I'm slowly catching up on things. I still have work on projects to do and owe several people e-mails. I'm giving myself May to make headway, then I'll finally be opening submissions for the next human/furry fiction anthology book the first of June.

A third volume in the human/furry interaction anthology is planned. Several stories with dramatic romance themes between human and anthro characters were submitted for the second book, but did not make it in due to story limit and book size constraints. It was decided to use romance as a sub theme for the third book.

Submissions will be accepted from June 1st through July 17th, 2011. Decisions on final story line-up are scheduled for early August, with the book aimed for publication in the fall.

Stories can be of a wide range of genres: fantasy, sci-fi, historical, contemporary, etc. Interest is in stories which show interactions between characters, highlighting the differences between their cultures, societies and backgrounds, but also showing their interactions as characters. Submissions are sought with elements of both drama and romance, though slice-of-life and romantic-comedy stories will also be considered. Ratings for the stories can be general interest up to PG-13 or soft R. Stories in the range of 2,000 words to 10,000 words are requested, though shorter and even longer stories will be considered.

At last, the call for submissions! I've been considering writing another story featuring Midori and Darrick building on the relationship begun in "Academy."

Yeah, the submissions have been in a holding pattern while I catch up on things. I'd wanted to open them in March through June, so at least the end date is a couple of weeks longer.

Good luck on the story, I know how it can be trying to write to a deadline.

I have a romantic-themed transformation story I submitted to Bewere the Night and it was not accepted. I suspect the light-hearted, romantic aspect worked against its favor in the more serious werewolf-based anthology. Still, I really enjoy how the story came out and I'd love to see if it would be an excellent match for the third human/furry anthology.

It's called "The Argus Fawn," though I'm thinking of changing the title to something a little more obvious like "Animal Magnetism."

Would you mind taking a look at it to see if it's something you could use in the anthology? I'd be happy to send it to you.

Hey Was1, you want me to take the story I tried to give you last time, and polish it up a bit for re-submission? Mine was the human and werewolf, in a school exercise room. If you want it, I do need to make some changes, because the characters have grown quite a bit, since I wrote that story, originally.

Hi Serath, that story was "Play the Game" correct? I didn't remember the details of the story, but going through my e-mail I found the thread for that submission. It was too adult and erotic for the last anthology, so it would likely be the same for this book. The rating levels for this anthology will be the same, PG-13 to soft R, which isn't a precise limit, I know. A re-write might let it work for the content limit, but I can't say for sure.

I'm still thinking of doing an adult/erotic human/furry anthology, but that won't be until next year at the earliest.

What kind of romance would be accepted?

I'm asking because I wrote a Thursday prompt as per

poetigress's journals, and came up with a 1,700 words short story, which is still sort of unfinished to my tastes. Anyhoo, the main character has been transformed into a mouse, his (love) life is destroyed, he loses hope in humanity, but when a woman comes in the bar and confronts him, he realizes it's because she lost her loved one to the trnasformation virus too, and she's just scared and confused. In then end, she runs off to find her lover and he finishes his beer, his belief in humanity somewhat restored.

Sort of off-screen romance, I'm just wondering if it would be accepted. If not, it doesn't bother me, if so, it would be my first real publication.

And I'll just stop writing before I blather on some more :p

It's not overtly romantic, but it's possible it could fit. If you want to finish it up you can submit it when things open in June. If nothing else, it sounds like it could make a good story for the podcast.

How would you define Soft R? And would you be willing to look at stories that have already been posted on FA?

The rating is similar to what can be shown in movies, where sex can occur, but nothing explicit. It's not a precise, hard limit, but it's a guideline. I am willing to look at stories which have been posted on FA.

I was really excited to clean up a story of mine to meet the soft R guideline so I could submit it, but then I saw the word count range and checked out one of the chapters I wrote. Just that first chapter was over 10,000 words.
I don't imagine you'd have a lot of interest in something that's somewhere in the 200,000-300,000 range XO3

Wow, that's a long novel! Yeah, I'll consider longer works, but really only up to around 20,000 words as I don't want to have a single story overwhelm the rest of the book. If you could edit one or two chapters to be a stand-alone story that could work otherwise I'm sorry that your story is way too long for the book. Keep up the writing though, that's an impressive amount of work.
