Well, you might also find that if you should ever bring this to Eurofurence, you won't be taking him out and about, as they simply won't allow body paint, due to some moron who didn't understand that you shouldn't hug fursuiters when bodypainted :P Just so you know :)

Other than that, i personally greatly enjoy partially body paint based outfits, and shall be looking forward to seeing more of it :)

Personally, I think you should go with a modified SPANDEX suit. Body paint is very messy and can cause issues. One thing I see is when you're traveling, if they'll even let you bring that much liquid substance on a place with the new security regs. I had thought about doing something similar, but in the end, a modified spandex bodysuit would be easily reusable, and far more comfortable.

If you get some good quality latex based body paint, you won't have to worry about its durability and lasting a long time

Seems like it would be pretty expensive to do that each time you go to a con, not to mention what security would think if you tried to bring that on a plane. The site sexywhitetiger mentioned even says on their site "Our paints will last for hours of fun!" I would suggest getting a spandex suit or something like that.

Short of getting tattooed (and actually ask yourself why the fuck not?), there's Henna, which when applied does stay on quite a while, and actually won't wash off - you just have to wait so many days for the pigment to naturally go away depending on how long you applied it in the first place.

I do not know if henna has that much tonal variety however. I think it is rather monochrome, browns to black when you apply a lot.

Latex paint will last, but see the Mythbusters episode where they painted themselves in latex paint to reproduce the Bond Girl myth. It didn't kill them, but Adam felt "weird" and despite his vitals being relatively OK, he was quite glad to be peeled out of the gold latex suit after less than 30 minutes or 15 I think - so consider carefully a test run with this stuff before you make plans about being at a con in this stuff.

I'd much rather recommend you be tattooed (the Iksar man! So what - you could wear business clothes over the tattoo and long sleeve shirts if necessary). You'd be unmarked from neck up still and ankle-down, so that lets you mix with fidgety people well enough.

If you really don't want to commit to the needle, there's the spandex suit, which does show your abs and pecs pretty well - check out Icey's stuff (Icedragon? on FA - bodybuilder and fursuiter and has a lycra suit/character scaly that is adorned).

As Bear Paws said above the real concern once you get into something like liquid latex is that most anything that will really totally seal to your skin has the potential to muck with your body's own cooling and could get dangerous pretty quickly.

Don't have much experience with that kinda thing myself, maybe you could try some thing like non water based inks? I know there's a lot of stuff my mom uses for stamping and such that doesn't come off for days unless you use whatever kind of solvent it comes in, and they come in a lot of brighter colors that you would need for your char.

The premise of a bodypainted "suit" sounds really amazing (not to mention hot #>.>#; ). However, depending on how much coverage you're going for, it might not be worth the time of getting prepared every time - these things take hours, apparently, to do a good full-body job - and you may end up spending more time getting prepared than actually "wearing" it. Then, you need someone else with you who is able and willing to apply the paint, especially in those areas you can't reach. It may be a lot better in the long run to have a concealing costume and paint the small exposed areas; or take up what's been suggested here and go for a form-fitting latex or spandex suit.
