters with these "genders" are sex machines. Quite a few c-boys on FA are gay boys, as well. With gay partners. And it baffles me as to why they chose c-boys as their sonas if they are not attracted to female genitalia. I just don't understand it.
That said, you seem to have quite an interesting view of gender, and I do applaud you for your ingenuity on the matter. It's actually quite interesting, and I think it's a wonderful idea. It's really strange to see someone put so much thought into something as simple as why they chose the gender(or lack thereof) that they did. I quietly accept the gender identities and orientations that I see all over this site and try to keep from pissing people off with my opinions, but this is actually incredibly well thought-out. I suppose that I'm trying to say that I find your version of a c-boy tasteful, and I'll just have to add you to my little list of exceptions. ;3 It's quite rare that you come across a 'sona with so much thought put into it. You have "wow"ed me.
I'll be honest and say that according to many folks, I'm the reason why cboys are so prominent in the fandom, however sadly alot of them did not really follow the example of what Drayk really IS.
Drayk's character is one of complication and deformity through birth to the extent that it literally makes him different in the social order of his entire species. He grew up completely different from those of his male beta types. But again sadly alot of folks see the whole cboy thing and are like. "OH COOL, an excuse to put a vag on my dude-sona" and that's about as far as they go with it. That or some cockamamie "Yeah magic happened, my penis poofed and now I have a vag because of some *insert bizarre event*" story xD
I do appreciate the comment :) It goes far to make me feel a step above alot of the sonas you see that just seemed to jump on teh bandwagon that I somehow got rolling long long ago.
Do you have trouble understanding why people choose a straight male sona if they're not attracted to male genitalia too?
Or straight female sonas if they're not attracted to female genitals?
Seems to me like basically the same issue, logically.
And honestly I probably need to revamp this was further thoughts and what not.. but we'll see
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4152394/
She said she might delete the journal once the better understands the whole issue, and I think my comment has value and shouldn't be lost, so I'll re-post it here since it's a fairly similar topic.
I hope that's okay with you.
Girls have boobies, and are girls.
These guys are just dudes who would rather have a vag than a dick. They're happy with all the rest of being a gay male, it's just a different personal genital preference.
Perhaps I'm a little more enlightened on issues of sex and gender because my partner is Trans, but it doesn't seem all that complicated to me.
There are a few different variables to consider and each can be mixed and matched to create a unique outcome.
There's Gender Identity i.e. Man or Woman. How you think of yourself, and what pronouns you want people to use when referring to you (He, She, etc.)
There's Primary Sexual Characteristics i.e. Genitals, Dick or Vag, or both?
There's Secondary Sexual Characteristics i.e. Boobs, facial and body hair, body shape and fat distribution patterns.
Those all define what the person is.
And then there's sexual orientation, which defines what the person is attracted to.
However, when you've got such a complex set of variables defining what a person is, simple labels for sexuality like straight, gay and bi kind of don't suffice.
The most useful way to define it all then would be something like this:
I am a (Gender Identity), with (Primary Sexual Characteristics), and (Secondary Sexual Characteristics), and I like people who are (Gender Identity), with (Primary Sexual Characteristics), and (Secondary Sexual Characteristics)
You just replace the parts in the brackets as needed.
So for example, one gay cuntboy might say:
I am a Man, with a vagina, and masculine body shape, chest shape and hair patterns, and I like people who are Men with penises and masculine body shape, chest shape and hair patterns.
Another gay cuntboy might say:
I am a Man, with a vagina, a petite effeminite masculine body shape, male chest shape and no body or facial hair, and I like people who are Men with vaginas, big tough masculine body shapes, lots of body and facial hair, plus breasts, and like to use huge double ended dildos.
Both would fit into the simple term of "gay cuntboy", but they wouldn't be the same as each other, and they definitely wouldn't be the same as a flat chested woman.
The examples given relate to that, but my system of describing people by a combination of Gender, Primary Sexual Characteristics, and Secondary Sexual Characteristics can be applied to anyone and serves as a good way of helping people understand how limited the binary system of Only Male and Only Female is.
"However, when you've got such a complex set of variables defining what a person is, simple labels for sexuality like straight, gay and bi kind of don't suffice."
Not everyone is simple, thus they're not always simple to define like many others.

*Awkward silence*

Now what?
Women in general face all kinds of pressures on the appearance of their body, especially when it comes to their bust size when both growing up and in interactions as adults ranging from relationships to job environments.
Oh.
Oh, my feelings. :c This is such truth. The love/hate relationship I have with my idealized self and what I actually am is a huge reason why I have a male version of my character, because he's free of all that bullshit.
But I like you and the way you think.
i like your Character, not because he is a guy with female parts and good for simple porn, he is interesting to me because he is what he is and what stuff you are doing with him :3 a very respected character for me.
And sorry for being so late to reply, your comment got kinda drowned by all the comments from that murrsuit journal xD
and TO BE TOTALLY HONEST, I'd never ever draw my personal character in porn if A. i wasnt commissioned to do so and B. it didnt profit me ;~;
when i do buy art of my characters [which is rare] it's never of the pornographic persuasion. i myself actually prefer clean art...but as an artist i go where he $$ signs are D:
Hell I even came up with a cute general idea with Your character and mine until you told me you radiate no heat... I was like "Fucccck, my idea it doesn't work now!"
well HALCYON my firefox probably puts off some sort of body heat when shes mad, and shes always SOME level of mad!
but i myself dont ;w; im a freak of nature with ice cold skin bloobloo
Friend of mine once described it as. "Nothing better than someone you can casually have sex with and then chill and play games with right after.
So would it be appropriate to refer to Drayk as a "dude", for simplicity's sake?
[commenting on a 3 year old journal lol]
Who are we, really?
Outside all the fun he has a much deeper purpose, and I must say I take the dearest respect for that. The issue of stereotypes in a binary sex is indeed quite stressful. Any stereotype can be demeaning. Thanks for making this, it really did relieve quite a bit of curiosity.
He knows he's not entirely male, but that doesn't degrade how he feels about where he is in the species at all. He's still keen on fulfilling his Shurian duties as if nothing was different about him. Thank you though for taking the time to look past the quirky stereotypes and odd gifts that I've gotten to see what is a deeper character that I've established.
It may be rude to talk about other characters, but I did the same with Dominik, which was why I was drawn to Drayk; they were both designed around having very contrasting central attributes with valid reasons. As it is stressful for me to know that intersexes are associated with excessive effeminacy and sex drive. We expect them to parade their change of sex or be very aggressive about it. I'm very stressed that the typical soldier is thought of as this hyper masculine male; and one who was either violent and enjoyed killing. And to top it off he prefers very complex equipment and carrying extreme weight. I created Dominik as a soldier who was androgynous and preferred simple, minimalistic equipment. He doesn't enjoy killing, because he believes that the enemies had no chance know what they did wrong, or that they were drafted against their will. Yet he knew the job.
This is why I like your character. I created mine for very personal reasons, and I suppose you did the same.
This has me thinking I should do something similar (I mean, a journal with exposition).
You... Can probably piece together how the rest of that thread went. An easy 90% (I can even find the link), were either a "God of [___]" or "No weaknesses" or "Goodness me, my character is the God of everything and can do anything and is omniOMNI and Mary Sue and help me I have no originality"
It was an amazing read, it was.
Unlike drayk who.. his single power is more or less, shifting into a near invisible state. Not completely .. but near so.
He's not a 1 on 1 street fighter and all that shit. He can't pull off stupid anime bullshit. His weaknesses and strengths aren't some crap like supermans kryptonite.. xD
Give them flaws
Give them adversities to conquer
And have them be, for the love of GOD, reasonable and modest looking (in the exception of you just want to make them to have them be ridiculous xD
Like, damn, Tari was based nearly exactly on me. He has every trait I have, y'know, besides the obvious. I have a limp, he has a limp, I have fears, he has fears, it should be easy to understand a character the more relatable they are xD
This journal isn't really intended to make people sad xD
It shouldn't have to be that way, but until society gets its head screwed on with regards to how people judge bodies, it's easier to be this way for me.
It's not only heartwarming to read this, but also encouraging and moving in some aspects of the points you make.
I had never considered the stereotypes on such a level of body potions, nor have I considered this being an answer to suppressing them.
Me having a constant fear of falling under stereotypes, I thank you for opening my outlook on it.
It really made me smile to read this, and I'm glad my curiosity lead me to it.
Thanks for being yourself, Drayk.
Maybe I'll ask more about yourself in the next questionnaire journal you do.
And by all means you don't need to wait for questionnaires :)
Well done and written dude. Can dig.
I MUST get some Art with you, but in an SFW way~~
I still like the thought you put into it though! Its awesome...and I've never really thought about it that way before, but you're right when it comes to the pressures and I can see how being a cuntboy could give you the best of both worlds.
>.>
<.<
It's hard to tell a number of them from under age girls
It's always been about the personality that effects our interactions with one another from being young to the days we are old and withered, despite the constant distraction and obsession with genitals. Personality is more fulfilling than any other aspect of a person in my opinion.
So thanks again and keep up the comedic commishes. Those things crack me up every time. Your humor is on point.

I just wanted to say, I really appreciate the thought you've put into character design choices. It really shows with how unique and iconic your character is.
Stay awesome!
every now and then I look at a comment and forget to reply!
I appreciate the comment :3
It's been a heck of a ride over the years to say the least as Drayk has developed and even grown a family around him!
Thank you for the conciseness and general good feeling behind this post.
I've watched you from afar, seeing you all over this website from time to time.
I think I'll actually hit the button now, though.
Keep being awesome!

Glad this journal was able to bring about some goodness for ya :3
And to answer mostly it's basically to answer folks who sometimes used to ask "So why is Drayk a Cboy?" and that's just about it :>
I will say that a downside is that sometimes that doesn't always come across well in some artists styles xD
