Song of the Week (Week I, inspired by Zeezy)
"First rule of magic: Always be the smartest furry in the room."
After having seen the journals of
vant_talon's brother from another mother
zeezy, I decided to try something similar of my own. So here is Sean Skyhawk's Song of the Week, and the first entry will be a double feature, so double the music, double the fun!
"Shape of My Heart" by Sting off of his 1993 album Ten Summoner's Tales
After other magicians insisted on it, I finally got "Shape of My Heart" on my iPod. I can totally see why this old Sting song is such a favorite within our community; after all, "we deal the cards as a meditation." I like it for its mellow nature and its thematic elements; also, Shawn Farquhar used it in his ACR as shown in the videos below. It so makes me want to sing... maybe this is my heartsong.
Here is basically the act, with a few variations, that won the World Championship and Grand Prix of Close Up Magic in Beijing, China in 2009.
and another with better quality:
"Flutterby" by Philter, available as a free digital download here: http://thephilterlounge.com/music/
I first heard the song from the following video; now, I follow the magic community a lot and this came up under Andrei Jikh's channel. He was using this video as an entry to the Nikon contest "Your Day in 140 Seconds or less". As opposed to "Shape of My Heart," "Flutterby" is a more futuristic, almost dreamlike state. Listening to it evokes the feeling of falling in slow motion and feeling the wind as you travel ever so slowly downward; it's truly exhilirating. So here is the video that got him into the contest:
Also, feel free to explore Andrei's channel --> http://www.youtube.com/user/238662Jikh
Oh, and I also uploaded an image of my totem/talisman; I encourage you to read the description in full because it's quite interesting. Maybe you can find some interpretation I haven't thought of before, like
duphasdan did.
