LONG MESSAGE:
It is not my intention to seem ungrateful or rude...but my back is against the wall and I am pacing the halls at 3am wondering if I will have a job next week.
We are now behind on donations.
I have received a total of $675.00 of our needed $1500.00 for JUNE/JULY and A Total of 5 people have donated all month.
Up front, to Those of you who donated.
Thank you very much.
Still...After having LITERALLY worn off some off my finger prints while working on the game and seeing these low numbers I have to myself ask if everyone here thinks I'm full of shit?
Because if you do think that and are hoping the game will just go on, I can tell you, you are in for a horrible Friday.
:(
I'm going to say right now that while i am rather disappointed but I am sure as hell not defeated.
Very few people donated this month either due to the economy or the issues with Alert Pay.
BTW to anyone still sitting on the fence...DON'T!
I HAVE 1 WEEK TO GET THIS TOGETHER OR I MAY BE FORCED TO WALK AWAY FOR A LONG TIME!
HOW LONG?
DON'T KNOW!
If you have the money to donate and feel that ALERT PAY is just too damn hard to sign up for...that's really fucking weak...
I know some of you may take offense to this but I DON'T CARE it is a weak excuse.
We all had to sign up for pay pal at first. That response is bullshit and don't tell me otherwise. Alert Pay is almost a mirror system to paypal. Don't bullshit me if your lazy or cheap I don't need that! I'll respect you more if your honest but I swear if one more person WHINES "ALERT PAY IS TO HARD!" I am going to FUCKING SCREAM!
I don't need people sending me emails whining about my payment system!
THIS IS WHAT I HAVE!
CCBILL IS TOO$$$ and at times shifty!!!
PAYPAL RAPED MY BUSINESS AND KICKED ME TO THE CURB!
Pay pal ruined me financially for almost 3 years.
WE ARE NEVER GOING TO USE PAY PAL!
If you wait too long It will be too late. I will be forced to leave and find some crap job that has nothing to do with the fandom and you will have only yourselves (those who waited on the fence without understanding that the situation is REAL!) to blame.
As i stated before I do not mean to seem rude but put yourselves in my ! How does this look if your working everyday for months at a time providing a service for free and asking for donations and getting...
well very little.
Last time I was expecting 6 weeks and it turned into almost 3 years where you all thought I was dead.
If you don't want to go through the "hassle" of using alert pay I will have a method of sending cash or money order to help HTH STUDIOS by TOMORROW!
I will say however that I am a bit pissed off by people saying
"I would LOVE to donate...but I'm broke...sorry lol"
That doesn't help me. In fact it makes me mad that people are wasting my time telling me they can't help at all. If you can't donate then why tell me unless your trying to be a smart-ass.
BTW, I don't think it's cute when people do this.
If the fandom wants me around I need your help. Trust me this is not the final business model for HTH but it's what I got for right now.
At this point I am exhausted, angry, and frustrated.
I told you that I would work on this everyday and with the exception of this week I have worked almost every day for close to 5 months for which I have received under $700.00 for my work.
Do the math.
Now, I know that a bunch of self righteous pricks are going to crawl out of the woodwork saying I'm money hungry and greedy and this was stupid and I deserve to be broke.
Well, fuck them, what games have they put out lately!?
My critics are just that...critics. useless windbags that have no real talent so they shit on me and my practices.
As i said i am tired and mad. I need to get my head out of the dark but it is hard when I feel like i am doing this alone (with Tyvara and Fossil but still, very much alone at times.)
I am going to close by saying that I have 1 week to get the money I need to stay afloat.
If you think I am bluffing or some other bullshit just wait one week until my site/game/page/webspace are GONE!
I am not bluffing.
this is serious.
I may not be back for a long time because I will have to go on foot and track down entry level work at say McDonalds or Kinkos.
I can not stress this enough and I do not want to do this...but I may have no choice. I do not want to be out on the street in a month and I am so far running out of options.
Those are LITERALLY my last options.
Either way Good karma and kind word don't pay my bills. I don't want to seem like I am losing my patients or walking away but don't expect me to apologize if the site goes dark come Friday
...I have done my part.
I have been working on this project for close to 10 years and have literally MILLIONS of people who have seen this game. I know that our forums have gone into the four digits in under a month. If ALL of us can't scrape this together and get this back on track we all lose.
I don't want to sound arrogant but think long and hard as to who will pick up my torch should I have to leave. Can you think of one person who will do this 24/7 for you and ask for practically nothing but the means to keep working. I eat ramen noodles and work on top of a box.
IMHO I don't think you will see another project of HTH's quality, size or scope for the next ten years and I HIGHLY doubt it would be free.
Also, I am trying to prove a business model.
"If people like it they will support it."
If this fails then the business model may also be stalled and in my opinion that would be worse than the studio falling.
I am willing to take you guys with me on the journey of building new games designed just for the fur's out there. I love this fandom but if I am unable to keep the lights on that that doesn't help me.
That is the truth of this.
Thank you to all fans and supporters.
Huge thanks again to all of those
who have donated out there.
Regardless of what happens after this week I have never had more fun than these last few months working on the game.
I want to create DECADES worth of games for you guys.
Please help me.

PS: I hope you all take this seriously. I do and I have done so everyday since I started this.
Time to go twisting arms I guess...
That is a very generous sounding offer.
Would you be open to the idea of "investors" indeed of just donations?
Let's just keep simple and just say no "real legal binding investment" - more of "thank you from Crowchild for donating"
A) For so much total/per month - one could maybe perhaps have their own character shown in the game as an extra (sort of like a commission)
B) Some sort of version like A, but shown at special events the game may have or having first grabs at new content before the public (like a VIP status thing)
It would of course mean an extra workload, designing others characters and all but at the same time you could pull off a significant chunk of the donations required.
Just tossing this example out there but lets say $50-75 per character per person could "theoretically" get you the desired amount you need, maybe even higher depending on how many people actually go through with it and depending on how much you actually price, I have no idea, that was just an example. I mean it's not everyday someone would get a chance to get their character to star in a pretty famous flash animation at least for FA even if it's something like in a guest lounge or something.
I.E.
I pay you $100 for and have links to my website and/or FA page in the game for a month.
Furry conventions paying to have their advertising in the game.
FA, Bad Dragon adult toys... ect.
I think no one is biting because there are so many journals like this one that is actually "bad publicity" and ultimately "hurting your stock's Value." Investors don't want to put their money into something that will not grow or where the head of the company says they are close to going out. Same goes for advertisers, they don't want to put up money and have their names associated with the idea that they won't get their money's because of the fear things may go under.
P.S. The word investors can be use just as that or the generous people that actually donate and expect nothing back.
The bulk of our advertisers and investors will ultimately come from the fandom. Mainstream doesn't want to be associated with furry porn at this time. Everyone in the fandom is on shaky ground, some do better than others, but our fandom is a niche market, and basically we're all in this together.
We do have investors (not many, and they prefer to remain anonymous), but their continued investment is based on the response from the fandom. That's why we made this journal. Without people contributing via whatever means available, they won't be as enthusiastic about their investment.
I'd prefer that if you would like to entertain the thought of another join the select group that this be taking to PM to discuss matters
I do agree with what you're saying to an extent so that's why it's not 100%.
The main reason we posted the journal was at the behest of our investors. They don't want to invest in something that has no returns. They want to know that people want to invest Crow's game and product. When and as the fandom buys product or donations, and show some monetary interest in what Crow's doing, they will continue to invest.
The fandom needs to support each other to thrive. Without people getting commissions from artists, buying their artbooks and comics, or purchasing store products, many artists couldn't make ends meet. Crowchild is a game developer and animator. This is where he thrives. So he's using his game as a front for donations, advertisement, store product, etc. Yes, he's doing things slightly different than other artists in the fandom, but he's a different type of artist.
What about partnering with another site? or a loan? Just enough money to make it to the goal, and then work on these VIP statuses for a monthly "donation" from the users. Almost guaranteed to make money from "us" users if we wish to enjoy the whole game. It's also a way of punishing us for not donating and helping a game that is so rare, we don't even know the true meaning of it. Whether you make it to the goal or not Crowchild, just know that your a fucking genius for creating such a masterpiece. All the users out there taking advantage of this (including me) and not donating something have no idea what we're risking. After I get out of the fucked up situation of my own, I swear I'll donate some cash to ya bro.
If you would like to help via your credit card please visit our Cafe Press store and pick something out. If there is something you'd like that we don't have, feel free to make a suggestion in our forum (it's free to join). We'd love to design products you'd like to own.
Do you know what your plans are if this donation drive works? How long can this sustain you? Do you have a list of options how to avoid this situation in the future?
He's always worked on multiple projects because, for him, it prevents burnout and the downtime that results. The only reason that he's posting what he's working on, is because he went over 2 years with no public updates, and that pissed people off. Now he's posting almost everything he does and now people complain because he's too busy.
Commissions take time away from the game and the studio. He either works on commissions or works on the game. The game is his commission for the fandom. No one asked him, he's giving it, because this is what he has, but we need support to stay afloat.
This isn't a donation drive. Support what you love, or it will go away.
Yes we have a long list of options to avoid this situation in the future, but many take time and some take money. It's a Catch22.
I can not promise anything but I do my best to actually donate money and not just post here, but I do hope for his own sake he plans to find ways to become less dependant on donations.
And you're still missing the point. His workload isn't too huge, he takes on multiple projects to keep from burning out. Have you ever had writer's block, or artist's block, or any other sort of creative block that prevents you from finishing something? It's frustrating. In order to avoid those downtimes he works on another project. It's all a part of the HTH Studio's company, and every single thing he learns is applicable to another or multiple projects.
How do you think he can make a water gun game for the girls in HTH? Top Hunter. This allows him to work out the mechanics without having to look at the girls that are giving him problems. He also gets to work in space, something he's wanted to do since he began developing games. And blowing up animated cats holding guns is a stress reliever.
Now apply that to everything he's working on. It's all connected.
We are definitely doing things to get the studio more money, but donations will always be a part of the process -- it always has been. It's never been our plan to rely solely on donations, but at this time, donations and cafe press is what's sporting the studio.
Because I don´t know about you, but to me relying on donations to avoid been thrown on the street means something is being done wrong, no if or but, just wrong
This is down to pay alert, trying to get permission from CC companies.
I'll see what I can pull together and send you guys.
I do wish to help out as much as I can. Cause you were the one who got me into the fandom, I don't want to see you go under again. I wish you the best and hope you make the payment on time. Good Luck!
-Heads to Cafepress now-
Another thing I forgot to mention, since I'm at AC, I mentioned you to the Bad-Dragon crew. If you hear anyone from their department, then I wish you the best with that. Happy to help and spread the word.
List below about the "200 us dollar a week"
To get the following amount of cash you will need the following amount of "new" visits
200 us dollar a week : 10-150 visits depends on the survey how much you get and such
300 us dollar a week : 40-200 visits depends on the survey how much you get and such
400 us dollar a week : 120-300 visits depends on the survey how much you get and such
500 us dollar a week : 300-600 visits depends on the survey how much you get and such
(the surveys usually gives a bit less money per survey made on your site....... but at least it is a bit of money.... these surveys usually takes 5 min to complete so don't make people take it more then once.... or maybe more then once each month or quarter of a year).
The studio is located in our apartment. Studio rent is our apartment rent.
If you can't make the payments, take the site down. Don't even think about paying for hosting before basic life expenses and such. Make sure everyone knows that the downtime is temporary and take commissions in the meantime. You'd want to remain very active on FA, because last time you basically vanished and much of the fandom assumed you wouldn't be coming back.
I'd also recommend going back to posting the update status of your various games to your FA page again. About a month ago or so you were constantly posting new sprites, journals about updates, etc, and the fan support was very good. But then you stopped with those update notifications, and in order to find out when the site updated I had to read your shouts and sign up for the forum. To a casual observer, they might think the site hasn't updated at all, and that would discourage donations. I know you've got other update notifications in the works like the black book, but you have a ton of FA followers and I'd still keep them posted.
Anyway, that's just my two cents. I hope you can find a way to get this all worked out somehow, because you do great work and I can tell how much you're putting into it.
Just looking at the frequency of his journals I don't see how he's not keeping people notified or staying active.
The forum is the best place to get information, because people are constantly asking the same questions. We have answered all and so much more on the forum. That's why we direct people to them. In the forum I can respond to people much easier, and frankly, I can field questions faster than Crow can. I type faster, and he can continue to work, while I do what I can with PR. I can't respond to everyone on FA because I don't have access to all his account dealings, so all I can do is jump in from my account and do what I can. In the forums, I'm a mod and can help out much more.
He vanished for multiple reasons, but one of the big ones was the trolls. He didn't know how best to deal with them. He does now. Neither one of us want to leave the fandom -- ever. We love it here. This is where we feel we belong. But if he has to put the game on hold to find other work in this economy, it will take much longer to get the game updated. Years instead of months or weeks.
The jobs we had before this was one of those jobs that took us away from everything constantly. It payed the bills, but the workload and travel made working on the game an occasional thing. Since we were terminated last November, we've been able to devote much more time to the studio.
It's not a big deal, but I think a short "hey we've added some new stuff to HTH2" journal when there's updates would help keep the community active.
And quite frankly, I think that your games are above the curve in quality, and that it truly is one of a kind for a business model when combined with that quality. I hope the best for you.
And to all those people dissin the game cause "its not done yet..." or"there is too many incomplete things..." Its a freaking Work In Progress guys, its a growing expanding game. Would you rather he make 2 or three little scenes that are highly detailed and interactive and shit... and leave it at that? Id rather wait around, watch the game explode with content, and become something pretty freakin sweet than just have another 2 minute flash loop.
Again, Good luck Crow, at getting donations and getting back on your feet again. You've definitely earned it.
We never wanted to go invisible from the fandom. Crow didn't know how do deal with the trolls on top of the computer crashes and work problems. That's not the case anymore.
Things have changed over the year of silence. I would think that these regular updates would prove that.
Crow made some mistakes when this began, but we've learned from them and do not wish to repeat those mistakes. What Crow's doing is fairly new and untried, so we're bound to make errors since we don't have a successful model to go off of. The only way to continue with what we're doing is to try new things and see what works.
Everyone who asked for a refund was repayed. We have all of the addresses of people who prepayed. There are lots of people who insist they prepayed, but can not or will not give us a valid address to corroborate their claims. We can only do so much.
I would suspect that with a little tweeking, and offering to fill in ad spaces per customer order, this would be a huge source of revinue.
As for the select VIP rooms, you could have a contest or something and offer 1 room to be given to the person who donate's the most amount in one month, and this contest could take place 12 times a year. I do not see this as being the biggest offering for resources, however it can be done quickly without haveing to please someone enough to buy an offered "billboard" as you said earlier.
As for what exactly is inside of the VIP room, well. You can have something allready pre planned, say a character thats never been seen before, or perhaps a super multi options character. Instead of just a few simple moves, or clicks of the mouse, there are a huge assortment of things that can be done or changed.
And then again, you could offer a much more personal touch, such as offering to create the winners own personal character that he or she wants. I don't know which would be best, but Im highly suspect that option two on this deal would bring in a rather large amount of rescources as well.
If your able to get through this month and make it to the next, I honestly would suggest getting that rio DVD put together and out the door in rightfull fashion. A dvd featering your rio, and other female companions, would probably not only take care of a full years rent, but would also make your lifestyle rather comfortable. And thats if you still intend to sell the DVD for less than $30
The reason we are unable to proceed with the Rio DVD at this time, is because Crow's Mac crashed because of multiple factors. He is currently using my gateway laptop -- which does not have a graphics card -- to update the game. We are currently working with
When we have the new system, the hardware crashes we deal with now will be a thing of the past. Much of the updating delays are due to these crashes, because my laptop has no graphics card, and Crow doesn't want to break my laptop the way he did with his Frankenstein II Mac.
Was any of the DVD saved before the crash, or is the project a scrap and do over?
Much of the problems before were due to the Frankenstein II slowly giving out. Crow grew up with Mac, so he did what he could to keep it running, but it fought him every step of the way.
ever heard of paymo?
it's a service to pay with cell phones.
basically there a few numbers (i thought 4-5 digits) where you need to send an sms to with a code like PAY in it.
(don't ask me the technical stuff i don't know. i just want to help with finding solutions:p)
this could be usefull for smaller donations and for people without a credit card and there is no registration needed for the people that want to donate. (so no bitching about it's hard to use :p)
i don't know if you need to pay to use the service crow but you could check it out.
i hope this was usefull.
Ever think of incorporating advertisements in a non-intrusive and cool way? Like for instance I'd be advertising a video, perhaps movie posters could be scattered around the way they normally would be in commercial areas (this could also go for Rio) and perhaps in addition to a simple link to the material, a trailer for the video could appear in game on a screen or something. Whatcha think?
Just throwing that out there, ads like this have been done quite successfully in popular video games.
Thank you for your consideration.
When we have the new system, the hardware crashes we deal with now will be a thing of the past. Much of the updating delays are due to these crashes, because my laptop has no graphics card, and Crow doesn't want to break my laptop the way he did with his Frankenstein II Mac.
We have every intention of finishing the Rio DVD, we just hit some snags along the way. This is common among animated films, but we will continue to persevere and finish what we started.
Everything we do in High Tail Hall will be used in some way for the Rio DVD. None of the work getting done is in vain. It is all connected.
For a donation driven thing, it certainly does seem to be difficult to actually donate.
Donation mailed today, will presumably arrive tomorrow (tuesday), or day after at most.
You guys really need to find a way to get Credit cards working, making people wait at least a week to move funds from bank to AlertPay is probably discouraging quite a few people from donating. I did it once and it was probably the least intuitive and least user friendly payment system I've used online to date.
Also, as a nitpick, the math is wrong at the top. If you need 1500 total, and have 675, you only need 825, not 925.
Sent you a note, 'cause you rock.
Yeah, we're definitely looking into other methods. It's just a bit harder for an adult site. Lots of people turn us away.
Thank you for considering a donation.
I'll mail you some cash, and possibly some change. Would you all appreciate my change jar? It's likely at least $50.
It's not even a matter of "doing it so the game gets made". You work. That's enough of a reason.
You guys will be in my thoughts [as lame as that sounds] Because prayers and positive thoughts help right?
And to be honest what do you expect from someone who's virtually making an MMO by himself in his basement? World of Warcraft? Rift? Half the people on the internet couldn't make stuff have this good in twice the time!
I can't give money but at least I'm trying to help.
Just wanted to make those points.
On a less negative note, the last few updates have been fantastic, and I thoroughly hope you can continue this and everything else you're working on.
Good luck getting the cash in.
thank you again for your wonderful work ^ ^

Have you though of just making modules for sale on the likes of DLsite? It seems like you might have better success with something like that as opposed to the website model. Take a look at what Galaxy Pink has done in that regard. You can even hire out Japanese localization (translation/voice work) for sale on the Japanese side through Mystery Shop or something like that (again, it's been awhile).
I can possibly donate/loan you some HDDs and a Geforce 8800GT 512mb graphics card if it will help. I'm local (Boulder).
I am just trying to help out with some basic ideas to keep my favorite site from disappearing. Ill make more basic ideas if this catches on.
"WE HAVE : $675.00
WE NEED ANOTHER: $925.00"
That's a ton of cash for one little animated sex scene every month or two. I just don't see people spending there hard earned money for something so little. Other then that I'm a fan but i believe there are some flaw's in your business model. Good luck crow.
