what happened on my birfday weekend and contest update

Also theres new prizes in the Art contest. Its become apparant that contests on FA are somewhat frowned apon here. I am sorry I really didnt know that as I hold plenty of contests over on DA and no-one has ever really spoken about this to me before. but being called slimy because im running a contest here makes me feel pretty rubbish to be honest. I want everyone who takes part to feel like a winner to some degree or another so even if you dont win first prize theres now a little something for everyone.
I'm holding a contest. partnered up with
we have come up with a plan. you see some of you may recall ages ago that my tablet broke. Well Unka Souffle sent me his. but now I got a new tablet for my birfday his one is superfleeus..suparflous......not required anymore. I offered to send it back to him but he said no, and that I should give it to someone else. So I then suggested making a competition out of it. So basically heres what we need you to do.
Draw a picture/write a story containing mine and unka souffles characters Gem and Souffle. Thats it. When you have drawn it send me a link and i'll put your entry here. Its june 7th now so lets say...July 8th for final entries.
The winner will be the proud owner of a wacom bamboo tablet (drivers can be downloaded online) and I will throw in 3 medium adult sized disposables (at the winners request) plus a heap of random UK stuff like chocolate and sweets and random bits and bobs dependant on whomever wins. (so obviously if a babyfur wins the bow will contain random baby stuff if its a adult fur then obviously it wont LOL)

Everyone who takes part will get a free art request. (so think of it now as an art trade rather than a contest LOL)

So yeah. Me and Unka will decide on the winner together. Thats if theres any particpants at all.

A bit about our characters
Gem is quiet and shy, shes scared of almost everything but by being wiith her Uncle Souffle she gets a little bit braver. She is a baby red squirrel and doesnt have the strength in her tail to hold it up yet. she often has a toy grub with her (see the refs) and often she';; be seen with a pink pacifier in her mouth.
Souffle is a chef and he is also very good at things like self defence and martial arts and has a keen collection of weaponry as he also works in security. He can often be seen padded up. he is fiercely protective of Gem and is really clever. hope that helps a little

I understand. And it does hurt when you intend one thing and it's viewed as another. While you may have intended to just find a creative way to offer a tablet you have no need for and random goodies from the UK or whatever... and your intentions certainly weren't for anything bad... the fact that this contest is involving your personal character and a friend, and this will be a story or artwork for you both does give at least the appearance of a conflict of interest.
I see this on craiglist and the like all the time where companies or bands or whatever will hold contests for someone to design a logo or something. Someone's time and money is worth something, and if you're asking many people to do personal artwork of which only artist will receive something than it can be perceived as a bit exploitative, even if that's the farthest thing from your mind. Intent doesn't mitigate impact. Offering an art trace adn then maybe throwing in something about a random person getting something extra in the first place would have gone a long way, I think.
Intent doesn't mitigate impact. You weren't personally called anything. One person gave the opinion that your -actions- were. This doesn't make you a bad person. You made a mistake. That just makes you human. It's not about you, it's about something you did, and those things are completely different.

See, my intentions were for a laugh, to raise some money for charity and raise a little for myself. I had no intention of mocking anyone's beliefs. And when I was called out on it, I was shocked and upset.. I felt horrible that my actions had unitended consequences and I was a little angry at the messenger. But when I calmed down, I realized that feeling defensive, while understandable wasn't dealing with teh problem. The problem was not that -I was misunderstood-. The problem was that I made a mistake, acted in a manner that was a little skeevy EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT MEAN TO, and -- here's the important part-- that now what mattered was how I handled it.
In my case, I canceled the comission drive. In your case, you clarified your intent, you added the art trade, and I hope you've also looked at how things can appear and have something to think about for next time.
Dear, you are a kind, generous soul who has done lots of free art and been uplifting in major ways. You are a good person. Please don't beat yourself up about this, and by the same token, take a moment to reflect.

Like, okay.. Think of it like... say you were making funny faces with your nose, and then someone points out that you need to wipe your nose because you've got a huge bogey hanging out. You say "Whoops, 'scuse me," wipe your nose, look at how the bogey jarred loose and move on. You don't have to clarify to others or yourself each time that yyou don't always have bogeys hanging from your nose, y'know?
I am thinking of entering a story because I want to get some practice in writing. I may, I may not. I do better when writing or reating in an open contest based an a general theme, rather than a specific person's character's y;know?

A lot of furries are reticent to put anything but furs on FA, apparently there has been some backlash in the past against human artwork on the site, but I think it's fine from time to time. Besides, that animation was just too cute to deny the audience at large. :3
