Well, the rules state that unless you created the SL avatar yourself, you shouldn't post screenshots of them, and even then I think it's limited. I agree with this, because I got very tired of seeing a flood of SL screenshots in my submissions as well as on the front page. It's good to want to show off your character, but it would be better to upload it somewhere else and link from an FA journal, rather than submit it directly into FA.

I agree...but more than that, it's the people who post twenty million images of the same character in different poses from different angles like they're shooting a movie or something. Two or three I can understand...but a gallery stuffed to the brim with pictures of the same character on SL doing basically the same thing with descriptions like "Here you can see her ass....and here you can see her crotch....oh! and here you can see her boobies..." etc, etc, etc.

DIFFERENT characters, that's an entirely different matter in my opinion...I just get tired of seeing the same pose of the same person from five inches to the left of where the previous picture was taken.

I think if you've made anything on Second Life from scratch, you have every right to post images of them, whether it be a skin on your av, eyes, bracelets, or whatever. I think you should compile a set of images into one larger image, and submit it as one piece, not in multiple images. You can fit as many angles you want into one picture, and it won't bother anyone. However, if you haven't made anything (not just recolored, either) on the av, why post someone else's work on an art site? As I said before, it would make more sense to link to it from a personal site.

Yeah like one person on here....I can't remember their name but they have like 6 screeshots in one post. But its mostly the same person in them and then in another one its someone different in the same style.

It's encouraged to do that, so that you can get more views in.

While SL avatars are the most specifically regulated, due to the fact that they happen to be the most plentiful, they're not the only thing that can be considered unfit for FA. A user uploaded some forty pictures of a hideous doll, and it was decided that it was an abuse of storage space and bandwidth. The spam was deleted.

I think one reason why they're so closely regulating SL screenshots is because there isn't as much guarantee that the user in question who may claim they made it ACTUALLY made it...it's harder to track. With someone who draws by hand or on computer, you can compare a work's style and content with other images in their gallery or to someone else's gallery to see if they're telling the truth or not. SL avatars...well...they can be very easily duplicated.

Well, people can have multiple characters and one may be easier to replicate than the other...or they can just say "THIS IS WUT MEH UTHUR CHAR LUK LICK!!"

Sure there used to be copybot, but if you know how intricate most AVs are built, it's a whole feat just to be able to copy them completely.

Aside from that, everyone who's been playing SL for a while will recognise a Luskwood, Lost Furest, Werehouse or whatever big avatar brand name, so trying to pass off their work as your own, will trick about as many people as a traced Terrie Smith picture.

I agree on the 'don't go crazy with the picture uploads from SL' rule, indeed in that fifty pics from the same AV in different angles or poses, gets boring. However, if it's all very different pictures, and not all the same run of the mill av, I don't think people should complain too much. Especially if the AV's in question are one's own work, even with as little personalization as a custom skin on a standard Luskwood AV.

Also, I thought this was going to be a journal bitching about the art theft in SL, now I'm disappointed! Ah well. I wonder why no one complains about that?

*sighs* Because I've found that no one seems to really care at all. Unless you happen to be the artist. I've complained about it already, but all it did for me, was create mass Drama. Bleh...

I've tried to notify people as well, and like you, I find no one seems to care. I think that art theft in Second Life should be taken just as seriously as anywhere else. People are actually making real world money on artists like Zaush, Little Blue Wolf, etc., by shrinking and reselling their artwork.

There's a time and a place for everything. There are lots of options for creating online galleries for your SL avatars. FA just isn't it. Try Flir instead, perhaps.

For the record, the Acceptable Upload policy says:

"Second Life screenshots are only permitted when showcasing an avatar created by or for the user, and will be limited to no more than three (3) submissions per User, per avatar. Purchased Avatars not created by or for the User or modifications of purchased avatars are not permitted. Excess submissions will be removed by Administration."

and

"Spamming is not, and will not, be tolerated on the site. It is considered “spamming” when:

* More than three images with the exact same primary subject (e.g.a fursuit, Second Life character, etc.) are posted. "

Like all my other pets hun I thank you for standing up for your master.

My opinion is simple, there are tons of art forms drawing painting music anything one has to have skill to do is a form of art in a sense. Because of that editing falls into a form of artwork, photo shoping pictures, for example. So how is editing a bought avatar on SL not art, Now please dont get me wrong. Recoloring hair and adding a tattoo here and there is not editing its adding random shit, but if you go in and make the character look like your own, IE Blazger's character, then i would in fact consider that art. Ive never seen any other avatar that looks like his, but hey this is just my opinion.

Now that being said i also think the rule on SL avatar pictures is exactly what we need. Like it has been said too many people just spam a bunch of pictures of the same damn thing from different angles, and its not just sl avatars, but also fursuits sculptures and personal pictures. Ive logged on and seen the front page plastered with pictures of the same person or item over and over again completely flooding the front page. The admin's stand is the correct action to take, but no one should put anyone else down for showing their own form of art. I know Blazger customized his avatar and since i do my own work on SL i know exactly how much time and effort goes into a great custom avi like his.

I say so long as he follows the ToS no one has a right to bitch.

Everyone has a "right" to bitch, but what people dont have is a reason. If you dont like it, dont click it damnit. You have to willingly click on a picture in order to see it and its not like SL screen shots are hard to make out. Dont go into someone page just to flame them, give constructive criticism or stay the hell away.

One of the reasons I don't submit SL pics as much as I used to is cause FA can't seem to make up it's mind about what it's policy is. It essentialy says their ok, but turns right aroudn and says their not....firebirdy does not understand.

As far as the avatar thing? Each is unique wither people like it or not.

Seems like an empty arguement to me. I've seen plenty of submissions from multiple artists on here just showing the same fursuit from different angles as many have suggested, or in a similar vein, the same picture in rough pencil, smoothed out, inked colored and final edit color shot. That's five shots of the exact same image for those short on math skills, and technically it was just edited or altered.
Don't know who's giving you drama, tiggy-licks, but it ain't cool. Too much of that goin' around lately. Way too much. *consoling hugs*
