before submitting a dish please read our club rules and TOS on the main page
Be they of four legs, two or none.
Be they of fur feather or fin
Scales and shell, big or small
I would like to hear from you of recipies or submissions that enhace the lives of our pets and animal friends. I don't just mean doggy biscuits or treats for the cat although I would like some of those too. I'm also looking for all those wonderful things that we do for both our domestic and wild friends. Culinary enhancement treats for birds, lizards, chickens, local wildbirds, squirels if you have them, native animals, horses, etc even fish.
We had a tiger oscar many years ago who not only played with a pingpong ball but also we would freeze and hide small treats and he would have to take his time to get into them.
So please share with us some of your animal friend treats.

take a favorite dry biscuit and crumb in a food processor
add peanut butter and mix until you get a dough like consistancy
use wax paper to flatten balls of dough into tortilla shapes, I make mine about 1/4 and inch thick
allow them to setup in the fridge for atleast an hour, the crumb moistens and the peanut butter stifens making a nice cookie texture
use a cheese grater to shred red and/or green apple ontop
and top with DOG SAFE chocolate, my dogs prefer melted chocolate, but I've done shredded and chopped before
then just roll em up and give them to pup
Note: I have large dogs so I make my treats taco sized, but when I have my moms chiuahuas over I make mini versions, I suggest doing the same with a small dog that way they get a bite of everything as they eat
flat bread dough (google it hehee)
flax seed meal 1 1/2 cup (most important to be ground up! they cant digest flax seed when its hole and they dont get the nutrients when there hole)
and chicken broth
instead of adding water to the dough i do the chicken broth
i generaly make batchs of 10 and make up to 50 cookies freeze in groups of ten and refrigerate a bag of ten
i make small balls then smoosh flat and bake to desired crispness my dogs like really crunchy cookies so i generally burn them a tiny bit :P i have never paid attention as to what i set the oven at i just contently check them :P
sorry x.x
I take some pasta [anything you have on hand. Most commonly, I use macaroni] and boil it. Cut up some lettuce, carrots, and a few pieces of apple for sweetness and put them together in a bowl. Add some wholesale unroasted, unsalted sunflower seeds to the food dish, place the veggies and fruit on top, and a few pieces of the macaroni as well. It's like a feast to parrots.
Most parrots also are super fond of half a boiled corn cob. c: My bird will literally try to grab at it as I'm approaching the cage. She LOVES corn on the cob. XD
