Well, we had a much higher turnout than we anticipated for this lil' contest, and some great results! First off, I'd like to thank everybody who took the time to send in a submission -- every banner, used or not, really does help FA remain open and free for the long term! Honestly though, it was a nice banner. The reason it didn't make it into my favorites, I think, is that to me it didn't convey the message "Donate!" Seeing the button on a site somewhere, I would have no clue what it was about. Of course, that might entice someone to click it out of curiosity..

Anyway, I thought I'd point out a few things. These center around Sonderjen. Sonderjen is a really good artist, there's no denying that. The style and line work are all remarkable, but the content... I think that was an issue in my voting. And it's not because I hate gay people using the word faggot or anything, but I didn't think it'd be wise to giver certain communities ammunition. Plus, if I am a straight male just visiting, being called faggot really isn't going to open my pocketbook. But kudos! Many kudos for Sinderjen... because um.. s/he had balls and talent to place a submission. But kudos for everyone else too.
The protesters for Sonderjen.. *sigh* you know, you'd have more credence if you weren't saying silly things, or flooding. It's already a given that you're HUGE fans... don't be fanatics. No one cares for them.. just like no one cares for fat balding men painted up in an athletic teams colors and being drunk rude. I do, however, posess the ability to distinguish between reality and fantasy.
People who take that kind fantasy into reality need serious help, but keeping fantasy and reality separate does no-one any harm, save the people who can't distinguish the two and get so worked up, as you seem to.
Using the same logic, I could just as easily claim that by liking an anthropomorphic dog in a sexual situation you want to rape a dog. Or is it okay to rape dogs? I don't know. Maybe this logic is flawed after all?
I have serious doubts that people who have an entire gallery full of child porn, lacks real photos or otherwise on their hard drives. Seems like one sick obsession, that you're defending.
Obviously, by your logic, if a person looking at an adult anthropomorphic character raping an underage anthropomorphic character instantly means that the person viewing it wants to rape a child; then seeing an anthropomorphic character having sex at all must also mean the person viewing it wants to rape an animal, since a "furry" is as much a real animal as a "furry cub" is a real child.
Do you get it yet? ...
I'm not really going out of my way to defend anything, I just don't see how you can use one logical reasoning system to say one thing is "sick", then act to obfuscate that same logic when someone applies it to a similar situation that apparently reults in an outcome you are unhappy with.
At the end of the day, anything that happens in someone's imagination and nowhere else harms no-one. Cub porn is just one of many such cases within the furry fandom. Arguably adult rape, tentacle rape, vore and feral/anthro interaction are all grounds for the same argument. Nobody kicks up a fuss about these things, though. They come across a bit, go "ew, nasty" and don't look at it again. Why act so differently for this?
There's nothing wrong with something that is entirely fantasy. Only when some fuck decides to make that fantasy reality does it become wrong. In that sense, "cub" porn or anything "furry" could be "wrong". To some people it is, and the logic is the same: "this looks a bit like it could mean that, therefore it does and that's solid fact" - no matter how misguided or hypocritical.
Personally, I like a lot of fucked up things, cub porn is one of them, but I'd never hurt anyone (least of all a child) in real life. To be honest, I don't like being around children in real life (even when *I* was a child, I didn't). I think that's about as un-paedophile as you can get, really. Having said that, I don't like being around the vast majoroty of people. I'm allergic to stupidity.
But they're just that, art. Is everyone who draws murder or violence (or who even finds it a turn-on) a killer? Are their harddisks filled with photographs of despicable RL crimes?
I sincerely doubt that. Because art offers people an outlet to 'live' out their FANTASIES without anyone actually getting hurt in any way. Including the fictional victims of rape or murder, and including the fictional victims of child molestation/incest.

However, I see a second interpretation, though it might not be as obvious. The image also gives a suggestion that Fender represents a site that entirely runs on donations (what I mean is, without the Admins forking money into it as well) and not very many are willing to support it for whatever reason. It is almost 'begging' for people to donate and that is a problem.
If it's not the cub porn, eventually it'll be the image of "begging" that people bring up. I personally like the image, but I don't think it's advised for use on the site. Too many people all ready misinterpret it, sadly.

Edis draws cub art. It doesn't mean it is the only thing he draws.
Cub art in many cases represents a child being made to do something sexually which they do not want to do or have the ability or mental capacity to say no to. Bondage, in most ADULT cases, is a consentual situation. When it's not, it becomes rape, which is another thing altogether.
NO child should EVER be put in such a situation. EVER.
So, please, don't equate bondage to pedophilia. It's not the same.
My exact reaction to the banner: "That's cute, a bit too stereotypical but that's cute". Then I saw who did it. I shook my head, groaned and put it on the desk, well the computer tower. Because I knew, even though I voted for it third hoping the order you voted in counted for something, this would happen if he won.
Why? Because he draws the cub porn. That is it. Had it been ANY OTHER artist who has NO Cub material in their gallery. NO ONE would have complained, aside from those like Alchera who can see how to equate the banner with begging and apparently Encyclopedia Dramatica already has. Plenty do cute art that can be considered child-like, but don't get flak because they don't do cub art.
Also, if you look at most of the people who draw cub art. They draw themselves as cubs. There is a huge difference IMO between babyfurs and cubfurs who WANT to BE children than pedophiles who WANT to have sex WITH children. And babyfurs and cubfurs being ADULTS who pretend they are children, are going to have ADULT desires and preferences, most are going to like babyfur/cubfur porn or are going to want porn of their character. It isn't a sexual thing for kids, it is a sexual thing for being a kid. However, the ones who prove also being pedophiles, a good zero of the ones I know IRL, who actually want to delve in the desire to be with kids are the ones I don't like. However I highly, highly doubt Edis, and most other cubfurs have any interest at all in human children.
When it comes to cubs, even if the character is themselves a cub, I don't like it. I'm sorry, call me closed-minded or whatever. I just stand firmly by the belief that an artist has the right to express thier own standards. I also don't see why a drawn piece of child porn is excusable as art and fetish when posessing a photograph of a child in a sexual situation is punishable by law. To me, it is the same thing, and should be treated equally, as a crime. But, this is MY opinion. You're free to agree or disagree as you choose.
I still think had someone else drawn it no one would have complained. It would be just like me having done a cute cartoon image, and had it won no one would have commented because I don't do cub porn. But because he does, he got all this bs about the image, and he himself didn't intend for it to be taken this way.
So in my opinion this is more about artist profiling than it is about the image. Say for example Jinksydawg drew it (not that she would, as I don't see crude humor in any of her art). She does very cute cartoons, though usually four leggeds. No one would have piped a word. But her style would have yielded a youngish looking character. People would have clicked her page, gone "oh" and went on with their life. And from what I can see people have ignored Edis' journal where he links to the exact screenshot of the Simpson's character Krusty holding the sign. Should he have thought about it, most likely, but he didn't and I am sure he didn't want this much hype about it.
And like has been said above, people who draw cute cubs tend to draw cute cub-like adults. It is in their style whether they know so or not.
Plus even with all this flames, I have yet to see his banner on the front page, and I am pretty sure this flame ar is why FA has kept it off. So more likely than not, though he won, his image will probably never be used.

The whole babyfur thing was more me talking to EVERYONE here. Because most people seem to have this idea that babyfurs are disgusting perverts who piss and shit in their diapers and jack off to little kids. And that is not who or what babyfurs are. I know several of them, and all of them have no problem whatever with the banner, and they all have no interest in little kids. So I'm trying to defend half of the furry community that is now receiving flak about it and about the fact they have material here on FA too. And people can't seem to drop the idea that because they draw it or look at it, that they must be horny for little Bobby down the street too.
The moment it becomes illegal to create a work of pure fantasy, no matter the content, is the moment where we're all pretty muck fucked. Freedom of thought, freedom of expression, ideally freedom of speech, is an all or nothing affair.
I don't think that pedophilia being prosecuted will bring up something as severe as thought police. You see, pedophilia is not an entirely natural occurrence, and whereas violence does cause harm, I don't disagree with you there, it is a natural impulse of the human mind. Thoughts of violence are a process that helps ease the urge to actually commit those acts. But, then, in the same light, if your boss were found murdered, and you had been drawing pictures of his death, that would be condemnable, same as someone who is a suspected pedophile being found with child porn, real or imaginary, photographic or drawn, in thier possession.
Now, while I am not proposing the idea of locking someone up for thoughts they may have, it is in MY opinion that I would be rather willing to tear off someone's genitals if I ever found out they were sexually attracted to, or toying with sexual thoughts of, my younger sister or any children I might have.
I, as an artist and person, have the right to express my absolute and utter detest for pedophilia, in any form. You have the same right to support it, but that doens't mean I have to accept that.
It's not natural for anything to wish to abuse another and like any other sexual relationship, one person can abuse the other, but that is not to say that is the only thing that can happen, Just as an adult can abuse a child sexually, an adult can abuse another adult the same way.
Admittedly it's easier for someone looking to abuse someone to abuse a child, bt because of the stigma in this society, people who do happen to have these natural feelings for younger individuals are forced to repress those feelings.
To make a point, in Japan the legal age is 12, but you do not see anyone growing up scared for life in japan. In many other countrys the age is even lower, and still not an issue for abuse. In the middle ages, many people got married at age 10 or 12 and I assure you that in a time were it was so important to have children and keep your population up that those marriages were most certainly consummated soon after marriage. That's not to say what age people were having pre-marital sex either.
In some Asian countrys it's normal practice to teach one's children about sex by having sex with them. it's all about culture, it's all about stigma. Christian faisth says it's evil to be gay, but we say no, so who are we to assume children have no sex drive, have no sexuality at all?
They have ultra sounds of fetuses clearly masturbating, our sexuality is programmed into us from before birth. Not to mention the good honest people I know who themselves started sexual relationships with siblings and others alike as children, my spiritual mother had her first sexual encounter at age 4. and made her own choice to become a prostitute on the streets at age 8 (was one up until after collage).
Now that's not to say we should all go out and have these kind of relationships with children in this country IRL, but it is to put in in perspective. And of course this is art we are talking about, all legitimate studies show that there is no tendency to go and make these fantasys real.
But of course this debate has no place in this thread in all honest, as the banner that sparked this up has no such material in it.
I mean, furry discrimination is pretty cute too, but it can't compare to the winning piece here. :B
I feel bad for Edis, he has put so much into this site and people have done so much to spit in the face of all that.
He may draw thins that some people don't like, but that is not the point, did we not already go through this way back during the cub pron debacle? His submission was not even sexually oriented, so why the hell would that even apply anyway?
I love Edis, I think he is one of the better artists out there and I think he is very noble for sticking to what he loves to draw, going outside that box on occasion and not caving in to those who think he is wrong for doing so.
He is always so enthusiastic about FA, and I know he really wants this site to be as goos as it can be, dose it not mean anything that he still puts effort into this site even with ignorant people trying to get him down?
It seems like people might leave FA if his banner is put on the main page, and if you ask me Good riddens!! I think this place would be better without them.
