This journal is somewhat of a serious note. I'm not usually the emotional sort, but it breaks my heart to hear stories about animal abuse. I won't stand for it.
For the past three years FA and FA United have worked with the NJ SPCA as our convention's charity, and we've gone out of our way to to raise money and support their cause. The men and women of the NJ SPCA put their lives on the line to save animals from abuse and put the people who'd harm them behind bars.
I'm not sure how many of you have heard about the story of Patrick (dubbed the "Miracle Dog"). Patrick was abused, beaten, starved and stuffed into a bag, left for dead. The dog fought for life, and carried on when most wouldn't. Thankfully, the pup was rescued. Check the links above. They're heartbreaking, they're hard to watch... yet inspirational and sweet.
Patrick's story was enough to make me cry (I'll admit it). And thankfully, Patrick's story has been heard 'round the world. The recovering pup has received an outpouring of support from fans and donors looking to support the lil' guy. <3
Today, while talking to Sgt. Peterson from the NJ SPCA today, I learned that he was the arresting officer of Patrick's abuser. He's been in-and-out of court on the issue, giving testimony. Hell, in some instances he's been in court fighting animal specific cases of animal abuse for over four years running. We don't like to think about the horrors that befall our four legged friends, but they're very real.
Thanks to Sgt. Peterson (recently promoted at that!) the people who'd bring harm to those animals can be put to justice. It's a thankless act that rarely goes rewarded.
If you're going to FA United, and you see Sgt. Peterson or you attend his panel (where he'll be discussing Patrick's story from the legal perspective) be sure to give him your thanks. Seriously. These people go above and beyond to do something good, something honest and noble.
This man is a hero, and I'm damn proud to have the NJ SPCA stand as FA's charity.
FA+

Also, glad that the guy who did such got caught.
NJ SPCA rules! Definitely donating to them again~ <3

I am actively involved in our rescue shelter here in Illinois. The woman who did this to Patrick was truly sub-human.
I'm glad you pointed this out, it really makes me happy that there's people that protects animals like Patrick.
I'm glad he's doing ok :)
Congratulate the Sgt for me, since I can't attend at all FA United <:3
and another note about animal cruelty thta i find is important. if he is this cruel to animals, then one can only imagine what can happen if he had decided to be cruel to a human. because if you think about it, theres not that much of a gap between being cruel to animals, and being cruel to humans.
the people that do shit like this to animals (ANY kind of abuse from beating, neglect and even sexual abuse) are monsters that should NOT be near any kind of animal.
too bad I don't live in New Jersey or I would adopt that dog.
